The result shows that American TV talk show host uses more paralanguage signals than her Chinese counterpart. And American host uses more types of paralanguage signals than her Chinese counterpart. The difference of paralangue use indicates the cultural difference between China and America on the values of equality vs. hierarchy and individualism vs. collectivism. The study is significant in that it helps us to understand the hidden cultural values in TV talk shows and promotes nonverbal communication.展开更多

However, as one of language varieties, China English develops with a lot of translation errors and culture deviations, which makes itself doubtful. As a result, a view comes into being that none errors can be permitted in China English, otherwise China English couldn't exist. Based on data analysis of two class recordings, this study argued that the experienced teacher was able to achieve her purpose by utilizing her cultural capital, while the less experienced teacher was less successful in claiming power and control due to her inadequate cultural capital and inappropriate code choice in the classroom. The study suggest that new teachers be advised on the potency of code selection to facilitate instruction.展开更多
