Thus, the gait simulation of quadrupeds is a requisite step to obtain the stable and energy-efficient gait for the walking machines. In this paper, the definitions of the two gait parameters, phasic difference and duty factor are presented, which can determine the gait of the quadrupeds. Then, several typical gaits of the quadrupeds are analyzed such that the seven standard gaits and corresponding parameters are summarized. Additionally, the variance law of the two parameters, which determine the relationship of gait transition, is analyzed. Furthermore, the quadruped gait derivative spectrum (QGDS) is proposed and the gait definition of the quadrupeds is presented. To minimize the power consumption, the choice criterion of gait, the optimal gait in terms of the motion speed, duty factory, and power consumption for the walking machines, is developed. Last, the continuous variance of the gait is implemented by the simulation of the gait transition from walk to trot, which evaluate the choice criterion and transition of gait.展开更多

While the incidence of gastric cancer(GC)in general has decreased worldwide in recent decades,the incidence of diffuse cancer historically comprising poorly cohesive cells-GC(PCC-GC)and including signet ring cell canc...While the incidence of gastric cancer(GC)in general has decreased worldwide in recent decades,the incidence of diffuse cancer historically comprising poorly cohesive cells-GC(PCC-GC)and including signet ring cell cancer is rising.Literature concerning PCC-GC is scarce and unclear,mostly due to a large variety of historically used definitions and classifications.Compared to other histological subtypes of GC,PCC-GC is nevertheless characterized by a distinct set of epidemiological,histological and clinical features which require a specific diagnostic and therapeutic approach.The aim of this review was to provide an update on the definition,classification and therapeutic strategies of PCC-GC.We focus on the updated histological definition of PCC-GC,along with its implications on future treatment strategies and study design.Also,specific considerations in the diagnostic management are discussed.Finally,the impact of some recent developments in the therapeutic management of GC in general such as the recently validated taxane-based regimens(5-Fluorouracil,leucovorin,oxaliplatin and docetaxel),the use of hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy as well as pressurized intraperitoneal aerosol chemotherapy and targeted therapy have been reviewed in depth for their relative importance for PCC-GC in particular.展开更多
AIM:To develop and validate a case definition of eosinophilic esophagitis(EoE) in the linked Danish health registries.METHODS:For case definition development,we queried the Danish medical registries from 2006-2007 to ...AIM:To develop and validate a case definition of eosinophilic esophagitis(EoE) in the linked Danish health registries.METHODS:For case definition development,we queried the Danish medical registries from 2006-2007 to identify candidate cases of EoE in Northern Denmark.All International Classification of Diseases-10(ICD-10) and prescription codes were obtained,and archived pathology slides were obtained and re-reviewed to determine case status.We used an iterative process to select inclusion/exclusion codes,refine the case definition,and optimize sensitivity and specificity.We then re-queried the registries from 2008-2009 to yield a validation set.The case definition algorithm was applied,and sensitivity and specificity were calculated.RESULTS:Of the 51 and 49 candidate cases identified in both the development and validation sets,21 and 24 had EoE,respectively.Characteristics of EoE cases in the development set [mean age 35 years;76% male;86% dysphagia;103 eosinophils per high-power field(eos/hpf)] were similar to those in the validation set(mean age 42 years;83% male;67% dysphagia;77 eos/hpf).Re-review of archived slides confirmed that the pathology coding for esophageal eosinophilia was correct in greater than 90% of cases.Two registrybased case algorithms based on pathology,ICD-10,and pharmacy codes were successfully generated in the development set,one that was sensitive(90%) and one that was specific(97%).When these algorithms were applied to the validation set,they remained sensitive(88%) and specific(96%).CONCLUSION:Two registry-based definitions,one highly sensitive and one highly specific,were developed and validated for the linked Danish national health databases,making future population-based studies feasible.展开更多
Objectives: We aimed to 1) investigate the prevalence of MS in apparently healthy, non-hypertensive non-diabetic individuals living in Jeddah using the IDF and the NCEP-ATP III criteria to test for agreement in classi...Objectives: We aimed to 1) investigate the prevalence of MS in apparently healthy, non-hypertensive non-diabetic individuals living in Jeddah using the IDF and the NCEP-ATP III criteria to test for agreement in classification, and to determine the characteristics of subjects identified by either definition, and 2) examine the significance of family medical history and life style habits. Methods: 557 apparently healthy individuals aged 18 - 50 y were randomly approached in Jeddah health centres. 412 agreed to participate, while 55 were excluded because they were found to be frankly hypertensive and/or diabetic. Finally, 357 apparently healthy subjects with no hypertension or diabetes were fully studied. Anthropometric and demographic information were collected. Insulin, glucose, and lipid profile were obtained in fasting blood samples. Individuals were identified using the two definitions of metabolic syndrome, and their characteristics were compared statistically to the rest of the population. Results: Of the 233 subjects fulfilling the inclusion criteria, 44 and 39 (18.9% and 16.7%) were identified as having MS by the IDF or ATPIII definitions, respectively. The most common characteristic was central obesity using the IDF definition, and low HDL-cholesterol using the NCEP-ATP III definition. As expected from our exclusion criteria, the least common feature was high blood pressure in both cases. There was no significant difference between subgroups with and without MS with regard to smoking, exercise, and family history of disease. Regression analysis indicated the strongest predictors of MS were: blood glucose, LDL-C/HDL-C ratio and plasma insulin using the NCEP-ATPIII definition, and blood glucose, Waist /Hip ratio and plasma atherogenic index (PAI) using the IDF definition. Conclusions: In the absence of local cut-off thresholds for waist circumference, subjects might escape diagnosis using the IDF definition. The use of waist/Hip ratio, LDL-C: HDL-C, PAI and circulating insulin help with the diagnosis.展开更多

This approach has been applied to the study of nucleic acids recovered from natural microbial assemblages (NMA) by the use of bulk extraction. Six pools of bulk-extractable nucleic acids (BENA) are suggested to be present in a NMA: (pool 1) inactive microbes (abiotic-limited);(pool 2) inactive microbes (abiotic permissive, biotic-limited);(pool 3) dormant microbes (abiotic permissive, biotic-limited, but can become biotic permissive);(pool 4) in situ active microbes (the microbial community);(pool 5) viruses (virocells/virions/cryptic viral genomes);and (pool 6) extracellular nucleic acids including extracellular DNA (eDNA). Definitions for cells, the microbial community (in situ active cells), the rare biosphere, dormant cells (the microbial seed bank), viruses (virocells/virions/cryptic viral genomic), and diversity are presented, together with methodology suggested to allow their study. The word diversity will require at least 4 definitions, each involving a different methodology. These suggested definitions and methodologies should make it possible to make further advances in bulk extraction-based molecular microbial ecology.展开更多
