AIM:To evaluate the efficacy of cola treatment for gastric phytobezoars,including diospyrobezoars.METHODS:A total of 17 patients(range:48 to 78 years) with symptomatic gastric phytobezoars treated with cola and adjuva...AIM:To evaluate the efficacy of cola treatment for gastric phytobezoars,including diospyrobezoars.METHODS:A total of 17 patients(range:48 to 78 years) with symptomatic gastric phytobezoars treated with cola and adjuvant endoscopic therapy were reviewed.Three liters of cola lavage(10 cases) or drink(7 cases) were initially used,and then endoscopic fragmentation was done for the remnant bezoars by using a lithotripsy basket or a polypectomy snare.The overall success of dissolving a gastric phytobezoars with using three liters of cola and the clinical and endoscopic findings were compared retrospectively between four cases of complete dissolution by using only cola and 13 cases of partial dissolution with cola.RESULTS:After 3 L of cola lavage or drinking,a complete dissolution of bezoars was achieved in four patients(23.5%),while 13 cases(76.5%) were only partially dissolved.Phytobezoars(4 of 6 cases) were observed more frequently than diospyrobezoars(0 of 11) in the group that underwent complete dissolution(P = 0.006).Gender,symptom duration,size of bezoar and method of cola administration were not significantly different between the two groups.Twelve of 13 patients with residual bezoars were completely treated with a combination of cola and endoscopic fragmentation.CONCLUSION:The rate of complete dissolution with three liters of cola was 23.5%,but no case of diospyrobezoar was completely dissolved using this method.However,pretreatment with cola may be helpful and facilitate endoscopic fragmentation of gastric phytobezoars.展开更多

Methods The extracts of Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus were prepared with Coca＇s solution, lysis buffer of 2-DE, and Trizol reagent, respectively. Bicinchoninic acid （BCA） assay was used to determine the total protein concentration of the samples. The efficiency of different protein extraction methods were evaluated with 2-DE analysis. Results The concentrations of extracted protein by methods of Coca＇s solution, lysis buffer, and Trizol reagent were 0.63 g/L, 0.90 g/L, and 0.80 g/L, respectively. The 2-DE analysis results showed that some protein spots in low molecular weight （LMW） range could be detected with the Coca＇s solution method. With the lysis buffer of 2-DE method, more protein spots in LMW range could be detected, while the medium molecular weight （MMW） protein spots were absent. Several MMW protein spots （174-178 kD and 133 kD） and more LMW protein spots were detected withTrizol reagent method. Conclusions Among Coca＇s solution, lysis buffer of 2-DE, and Trizol reagent, the concentration of extracted protein of Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus by lysis buffer of 2-DE is the highest. However, most protein components of Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus purified mite bodies can be extracted by Trizol reagent, which may generally reflect the whole profile of Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus allergens.展开更多

Service-Oriented Communication(SOC)is a key research issue to enable media communications using the Service-Oriented Architecture(SOA).Motivated by the necessity to guarantee the service quality of our webbased multim...Service-Oriented Communication(SOC)is a key research issue to enable media communications using the Service-Oriented Architecture(SOA).Motivated by the necessity to guarantee the service quality of our webbased multimedia conferencing system,we present a Comprehensively Context-Aware(CoCA)approach in this paper.One major problem in the existing end-to-end Quality of Service(QoS)management solutions is that they analyse and exploit the relationships between the QoS metrics and corresponding contexts in an isolated manner.In this paper,we propose a novel approach to leveraging such relationships in a comprehensive manner based on Bayesian networks and the fuzzy set theory.This approach includes three phases:1)information feedback and training,2)QoS-to-context mapping,and3)optimal context adaption.We implement the proposed CoCA in the real multimedia conferencing system and compare its performance with the existing bandwidth aware and playback buffer aware schemes.Experimental results show that the proposed CoCA outperforms the competing approaches in improving the average video Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio(PSNR).It also exhibits good performance in preventing the playback buffer starvation.展开更多

We ...This paper revisits the Coca-Cola/Huiyuan case, using quantitative methods. We first estimate the demand system of carbonated soft drinks and juices, using the data of the 4-digit code Chinese soft drink industry. We then define the relevant market by implementing the SSNIP test （a.k.a. the hypothetical monopolist test）. Finally, we evaluate the unilateral effect on the juices market with merger simulation. Our results show that carbonated soft drinks and juicess are in two separate relevant markets. More importantly, there may, be a significant unilateral effect on the juices market based on scenario analysis. 7his result confirms the MOFCOM decision itself, but highlights that competition damage comes more from unilateral efect than from the dubious portfolio effect.展开更多
