This article describes a case we experienced in which good postsurgical facial profiles were obtained for a patient with jaw deformities associated with facial asymmetry,by implementing surgical planning with SimPlant OMS.Using this method,we conducted LF1 osteotomy,intraoral vertical ramus osteotomy(IVRO),sagittal split ramus osteotomy(SSRO),mandibular constriction and mandibular border genioplasty.Not only did we obtain a class I occlusal relationship,but the complicated surgery also improved the asymmetry of the frontal view,as well as of the profile view,of the patient.The virtual operation using three-dimensional computed tomography(3D-CT)could be especially useful for the treatment of patients with jaw deformities associated with facial asymmetry. 展开更多

A CNC simulation system based on intemet for operation training of manufacturing facility and manufacturing process simulation is proposed. Firstly, the system framework and a rapid modeling method of CNC machine tool are studied under the virtual environment based on PolyTrans and CAD software. Then, a new method is proposed to enhance and expand the interactive ability of virtual reality modeling language(VRML) by attaining communication among VRML, JavaApplet, JavaScript and Html so as to realize the virtual operation for CNC machine tool. Moreover, the algorithm of material removed simulation based on VRML Z-map is presented. The advantages of this algorithm include less memory requirement and much higher computation. Lastly, the CNC milling machine is taken as an illustrative example for the prototype development in order to validate the feasibility of the proposed approach. 展开更多

This paper presents a novel augmented reality(AR)-based neurosurgical training simulator which provides a very natural way for surgeons to learn neurosurgical skills.Surgical simulation with bimanual haptic interaction is integrated in this work to provide a simulated environment for users to achieve holographic guidance for pre-operative training.To achieve the AR guidance,the simulator should precisely overlay the 3D anatomical information of the hidden target organs in the patients in real surgery.In this regard,the patient-specific anatomy structures are reconstructed from segmented brain magnetic resonance imaging.We propose a registration method for precise mapping of the virtual and real information.In addition,the simulator provides bimanual haptic interaction in a holographic environment to mimic real brain tumor resection.In this study,we conduct AR-based guidance validation and a user study on the developed simulator,which demonstrate the high accuracy of our AR-based neurosurgery simulator,as well as the AR guidance mode’s potential to improve neurosurgery by simplifying the operation,reducing the difficulty of the operation,shortening the operation time,and increasing the precision of the operation. 展开更多
