Landslide is the second largest natural disaster after earthquake. It is of significance to study the evolution laws and failure mechanism of landslides based on its surface 3D deformation information. Based on the rainfall-triggered waste dump instability model test, we studied the failure mechanisms of the waste dump by integrating surface deformation and internal slope stress and proposed novel parameters for identifying landslide stability. We developed a noncontact measurement device, which can obtain millimeter-level 3D deformation data for surface scene in physical model test; Then we developed the similar materials and established a test model for a waste dump. Based on the failure characteristics of slope surface, internal stress of slope body and displacement contours during the whole process, we divided the slope instability process in model test into four stages: rainfall infiltration and surface erosion, shallow sliding, deep sliding, and overall instability. Based on the obtained surface deformation data, we calculated the volume change during slope instability process and compared it with the point displacement on slope surface. The results showed that the volume change can not only reflect the slow-ultra acceleration process of slope failure, but also fully reflect the above four stages and reduce the fluctuations caused by random factors. Finally, this paper proposed two stability identification parameters: the volume change rate above the slip surface and the relative velocity of volume change rate. According to the calculation of these two parameters in model test, they can be used for study the deformation and failure mechanism of slope stability. 展开更多

The formation heterogeneity is considered as one of the major factors limiting the application of foam flooding. In this paper, influences of formation properties, such as permeability, permeability distribution, interlayer, sedimentary rhythm and 3D heterogeneity,on the mobility control capability and oil displacement efficiency of foam flooding, were systematically investigated using 2D homogeneous and 2D/3D heterogeneous models under 120°C and salinity of 20×10~4 mg/L.The flow resistance of foam was promoted as the permeability increased, which thus resulted in a considerable oil recovery behavior. In the scenario of the vertical heterogeneous formations,it was observed that the permeability of the high-permeable layer was crucial to foam mobility control, and the positive rhythm appeared favorable to improve the foam flooding performance. The additional oil recovery increased to about 40%.The interlayer was favorable for the increases in mobility reduction factor and oil recovery of foam flooding when the low permeability ratio was involved. For the 3D heterogeneous formations, foam could efficiently adjust the areal and vertical heterogeneity through mobility control and gravity segregation, and thus enhancing the oil recovery to 11%–14%.The results derived from this work may provide some insight for the field test designs of foam flooding. 展开更多

Magnetic field gradient tensor technique provides abundant data for delicate inversion of subsurface magnetic susceptibility distribution. Large scale magnetic data inversion imaging requires high speed and accuracy for forward modeling. For arbitrarily distributed susceptibility data on an undulated surface, we propose a fast 3D forward modeling method in the wavenumber domain based on(1) the wavenumber-domain expression of the prism combination model and the Gauss–FFT algorithm and(2) cubic spline interpolation. We apply the proposed 3D forward modeling method to synthetic data and use weighting coefficients in the wavenumber domain to improve the modeling for multiple observation surfaces, and also demonstrate the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed method. 展开更多

The design of the cooling system of injection molds directly affects both productivity and the quality of the final part. Using the cooling process CAE system to instruct the mold design, the efficiency and quality of design can be improved greatly. At the same time, it is helpful to confirm the cooling system structure and optimize the process conditions. In this paper, the 3D surface model of mold cavity is used to replace the middle-plane model in the simulation by Boundary Element Method, which break the bottleneck of the application of the injection molding simulation softwares base on the middle-plane model. With the improvements of this paper, a practical and commercial simulation software of injection molding cooling process named as HsCAE3D6.0 is developed. 展开更多

We have proposed a methodology to assess the robustness of underground tunnels against potential failure. This involves developing vulnerability functions for various qualities of rock mass and static loading intensities. To account for these variations,we utilized a Monte Carlo Simulation(MCS)technique coupled with the finite difference code FLAC^(3D),to conduct two thousand seven hundred numerical simulations of a horseshoe tunnel located within a rock mass with different geological strength index system(GSIs)and subjected to different states of static loading. To quantify the severity of damage within the rock mass,we selected one stress-based(brittle shear ratio(BSR))and one strain-based failure criterion(plastic damage index(PDI)).Based on these criteria,we then developed fragility curves.Additionally,we used mathematical approximation techniques to produce vulnerability functions that relate the probabilities of various damage states to loading intensities for different quality classes of blocky rock mass. The results indicated that the fragility curves we obtained could accurately depict the evolution of the inner and outer shell damage around the tunnel. Therefore,we have provided engineers with a tool that can predict levels of damages associated with different failure mechanisms based on variations in rock mass quality and in situ stress state. Our method is a numerically developed,multi-variate approach that can aid engineers in making informed decisions about the robustness of underground tunnels. 展开更多

In this process, the heating system parameters and the material properties have important effects on the achieved hardened surface characteristics. The control of these variables using predictive modeling strategies leads to the desired surface properties without following the fastidious trial and error method. However, when the dimensions of the surface to be treated are larger than the cross section of the laser beam, various laser scanning patterns can be used. Due to their effects on the hardened surface properties, the attributes of the selected scanning patterns become significant variables in the process. This paper presents numerical and experimental investigations of four scanning patterns for laser surface hardening of AISI 4340 steel. The investigations are based on exhaustive modelling and simulation efforts carried out using a 3D finite element thermal analysis and structured experimental study according to Taguchi method. This paper proposes a practical algorithms of plane cutting, stereo clipping and arbitrary cutting for 3D surface model reconstructed from medical images. In plane cutting and stereo clipping algorithms, the 3D model is cut by plane or polyhedron. Lists of edge and vertex in every cut plane are established. From these lists the boundary contours are created and their relationship of embrace is ascertained. The region closed by the contours is triangulated using Delaunay triangulation algorithm. Arbitrary cutting operation creates cutting curve interactively. The cut model still maintains its correct topology structure. With these operations, tissues inside can be observed easily and it can aid doctors to diagnose. The methods can also be used in surgery planning of radiotherapy. 展开更多

Photocatalytic H_(2) evolution from seawater splitting presents a promising approach to tackle the fossil energy crisis and mitigate carbon emission due to the abundant source of seawater and sunlight on the earth. However, the development of efficient photocatalysts for seawater splitting remains a formidable challenge.Herein,a 2D/2D ZnIn_(2)S_(4)/WO_(3)(ZIS/WO_(3))heterojunction nanostructure is fabricated to efficiently separate the photoinduced carriers by steering electron transfer from the conduction band minimum of WO_(3) to the valence band maximum of ZIS via constructing internal electric field.Subsequently, plasmonic Au nanoparticles(NPs)as a novel photosensitizer and a reduction cocatalyst are anchored on ZIS/WO_(3) surface to further enhance the optical absorption of ZIS/WO_(3) heterojunction and accelerate the catalytic conversion. The obtained Au/ZIS/WO_(3) photocatalyst exhibits an outstanding H_(2) evolution rate of 2610.6 or 3566.3μmol g^(-1)h~(-1)from seawater splitting under visible or full-spectrum light irradiation, respectively. These rates represent an impressive increase of approximately 7.3-and 6,6-fold compared to those of ZIS under the illumination of the same light source. The unique 2D/2D structure, internal electric field, and plasmonic metal modification together boost the photocatalytic H_(2) evolution rate of Au/ZIS/WO_(3),making it even comparable to H_(2) evolution from pure water splitting. The present work sheds light on the development of efficient photocatalysts for seawater splitting. 展开更多

Methane gas hydrate related bottom-simulating reflectors(BSRs)are imaged based on the in-line and cross-line multi-channel seismic(MCS)data from the Andaman Forearc Basin. The depth of the BSR depends on pressure and temperature and pore water salinity. With these assumptions, the BSR depth can be used to estimate the geothermal gradient(GTG)based on the availability of in-situ temperature measurements. This calculation is done assuming a 1D conductive model based on available in-situ temperature measurement at site NGHP-01-17 in the study area. However,in the presence of seafloor topography, the conductive temperature field in the subsurface is affected by lateral refraction of heat, which focuses heat in topographic lows and away from topographic highs. The 1D estimate of GTG in the Andaman Forearc Basin has been validated by drilling results from the NGHP-01 expedition.2D analytic modeling to estimate the effects of topography is performed earlier along selected seismic profiles in the study area. The study extended to estimate the effect of topography in 3D using a numerical model. The corrected GTG data allow us to determine GTG values free of topographic effect. The difference between the estimated GTG and values corrected for the 3D topographic effect varies up to~5℃/km.These conclude that the topographic correction is relatively small compared to other uncertainties in the 1D model and that apparent GTG determined with the 1D model captures the major features, although the correction is needed prior to interpreting subtle features of the derived GTG maps. 展开更多

Underground pipeline networks constitute a major component of urban infrastructure, and thus,it is imperative to have an efficient mechanism to manage them. This study introduces a secondary development system to efficiently model underground pipeline networks, using the building information modeling(BIM)-based software Revit. The system comprises separate pipe point and tubulation models.Using a Revit application programming interface(API),the spatial position and attribute data of the pipe points are extracted from a pipeline database, and the corresponding tubulation data are extracted from a tubulation database.Using the Family class in Revit API,the cluster in the self-built library of pipe point is inserted into the spatial location and the attribute data is added;in the same way,all pipeline instances in the pipeline system are created. The extension and localization of the model accelerated the modeling speed. The system was then used in a real construction project. The expansion of the model database and rapid modeling made the application of BIM technology in three-dimensional visualization of underground pipeline networks more convenient.Furthermore,it has applications in pipeline engineering construction and management. 展开更多

Complicated geological structures make it difficult to analyze the stability of rock slopes, such as faults, weak intercalated layers or joint fissures. Based on 3D geological modeling and surface block identifying methods, an integrated methodology framework was proposed and realized to analyze the stability of surface blocks in rock slopes. The surface blocks cut by geological structures, fissures or free faces could be identified subjected to the four principles of closure, completeness, uniqueness and validity. The factor of safety(FOS)of single key block was calculated by the limit equilibrium method. If there were two or more connected blocks, they were defined as a block-group. The FOS of a block-group was computed by the Sarma method. The proposed approach was applied to an actual rock slope of a hydropower project, and some possible instable blocks were demonstrated and analyzed visually. The obtained results on the key blocks or block-groups provide essential information for determining potential instable region of rock slopes and designing effective support scheme in advance. 展开更多

As a substitute for synthetic ammonia under mild condition, electrocatalytic nitrogen reduction reaction(NRR) provides a hopeful approach for the development of ammonia. Nevertheless, the current development of NRR electrocatalysts is far from enough and a systematic research is needed to gain a better improvement. This article presents that 2 D C_(3)N_(4)-NV with a large specific surface area and abundant nitrogen vacancies is prepared by a simple and feasible method, and used as a metal-free catalyst for electrocatalytic NRR. Experiment result and density functional theory(DFT) calculation reveal that nitrogen vacancies in 2 D C_(3)N_(4)-NV can act as an efficient active site for catalytic NRR, which is conducive to capturing and activating N_(2), lowering Gibbs free energy(DG) in reaction and inhibiting hydrogen evolution reaction(HER) at the same time. In addition, the larger specific surface area also makes more active site exposed, which is good for the contact between the electrolyte and the active site, thus enhancing its NRR activity. The electrocatalyst shows an excellent catalytic activity for NRR in 0.1 M HCl, including Faradaic efficiency of 10.96%, NH_(3) yields of 17.85 lg h^(-1) mg_(cat)^(-1)., and good stability(over 20 h). 展开更多

Morphology of hydraulic fracture surface has significant effects on oil and gas flow, proppant migration and fracture closure, which plays an important role in oil and gas fracturing stimulation. In this paper,we analyzed the fracture surface characteristics induced by supercritical carbon dioxide(SC-CO_(2))and water in open-hole and perforation completion conditions under triaxial stresses.A simple calculation method was proposed to quantitatively analyze the fracture surface area and roughness in macro-level based on three-dimensional(3D)scanning data.In micro-level,scanning electron micrograph(SEM)was used to analyze the features of fracture surface. The results showed that the surface area of the induced fracture increases with perforation angle for both SC-CO_(2)and water fracturing, and the surface area of SC-CO_(2)-induced fracture is 6.49%e58.57%larger than that of water-induced fracture. The fractal dimension and surface roughness of water-induced fractures increase with the increase in perforation angle, while those of SC-CO_(2)-induced fractures decrease with the increasing perforation angle.A considerable number of microcracks and particle peeling pits can be observed on SC-CO_(2)-induced fracture surface while there are more flat particle surfaces in water-induced fracture surface through SEM images, indicating that fractures tend to propagate along the boundary of the particle for SC-CO_(2)fracturing while water-induced fractures prefer to cut through particles. These findings are of great significance for analyzing fracture mechanism and evaluating fracturing stimulation performance. 展开更多

In order to accurately simulate strong three-dimensional (3-D) free surface flows and sediment transport, the fully 3- D non-hydrostatic pressure models are developed based on the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations and convection-diffusion equation of sediment concentration with the mixing triangle and quadrilateral grids. The governing equations are discretized with the unstructured finite volume method in order to provide conservation properties of mass and momentum, and flexibility with practical application. It is shown that it is first-order accurate on nonuniform plane two-dimensional (2-D) grids and second-order accurate on uniform plane grids. A third-order approximation of the vertical velocity at the top-layer is applied. In such a way, free surface zero stress boundary condition is satisfied maturely, and very few vertical layers are needed to give an accurate solution even for complex discontinuous flow and short wave simulation. The model is applied to four examples to simulate strong 3-D free surface flows and sediment transport where non-hydrostatic pressures have a considerable effect on the velocity field. The newly developed model is verified against analytical solutions with an excellent agreement. 展开更多

This study aims to investigate the benefcial efects of surface retaining elements (SREs) on the mechanical behaviors of bolted rock and roadway stability. 3D printing (3DP) technology is utilized to create rock analogue prismatic specimens for conducting this investigation. Uniaxial compression tests with acoustic emission (AE) and digital image correlation techniques have been conducted on 3DP specimens bolted with diferent SREs. The results demonstrate that the strength and modulus of elasticity of the bolted specimens show a positive correlation with the area of the SRE;the AE characteristics of the bolted specimens are higher than those of the unbolted specimen, but they decrease with an increase in SRE area, thus further improving the integrity of the bolted specimens. The reinforcement efect of SREs on the surrounding rock of roadways is further analyzed using numerical modelling and feld test. The results provide a better understanding of the role of SREs in rock bolting and the optimization of rock bolting design. Furthermore, they verify the feasibility of 3DP for rock analogues in rock mechanics tests. 展开更多

Underground coal mining inevitably results in land surface subsidence.Acquiring information on land surface subsidence is important in the detection of surface change. However, conventional data acquisition techniques cannot always retrieve information on whole subsidence area. This study focuses on the reconstruction of a digital elevation model(DEM) with terrestrial laser scanning(TLS) point cloud data.Firstly, the methodology of the DEM with terrestrial 3-dimensional laser scanning is introduced. Then,a DEM modeling approach that involves the application of curved non-uniform rational B-splines(NURBS) surface is put forward. Finally, the performance of the DEM modeling approach with different surface inverse methods is demonstrated. The results indicate that the DEM based on the point cloud data and curved NURBS surface can achieve satisfactory accuracy. In addition, the performance of the hyperbolic paraboloid appears to be better than that of the elliptic paraboloid. The reconstructed DEM is continuous and can easily be integrated into other programs.Such features are of great importance in monitoring dynamic ground surface subsidence. 展开更多
