A 700-year record (1.0-1.5 a resolution) of the East Asian winter monsoon (EAWM), based on grain-size analysis and AMSI4C dating of Core EC2005 from the inner-shelf mud wedge of the East China Sea (ECS), was compared with the Dongge stalagmite 8180 record during the mid-Holocene. The upper muddy section of Core EC2005 has been formed mainly by suspended sediments derived from the Changjiang (Yangtze) River mouth since 7.3 ka BP. High precipitation and a strengthened EAWM might have played key roles in the high sedimentation rate (1 324-1 986 crn/ka) between 5.9-5.2 ka BP. The EAWM strengthened when the Asian summer monsoon weakened, especially around 5 500 a BE which corresponded to a worldwide cold event. The EAWM during the mid-Holocene shows statistically significant solar periodicities at 62 and 11 a. The 5 500 a BP cold event might be resulted from orbital forcing and changes in solar activity. 展开更多

The Pan-African event is widely distributed in East Antarctica (EA) craton, including both the coastal regions and interior of the EA. From aspects of the shear zones, granites, pegmatites, time of high-grade metamorphism and detrital zircon age peaks of the downflowing sediments from the inland, the Pan-African event in the EA and adjacent areas in the Gondwana reconstruction, like SE Africa, southern India and SW Australia, was described in the paper. The water or fluid available along the shear zones was responsible for retrogression of the earlier, e.g., Grenville age, high-grade outcrops to later Pan-African amphibolite to granulite facies metamorphism. In geochemistry, the granites are generally anorogenic, ocassionally with some gabbros or dolerite dykes, showing sign of bimodal feature. Meanwhile, the event has influenced most isotopic systems, including the U-Pb, Sm-Nd, Rb-Sr and Ar-Ar systems, giving Pan-African apparent ages. Spatially, the Pan-African event is demonstrated from possibly local granitic magmatism, to wider medium-high grade metamorphism, and mostly widespread in resetting for some isotope systems, suggesting the prevailing thermal effect of the event. Before Gondwana formation, local depressions in the EA may have been filled with sediments, implying the initial breakup period of the Rodinia. The later Pan-Gondwana counterrotating cogs shaped the interstitial fold belts between the continent blocks and formed a set of shear zones. The mafic underplating in the Gondwana may be responsible for the typical features of the Pan-African event. The event may be an overwhelmingly extensional and transcurrent tectonics in mechanism and is a possible response of the plate movement surrounding the continent swarms in the non-stable interior of the yet consolidated Gondwana. 展开更多

Pushed by the results of a preceding publication on the possibly Quaternary Jebel Waqf as Suwwan Meteorite Crater, Jordan [5], where an amazing coincidence of Rapid Climate Changes (RCCs) with Rise and Fall of Neolithic and Bronze Age Cultures became evident for the Near/Middle East, this paper deals with the same subject, however, relating to the complete Holocene period in the same area and, additionally, in Central Europe as well. By application of modern climatic data [6] comprising isotope analysis (δ18O, 14C, 10Be), acid and aerosol events, and greenhouse gases (CO2, CH4) Greenland ice cores as well as other astro-/geophysical and geological parameters, an overwhelming coincidence/relation/interdependence of both natural and cultural evidences becomes obvious throughout the last 15,000 years across the Northern Hemisphere. Apart from solar output and other astrophysical processes, most important climate- and Earth-related parameters are Mega-Volcanism (i.e.Santorini Greece: ~3640 yr cal. B. P.), Impact Events (i.e. during Mesolithic: ~9600 yr cal. B. P), rapid oceanic current change (DO-Events), and Plate Tectonics (possibly Atlantis-Event: ~11,500 yr cal. B.P. = Pleistocene/Holocene boundary). The most essential parameter is a significant temperature change related to more or less restricted latitude realms of the Northern Hemisphere. Thus, glacier advance/retreat controls the mobility of peoples (i.e. Nations' Migration, Teutonic Empires) and the access to ore deposits (Au, Ag, Cu, Sn, Zn, Pb, Fe) located in Alpine Mountain Ranges (i.e. End-Neolithic, Early Bronze Age). Myths like the Gilgamesh Epos and John Apocalypse convincingly reveal realistic contents relating to natural hazards like tsunamis, impact and flooding events. They unmisunderstandably make obvious that Myths may provide valuable contributions, especially to Geosciences. Some of the controlling parameters interrelate with others or present a kind of hierarchy: Mega-Volcanism/impact events à ejecta à wildfires, heat storms à cosmic winter, sint winter à stop of photosynthesis à mass extinction environmental pollution à greenhouse effects. Two Opposite Extreme Events in Seasonal Mean Winter Rainfall over East China during the Past Three Decades 被引量:2

In this study,the extremes of winter seasonal mean precipitation have been investigated by using daily precipitation data from 91 stations in East China,the National Centers for Environmental Prediction/the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCEP/NCAR) monthly reanalysis,and sea surface temperature data from the Hadley Centre for 1979-2007.The largest anomalous rainfall amount was observed in regions south of the Yangtze River.In the most recent three decades,extreme events in the seasonal mean winter precipitation occurred in 1985 and 1997.Because it was influenced mainly by a La Ni(n)a event,the precipitation in 1985 showed a deficit following a stronger winter monsoon.The rainfall amount in 1997 was influenced by E1 Ni(n)o and was significantly larger than normal with a weaker winter monsoon.Both the circulation anomalies and wave energy dispersions during the winters of 1985 and 1997 differed significantly.In 1985,the North Atlantic Oscillation anomalously excited the Eurasian-Pacific teleconnection and circumglobal teleconnection phenomena.Consequently,Rossby wave energy propagated along the north and south branches of the westerlies,strengthening the East Asian trough along with a stronger winter monsoon,which facilitated the wintertime dry extreme in East China.In 1997,however,Rossby wave energy propagated from low latitudes northeastward into the southern part of China,resulting in a weaker winter monsoon and the wettest winter.The results of this study will be helpful for future monitoring and prediction of extreme winter rainfall events in East China. 展开更多

The inner shelf mud wedge(ISMW)located in the East China Sea(ECS)is the fine-grained sedimentary area with high sedimentation rate and has provided an ideal study area for understanding the East Asian Summer Monsoon(EASM)evolution during the Holocene.In this paper,we presented the high-resolution geochemical data of the sediments from the core MD06-3040 in the ISMW of the ECS determined by X-ray fluorescence core scanning(XRF-CS)analysis,a high-resolution,continuous,and multielement method.Geochemical and factor analysis results reveal that the variations of elemental compositions(Al,Si,K,Ti,Fe),the elemental ratios of Al/Zr,Ca/Ti and Rb/Sr,and the factor scores(F1 are correlated with the changes of the EASM during the period of 6000–1300 cal yr BP.The higher values of geochemical compositions indicating the terrigenous inputs implied the intensification of anthropogenic activities after 1300 cal yr BP.Meanwhile,the significant decrease of most geochemical compositions and the F1 factor scores during 4500–3500 cal yr BP and 1700–1500 cal yr BP,within the dating errors,coincided with the weak EASM events(presumably drought and cold events).The spectral analysis results of K concentrations,Al/Zr ratios and F1 factor scores show the millennial and centennial climatic fluctuations,which are consistent with other marine sedimentary records in the adjacent areas.All the findings show that the geochemical compositions of sediments from core MD06-3040 are influenced by the EASM evolution,the variable El Niño/Southern Oscillation(ENSO)and the local oceanic thermohaline circulation(e.g.,Kuroshio Current).These results are greatly helpful in uncovering the forcing mechanism of the monsoonal climate in the east China over the Holocene and also contribute to the understanding of EASM variability. 展开更多

Anomalous Midsummer Rainfall in Yangtze River-Huaihe River Valleys and Its Association with the East Asia Westerly Jet 被引量:22

In this study, the interannual and interdecadal relationship between midsummer Yangtze River-Huaihe River valley (YHRV) rainfall and the position of the East Asia westerly jet (EAWJ) were investigated. The midsummer YHRV rainfall was found to significantly increase after the 1980s. Moreover, the location of the EAWJ was found abnormally south of the climatic mean during 1980–2008 (ID2) compared to 1951–1979 (ID1). During ID2, associated with the southward movement of the EAWJ, an anomalous upper-level conver-gence occurred over middle-high latitudes (35° –55° N) and divergence occurred over lower latitudes (~30°N) of East Asia. Correspondingly, anomalous descending and ascending motion was observed in middle-high and lower latitudes along 90°–130° E, respectively, favoring more precipitation over YHRV. On an interan-nual time scale, the EAWJ and YHRV rainfall exhibited similar relationships during the two periods. When the EAWJ was centered abnormally southward, rainfall over YHRV tended to increase. However, EAWJ-related circulations were significantly different during the two periods. During ID1, the circulation of the southward-moving EAWJ exhibited alternating positive–negative–positive distributions from low to middle– high latitudes along the East Asian coast; the most significant anomaly appeared west of the Okhotsk Sea. However, during ID2 the EAWJ was more closely correlated with the tropical and subtropical circulations. Significant differences between ID1 and ID2 were also recorded sea surface temperatures (SSTs). During ID1, the EAWJ was influenced by the extratropical SST over the northern Pacific; however, the EAWJ was more significantly affected by the SST of the tropical western Pacific during ID2. 展开更多

Asian monsoon have multiple forms of variations such as seasonal variation, intra-seasonal variation, interannual variation, etc. The interannual variations have not only yearly variations but also variations among several years. In general, the yearly variations are described with winter temperature and summer precipitation, and the variations among several years are reflected by circulation of ENSO events. In this study, at first, we analyze the relationship between land cover and interannual monsoon variations represented by precipitation changes using Singular Value Decomposition method based on the time series precipitation data and 8km NOAA AVHRR NDVI data covering 1982 to 1993 in east Asia. Furthermore, after confirmation and reclassification of ENSO events which are recognized as the strong signal of several year monsoon variation, using the same time series NDVI data during 1982 to 1993 in east Asia, we make a Principle Component Analysis and analyzed the correlation of the 7th component eigenvectors and Southern Oscillation Index (SOI) that indicates the characteristic of ENSO events, and summed up the temporal-spatial distribution features of east Asian land cover’s inter-annual variations that are being driven by changes of ENSO events. 展开更多

We describe the last glaciation climatic history Marine Isotope Stage(MIS, 2-4) from 66.7 ka to 14.5 ka in Hexigten, northeast Inner Mongolia, North China. The climate of the region experienced frequent and significant fluctuations between dry-cold and less dry-cold during the late MIS4. The climate was generally warm and humid during early MIS3(MIS3 c) and late MIS3(MIS3 a), whereas it was cold and dry in middle MIS3(MIS3 b) and during MIS2. In this study, the cold and dry conditions were correlated with a stronger East Asian winter monsoon and strong dune activity; whereas, warm and humid conditions were related to a stronger East Asian summer monsoon(EASM) and weak dune activity. This study establishes six distinct dry and cold intervals during the last glacial period(66.7-14.5 ka) based on optically stimulated luminescence data, multi-proxies record(magnetic susceptibility, grain size analysis, Rb/Sr, SiO2/TiO2) and chemical index of alteration(CIA). The last glacial period may be correlated with Heinrich events 1 to 6 which were further confirmed by comparison with the Hulu cave stalagmites and Greenland ice core records. It is concluded that the study area was substantially affected by the EASM, as compared with the loess-desert transition zone of the Chinese Loess Plateau, especially in MIS3 c and suggested that the East Asian monsoon played a pivotal role in the last glacial period climate and dune activity. 展开更多

Based on the National Centers for Environmental Prediction and National Center for Atmospheric Research(NCEP/NCAR) daily reanalysis data and the upper-level objective analysis data provided by the Meteorological Information Comprehensive Analysis and Process System(MICAPS),the feature of the spatio-temporal variation of the East Asian jet stream(EAJS) in persistent snowstorm and freezing rain processes over southern China in January 2008 have been investigated.Each of the storm events was closely linked with the extraordinarily abnormal variations of East Asian subtropical jet(EASJ) and East Asian polar front jet(EAPJ) at that time.The stronger EASJ with abnormally northward position of the jet axis corresponded to the more intense storm event with broader ranges and longer duration time.The heavy freezing-rain-and-snow event occurred over the region where a strong southerly wind of EASJ prevailed.Meanwhile,the westerly and northerly winds of the EAPJ were significantly intensified,which were also closely related to the beginning,enhancement,and ending of the heavy snowfall.The meridional component of the EAPJ was dominated by the northerly wind during the snowstorm.Thus,the intensification of the snowstorm was attributed to both the strengthening of the meridional wind of EAPJ and the southerly wind of EASJ.Further analysis indicated that wind speed and the zonal wind of the two jets exhibited precursory signals about half a month prior to this extreme event,and the precursory signals were found in the meridional components of the two jets about 20 days preceding the event.The sudden weakening of the meridional component of EASJ and the zonal component of EAPJ signified the ending of this persistent snowstorm. 展开更多

In order to obtain diagnostic data with physical meaning,the acquired raw data must be processed through a series of physical formulas or processing algorithms.Some diagnostic data are acquired and processed by the diagnostic systems themselves.The data processing programs are specific and usually run manually,and the processed results of the analytical data are stored in their local disk,which is unshared and unsafe.Thus,it is necessary to integrate all the specific process programs and build an automatic and unified data analysis system with shareable data storage.This paper introduces the design and implementation of the online analysis system.Based on the MDSplus event mechanism,this system deploys synchronous operations for different processing programs.According to the computational complexity and real-time requirements,combined with the programmability of parallel algorithms and hardware costs,the OpenMP parallel processing technology is applied to the EAST analysis system,and significantly enhances the processing efficiency. 展开更多

The "Old Red Sand" is widely distributed along the coast of Fujian Province, China. Most studies have been carried out from as- pects of the origin, age and laterization of the "Old Red Sand", but this paper focused on reconstructing the history of the Asian Winter Monsoon change. On the basis of granulometric analysis of high-resohition samples, we have obtained environmental sen- sitive grain size component (ESGSC) from the Qingfeng (QF) profile by using the grain size-standard deviation method, which proves that the selected ESGSC is an important climate proxy. The mean grain size of this ESGSC could be used to reconstruct the East Asian Winter Monsoon (EAWM) intensity. As such, the history of the EAWM change since 44.0 ka reconstructed here reveals three main phases based on chronology dates of previous researches: (1) 44.0-25.5 ka B.P., the EAWM is relatively weak but increases gradually with fluctuations; (2) 25.5-15.5 ka B.P., relatively strong with high frequency fluctuations; (3) 15.5-7.1 ka B.P., with a weaker winter monsoon, but during 11-10 ka B.P. is remarkably enhanced. The EAWM recorded by mean grain size of the two neighboring sections have a better repeatability, so the millennial scales oscillation should be a reliable signal of the EAWM intensity. The climate recorded by ESGSC of the QF "Old Red Sand" compared to 6-80 of Huhi Cave stalagmites and Greenland GISP2 ice cores shows a good consistency, especially in detail, the YD event and four Heinrich events are all recorded, but the signal of D-O cycles was relatively weak. 展开更多

From characteristics of the shear zones, granites, pegmatites, feature and time of high grade metamorphism and detrital zircon ages peaks of the downflowing sediments from the plateau, the Pan-African event in the East Antarctica and adjacent areas in the Gondwana reconstruction, like SE Africa, southern India and SW Australia, wasdistributed as special zones or areas in many localities, including both the coastal regions and interior of the East Antarctica. In geochemistry, the granites are generally anorogenic, ocassionally with some gabbros or dolerite dykes, showing sign of bi-modal feature. The water or fluid available along the shear zones were responsible for retrogression of the earlier, e.g., Grenville age, high grade outcrops to later Pan-African amphibolite facies metamorphism. Meanwhile, the Pan-African event has influenced most isotopic systems, including the U-Pb, Sm-Nd, Rb-Sr and Ar-Ar systems, giving younger apparent ages. Manifestation of the Pan-African event is distributed from possibly locally granitic magmatism, to wider medium-high grade metamorphism, and mostly widespread in resetting for some isotope systems, suggesting the prevailing thermal effect.Before Gondwana formation, local depressions in the East Antarctica could be filled with sediments, implying the initial breakup period of the Rodinia. The later Pan-Gondwana counterrotating cogs shaped the interstitial fold belts between continent blocks and formed a set of shear zones. The mafic underplating in the Gondwana may be responsible for the widespread granites, pegmatites and more or less isotopic resetting due to strong thermal effect from the deep. That is, the Pan-African event is a possible response of the plate movement surrounding the continent swarms in the non-stable interior of theyet consolidated Gondwana.The Pan-African event may be an overwhelmingly extensional and transcurrent tectonics in mechanism. 展开更多

In this paper we reported the 40 Ar 39 Ar dating results of hornblendes in Grt Pl bearing amphibolite from the Larsemann Hills, East Antarctica. Their apparent ages respectively are 1586 Ma, 1011 1080 Ma, 761 Ma, 529 582 Ma. Their plateau ages of 1036 Ma and 554 Ma as well as an Ar Ar isochron age of 1010 Ma have also been obtained respectively. These isotopic dating results for the first time by the Ar Ar method for hornblendes completely record almost all the structural metamorphic thermal events that this region experienced, and provide an answer to the controversial question on the structural metamorphic thermal events of this region in recent several years, namely, which one is more important, the late Proterozoic 1000 Ma event (Grenvillian) or the early Palaeozoic 500 Ma event ( Pan African), as well as whether the former exists or not. The 40 Ar 39 Ar dating results of hornblendes show that the Larsemann Hills experienced a complicated poly metamorphic evolutionary history, and their protoliths were probably formed in early to mid Proterozoic. The late Proterozoic 1000 Ma event (Grenvillian) has been confirmed to be a predominant tectonothermal event whilst the early Palaeozoic 500 Ma event (Pan African) has been confirmed just to be the last strong tectonothermal event in this region. 展开更多

1750—2020年中国东北地区极端洪涝事件重建及驱动机制分析

全球变暖背景下区域极端气候事件的发生规律与归因是气候变化研究的重点领域。利用历史文献记载和现代降水数据识别了公元1750—2020年中国东北地区发生概率10%的极端洪涝事件,并分析了其发生特征及驱动机制。结果表明:(1)1750—2020年... 全球变暖背景下区域极端气候事件的发生规律与归因是气候变化研究的重点领域。利用历史文献记载和现代降水数据识别了公元1750—2020年中国东北地区发生概率10%的极端洪涝事件,并分析了其发生特征及驱动机制。结果表明:(1)1750—2020年共识别出东北极端洪涝事件29年(次),显示出波动变化的特征,1871—1930年是过去270年间东北极端洪涝发生频率最高的时段;(2)中国和东北地区的增温显著增大了东北极端洪涝的发生频率;(3)多百年尺度上东亚夏季风强度变化引起的季风雨带异常是导致东北极端洪涝事件发生的主要原因。在东亚夏季风偏强、雨带位置偏北的时段,极端洪涝事件的发生概率会显著上升;(4)在多百年尺度上,印太暖池和热带中、东太平洋海温异常通过影响东亚夏季风的位置和水汽输送,引发东北极端洪涝事件的发生。其中,La Niña事件发生时的水汽输送正异常对于极端洪涝的发生至关重要,也是东北极端洪涝事件可靠的预报因子。 展开更多

南极大陆是世界上最古老的大陆之一,是冈瓦纳大陆的重要组成。第一次南极科学考察以来,中国地质科学院一直参加南极研究。目前为止,已有33人次参加了14次南极考察,其中2人进入南极内陆格罗夫山考察。经过几代科学家20多年的努力,... 南极大陆是世界上最古老的大陆之一,是冈瓦纳大陆的重要组成。第一次南极科学考察以来,中国地质科学院一直参加南极研究。目前为止,已有33人次参加了14次南极考察,其中2人进入南极内陆格罗夫山考察。经过几代科学家20多年的努力,取得了一系列成果。传统观点认为,东南极大陆是由太古宙陆核与围绕陆核的元古宙活动带组成,东冈瓦纳大陆在晚元古代格林威尔事件后完成统一大陆的构建。上世纪90年代初,在原属于环东南极格林维尔活动带的不同部位识别出一系列晚新元古一早古生代的泛非期(约500Ma)构造热事件,对传统的东南极大陆模式提出了挑战。其中,普里兹湾地区泛非构造热事件在最近几年的研究中被中国科学家证明向南延伸到南极内陆的格罗夫山一带,在东南极大陆内部形成了一条泛非期构造带。然而,普里兹带的构造属性一直受到研究者的争论。人们关注的焦点是这条泛非期普里兹构造带到底是一条陆内变形带?还是板块碰撞带?因为这个问题直接关系到东南极大陆的结构与形成时代,更关系到东冈瓦纳大陆形成演化过程的重建。2007年,“南极普里兹带1:50万地质图编制”与“南极埃默里冰架-格罗夫山综合地质调查与研究”课题组对普里兹带研究取得了重要进展:①完成了我国在南极的第一张中比例尺地质图,为普里兹构造带的研究、为探讨冈瓦纳大陆的重建,奠定了新的基础;②格罗夫山地区首次发现高压麻粒岩,根据石榴子石的化学环带和单斜辉石原始成分的恢复获得峰期变质条件为12.9-15.8kb、810-910℃,减压退变质条件为7.6-10.3kb、700-760℃,具有顺时针演化的P-T轨迹。SHRIMP锆石U-Pb定年揭示高压变质作用发生的时代为545-542Ma。这项成果首次为确认普里兹构造带为碰撞造山带提供了直接的岩石学证据;③普里兹构造带麻粒岩地体变质作用、花岗岩浆侵位构成的热事件经历了ITD+IBC发展轨迹,也是大陆碰撞带的指示标志;④基本上确定了普里兹构造带构造格架与变形序列及演化过程;⑤发现格罗夫山地区大型低角度韧性剪切变形带,变形时代为530-480Ma;⑥格罗夫山地区NE-NNE向延伸的沟谷-纵岭地貌特征是由于晚中生代到新生代区域上蓝伯特裂谷发育过程中形成的。 展开更多
