This study investigated the health risk of pollution of groundwater for the drinking water supply in Mingshan County, Ya'an City, in Sichuan Province, China, using 46 samples from the years 1991 to 2010. Carcinogenic, non-carcinogenic, and total risks were assessed by the model recommended by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA). Thematic maps of the risks caused by single and multiple factors were generated from inverse distance weighting interpolation (IDW) and the geostatistical analysis functions of ArcGIS. The results show that the carcinogenic risks caused by chemicals in groundwater for drinking water supply are low, within the acceptable interval for risk management. However, non-carcinogenic risks are high and the number of sampling sites with risk values exceeding the standards amounted to 29. Non-carcinogenic risks of Cr6+, nitrate, fluoride, and Fe at sites 43, 46, 50, 64, 67, and 74 were the sources that caused high total health risk. This study reveals the risk level of groundwater quality and orders of treatment of pollutants, and provides a scientific basis for groundwater management in this area.展开更多

The Khao Ya Puk Formation overlies conformably on top of the anhydrite layer of the upper rock salt Maha Sarakham Formation. In turn, it is overlain unconformably by the Phu Khat Formation. The Khao Ya Puk Formation is interpreted to have been deposited by freshwater lake area in arid climate inland subkha in the Late Cretaceous. Lithostatigraphically, Khao Ya Puk Formation can be correlated with the Phu Tok Formation that has been deposited in the Khorat-Ubon basin and Udon-Sakon basin of the Khorat Plateau.展开更多
Background: The world of cancer care is an emotional place, given the severity of the disease being treated, the heavy workload, the suffering of patients, and the high number of deaths. The nursing staff who work the...Background: The world of cancer care is an emotional place, given the severity of the disease being treated, the heavy workload, the suffering of patients, and the high number of deaths. The nursing staff who work there may be exposed to constant stress from these factors. This study aimed to explore the psychological experience of the nursing staff of the Medical Oncology Department of the Yaoundé General Hospital. Methods: We carried out a cross-sectional study, in June 2017, involving the nursing staff of the Medical Oncology Department of the Yaoundé General Hospital. Results: Sixteen out of 18 nurses were interviewed. All had worked in at least one other department prior to Oncology. The number of years of experience in Oncology ranged from less than one year to 13 years. The choice of the Oncology department was involuntary for 100% of the staff;of these, 62% had intentions of changing departments. Twenty-five percent had applied for a change of department, which was unsuccessful. Stress was expressed by 94% of the staff;93% thought that there was a solution to the stress experienced on a daily basis in the Oncology department. The main solutions proposed to manage this stress were: support for the staff, provision of work materials, and staff training. Conclusion: The nursing staff of the Medical Oncology Department of the Yaoundé General Hospital experiences a high level of stress and are in need of solutions.展开更多

R. China, six locations were investigated regarding the impact of poloychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDs) and polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDFs) in contaminated sediments and soils in the Ya-Er Lake area . Total concentrations of PCDDs from 70 to 1.6 ×105 ng/kg dw ,median 7.9×104 ng/kg dw and of PCDFs from 1.8 to 1.8 ×104ng/kg dw ,median 9.2 ×103 ng/kg dw were measured . The internaional toxic equivalents (I-TEQ) varied from 0.14 to 8.1×10 2 ng/kg dw,median 4.1×102 ng/kg dw The PCDDs pattern showed that the concentration of OCDD was significantly higher than that of the low chlorinated congeners . The results indicated that parts of Ya-Er Lake are heavily pollutad by there chiorinated compounds. Comparison of our results with the pattern of sediments showed significant differences . The asults are of special importance bocause the pollution that affected Ya-Er Lake may spread to agricultural land and the Changjiang River.展开更多
