The magnetic entropy change, refrigerant capacity and the type of magnetic phase transition are investigated in detail for LaFe11.4Al1.6Cx with x=0.1, All the LaFe11.4Al1.6Cx (x=0-0.8) compounds have the cubic NaZn13-type structure. The addition of carbon atoms brings about a considerable increase in the lattice parameter. The bulk expansion results in the change of phase transition temperature (Tc), Tc increases from 187K to 269 K with x varying from 0.1 to 0.8, Meanwhile an increase in the lattice parameter can also cause a change of the magnetic ground state from antiferromagnetic to ferromagnetic. Large magnetic entropy change IASI is found over a large temperature range around Tc and the refrigerant capacity is about 322J/kg for LaFe11.4Al1.6C0.1. The magnetic phase transition belongs in weakly first-order one for x=0.1.展开更多

The powder X-ray diffraction revealed that the ingot of La0.8Ce0.2Fe11.4Si1.6 annealed at 1373 K in vacuum for only 5 days could be crystallized in the cubic NaZn13-type structure. The La0.8Ce0.2Fe11.4Si1.6 compound exhibited giant values of the isothermal entropy change ?SM around the Curie temperature TC (about 186 K). And the maximum value ΔS M max is about 78.29 J/(kg·K) under a field change of 0—3 T, which can be calculated by the magnetization iso- therms around TC. Such a large MCE is attributed to the sharp change of magnetization and susceptibility around TC and the first-order magnetic transition of field-induced IEMT above TC.展开更多

The powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) and microstructure observations show that large amount of 1:13 phase begins to appear in the LaFe11.4Si1.6 compound annealed at 1423 K (5 h). In the temperature range from 1423 K to 1523 K, the α-Fe and LaFeSi phases rapidly decrease to form 1:13 phase. The LaFeSi phase is rarely observed by XRD when the as-cast compound is annealed at 1523 K (5 h). With annealing temperature increasing to 1573 K, LaFeSi phase is detected again in LaFe11.4Si1.6 compound. In LaFe11.4Si1.6 compounds annealed at 1523 K (5 h), at 1373 K (2 h)+1523 K (5 h), and 1523 K (7 h)+1373 K (2 h), the impurity phases including small amount of α-Fe and LaFeSi phase reduce in turn. The magnetic measurement shows that LaFe11.4Si1.6 compounds annealed by above three processes keep the first-order of magnetic transition behavior, and Tc are both at about 200 K. But the values of the maximal ASM(T, H) of has large difference, they are 9.94, 12.66, and 13.96 J/(kg.K) under a magnetic field of 0- 2 T, respectively.展开更多
