Therefore, earthquak...Because ambient seismic noise provides estimated Green’s function (EGF) between two sites with high accuracy, Rayleigh wave propagation along the path connecting the two sites is well resolved. Therefore, earthquakes which are close to one seismic station can be well located with calibration extracting from EGF. We test two algorithms in locating the 1998 Zhangbei earthquake, one algorithm is waveform-based, and the other is traveltime-based. We first compute EGF between station ZHB (a station about 40 km away from the epicenter) and five IC/IRIS stations. With the waveform-based approach, we calculate 1D synthetic single-force Green’s functions between ZHB and other four stations, and obtain traveltime corrections by correlating synthetic Green’s functions with EGFs in period band of 10–30 s. Then we locate the earthquake by minimizing the differential travel times between observed earthquake waveform and the 1D synthetic earthquake waveforms computed with focal mechanism provided by Global CMT after traveltime correction from EGFs. This waveform-based approach yields a location which error is about 13 km away from the location observed with InSAR. With the traveltime-based approach, we begin with measuring group velocity from EGFs as well as group arrival time on observed earthquake waveforms, and then locate the earthquake by minimizing the difference between observed group arrival time and arrival time measured on EGFs. This traveltime-based approach yields accuracy of 3 km, Therefore it is feasible to achieve GT5 (ground truth location with accuracy 5 km) with ambient seismic noises. The less accuracy of the waveform-based approach was mainly caused by uncertainty of focal mechanism.展开更多

Thus the pseudo-metric between first-order formulae is well defined to develop the study about approximate reasoning in the logic metric space (F, ρ ). Then, three different types of approximate reasoning patterns are proposed, and their equivalence under some condition is proved. Finding truth from a huge dataset has attracted extensive attention, which can maintain the quality of data collected by users and provide users with accurate and efficient data. However, current truth finder algorithms are unsatisfying, because of their low accuracy and complication. This paper proposes a truth finder algorithm based on entity attributes (TFAEA). Based on the iterative computation of source reliability and fact accuracy, TFAEA considers the interactive degree among facts and the degree of dependence among sources, to simplify the typical truth finder algorithms. In order to improve the accuracy of them, TFAEA combines the one-way text similarity and the factual conflict to calculate the mutual support degree among facts. Furthermore, TFAEA utilizes the symmetric saturation of data sources to calculate the degree of dependence among sources. The experimental results show that TFAEA is not only more stable, but also more accurate than the typical truth finder algorithms.展开更多

Methods: A qualitative phenomenological study using semi-structured interviews was conducted at Sultan Qaboos university hospital (SQUH), l to explore the Omani Physicians’ lived experiences with truth disclosure in patients who were diagnosed with cancer. The target population for this study is Omani physicians working in SQUH. The total of four participants was involved in this study. Results: Three essential themes were generated through the analysis of the participants’ descriptions of their perceptions and lived experiences as the following with their subthemes: the first theme is the clinical aspect of the experiences with three subthemes: 1) The ethical aspect and the physician’s attitude;2) The strategy of breaking bad news;3) Training and breaking bad news. The second theme is Cultural diversity with three subthemes: 1) Relatives preference;2) The patient education;3) The hospital setting. The third theme is the emotional aspect of the experiences with five subthemes: 1) Emotional sadness;2) Personal grief;3) Other emotions;4) The positive emotions;5) Control of the emotions. Conclusion: This study recommends: to build up appropriate measures and guidelines on the subject of truth telling and medical ethics, and to provide more training for the health care providers in the context of breaking bad news. In addition to add to the curriculum of medical colleges the basic ethical principles relevant to medical practice. Finally, to establish medical social work departments in SQUH, and other healthcare institutions in Oman.展开更多
Soil salinity is one of the serious environmental problems ravaging the soils of arid and semi-arid region, thereby affecting crop productivity, livestock, increase level of poverty and land degradation. Hyperspectral...Soil salinity is one of the serious environmental problems ravaging the soils of arid and semi-arid region, thereby affecting crop productivity, livestock, increase level of poverty and land degradation. Hyperspectral remote sensing is one of the important techniques to monitor, analyze and estimate the extent and severity of soil salt at regional to local scale. In this study we develop a model for the detection of salt-affected soils in arid and semi-arid regions and in our case it’s Ghannouch, Gabes. We used fourteen spectral indices and six spectral bands extracted from the Hyperion data. Linear Spectral Unmixing technique (LSU) was used in this study to improve the correlation between electrical conductivity and spectral indices and then improve the prediction of soil salinity as well as the reliability of the model. To build the model a multiple linear regression analysis was applied using the best correlated indices. The standard error of the estimate is about 1.57 mS/cm. The results of this study show that hyperion data is accurate and suitable for differentiating between categories of salt affected soils. The generated model can be used for management strategies in the future.展开更多
