The traditional assessment system over emphasizes the summative assessment, which used examinations as the main assessment method. Formative assessment focuses on the process assessment during the practice of teaching. It is integrated in the teaching and learning process and cannot be separated as evaluation. The formative assessment aims to confirm the students' potential, develop their ability in study and strengthen the students' confidence and the spirit of cooperation. It is also a method intended to generate feedback on performance to improve and accelerate teaching and learning effectively. Based on some theories, this paper states the importance of the application of formative assessment in college oral English teaching. Educational assessment as an important criterion to measure students' academic achievement has aroused much attention among English teachers and researchers, especially formative assessment due to its feedback in the course of language teaching. This paper conducts an empirical research to investigate the current situation of using formative assessment in College English teaching and its effects on College English teaching via questionnaires and interviews. The subjects of this research are 35 College English teachers and 5 classes of non-English majors in Harbin Engineering University. This paper finds that the use of formative assessment intensifies students' interests and develops their learning autonomy as well. Meanwhile, it provides timely feedback to teachers and modifies teachers' teaching strategies, which makes College English teaching more effective. 展开更多

The task-based approach has been gaining more and more popularity in recent years. Unlike the traditional language teaching approach, which puts much emphasis on the teaching and learning of language forms and skills, it regards the language process as one of learning through doing, emphasizes the central role of meaning in language use and insists that students should learn more effectively if they are fully engaged in a language task. However, due to the lack of an appropriate language environment and limited time for English study, Chinese students may not make as much progress as expected in the unconscious internalization of authentic language by focusing primarily on meaning. In fact the meaning of a language can not be separated from its form. The accurate expression of meaning depends on the proper use of language form. Therefore, in the application of the taskbased approach, we should not neglect the study of language form. This paper analyses the causes for Chinese students' low spoken English proficiency, describes the theoretical foundation and actual practice of the task-based approach, discusses its implications for teaching oral English and makes some proposals for its appropriate application. 展开更多

The effects of forming damage are analyzed,which occur during hot stamping process,on the load-carrying capacity and failure mode of hot stamped beams.A damage-coupled pre-forming constitutive model was proposed,in which the damage during hot stamping process was introduced into the service response.The constitutive model was applied into the three-point bending simulation of a hot stamped beam,and then the influences of forming damage on the load-carrying capacity and cracks propagation were investigated.The results show that the forming damage reduces the maximum load capacity of the hot stamped beam by 7.5%.It also causes the crack to occur earlier and promotes crack to propagate along the radial direction of the punch. 展开更多
