PD patients often feel an increase in anxiety levels daily. While there are medications/exercises to help relieve anxiety, there are limited methods to reduce anxiety without the help of a caretaker. As a result, MEDIC Foundation, a non-profit organization in British Columbia, Canada, is designing an automated system that consists of a wristband and an application which uses vi-bration therapy to help reduce anxiety of PD patients. Literature reviews were conducted to document the project’s needs. Phase I of the project focused on de-veloping a prototype for the application and phase II on developing the wrist-band. The team developed prototypes of a wristband that automatically applies vibration near the median nerve as the heart rate variability (HRV) deviates away from the normal threshold of the user, and an application that displays real-time heart rate variability signals as well as provides for relaxation. The development of the prototype is still in early progress. By creating this automated system, we aim to provide a solution to senior PD patients to relieve anxiety independently. .展开更多

Methods: One hundred fourteen SAD patients completed manualized group CBT. We examined associations between the personality dimensions of NEO Five Factor Index (NEO-FFI) and the subscales of Symptom Checklist-90 Revised (SCL-90-R) in SAD patients after CBT using multiple regression analysis. Results: High levels of conscientiousness at baseline predicted symptom reduction on 4 SCL-90-R scales, including somatization, obsessive-compulsive, anxiety and global severity index in patients with SAD after CBT. And high levels of agreeableness predicted symptom reduction on 2 SCL-90-R scales, including Hostility and Paranoid Ideation. High levels of openness predicted psychoticism. Conclusion: The present study suggested that high levels of three NEO-FFI dimensions (openness, agreeableness, conscientiousness) might predict comorbid psychological symptoms reduction in SAD patients after CBT. For the purpose of improving comorbid psychological symptoms with SAD patients, it might be useful to pay more attention to these dimensions of NEO-FFI at baseline.展开更多

The participants were randomly assigned to the treatment and the control group. Both groups received a pre- and post- test of their Speaking Anxiety (SA), Speaking State Anxiety (SAstate) as well as speaking performance. Those involved in the treatment group also received a treatment with the SARM between the tests. The results showed that, with the effects of Language Achievement (LA) being controlled: (1) the SARM could significantly reduce the SA, SAstate, and increase the total number of words in Communication Units (CUs); and (2) the effects of the SARM did not differ significantly in terms of gender.展开更多

Nowadays, nursing has used the efficacy of music therapy in interventions. The aim of the study was to determine the effect of music, which the patients undergoing a coronary angiography for the first time listened to during the intraoperative period, on the level of anxiety in the patients. The study was conducted experimentally as a pretest/posttest control group design. Data collection form;state-trait anxiety inventory, CDs and CD player were used. Inventories were applied to the patients before the process. The study group (100 patients) listened to music throughout the intervention, whilst the control group (100 patients) listened to no music. At the end of the process, all patients were given the same state anxiety inventory once more. The data was assessed by number, percentage, mean distribution with The paired t-test and t test. It was found that the difference between the mean state anxiety scores obtained before and during the coronary angiography were significantly higher in the study group (4.04 ± 1.15) than the control group (2.01 ± 0.10) (p = 0.000). It was concluded that the music listened to during the coronary angiography process had an impact on the intraoperative anxiety levels of the patients.展开更多

文摘BACKGROUND Vonoprazan(VPZ)-based regimens are an effective first-line therapy for Helicobacter pylori(H.pylori)infection.However,their value as a rescue therapy needs to be explored.AIM To assess a VPZ-based regimen as H.pylori rescue therapy.METHODS This prospective,single-center,clinical trial was conducted between January and August 2022.Patients with a history of H.pylori treatment failure were administered 20 mg VPZ twice daily,750 mg amoxicillin 3 times daily, and 250 mg Saccharomyces boulardii(S.boulardii)twice daily for 14 d(14-d VAS regimen).VPZ and S.boulardii were taken before meals, while amoxicillin was taken after meals.Within 3 d after the end of eradication therapy, all patients were asked to fill in a questionnaire to assess any adverse events they may have experienced. At least 4-6 wk after the end of eradication therapy, eradication success was assessed using a 13C-urea breath test, and factors associated with eradication success were explored.RESULTS Herein,103 patients were assessed, and 68 patients were finally included. All included patients had 1-3 previous eradication failures. The overall eradication rates calculated using intention-to-treat and per-protocol analyses were 92.6%(63/68)and 92.3%(60/65),respectively.The eradication rate did not differ with the number of treatment failures(P=0.433).The rates of clarithromycin, metronidazole, and levofloxacin resistance were 91.3%(21/23),100.0%(23/23),and 60.9%(14/23),respectively.There were no cases of resistance to tetracycline, amoxicillin,or furazolidone. In 60.9%(14/23)patients,the H.pylori isolate was resistant to all 3 antibiotics(clarithromycin, metronidazole, and levofloxacin);however, eradication was achieved in 92.9%(13/14)patients.All patients showed metronidazole resistance, and had an eradication rate of 91.3%(21/23).The eradication rate was higher among patients without anxiety(96.8%)than among patients with anxiety(60.0%,P=0.025).No severe adverse events occurred;most adverse events were mild and disappeared without intervention.Good compliance was seen in 95.6%(65/68)patients.Serological examination showed no significant changes in liver and kidney function.CONCLUSION VAS is a safe and effective rescue therapy, with an acceptable eradication rate(>90%),regardless of the number of prior treatment failures.Anxiety may be associated with eradication failure.
文摘Aim: The present study aimed to examine the predictors of comorbid psychological symptoms in social anxiety disorder (SAD) after cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). For the purpose of improving comorbid psychological symptoms with SAD patients, it might be useful to pay more attention to these dimensions of NEO-FFI at baseline.
文摘Thirty-two Chinese EFL learners took part in a true experiment on the effects of a Speaking Anxiety Reduction Model (SARM) developed from the Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT). The results showed that, with the effects of Language Achievement (LA) being controlled: (1) the SARM could significantly reduce the SA, SAstate, and increase the total number of words in Communication Units (CUs); and (2) the effects of the SARM did not differ significantly in terms of gender.
文摘The sedative effects of music on healthy and sick individuals are known for centuries. It was concluded that the music listened to during the coronary angiography process had an impact on the intraoperative anxiety levels of the patients.
文摘There are over thirty million refugees globally with severe experiences of trauma.Art therapy intervention allows for nonverbal expression and could alleviate mental health symptomatology among refugees. The present review’s aim was to integrate and summarize the previous research which examined the effects of visual arts on alleviating psychological conditions of refugees. However, due to the paucity of studies which solely used visual arts,we included studies that used visual arts alongside other modalities as part of an expressive arts therapy intervention. The present review synthesizes studies that examined the effect of art therapy on mental health issues of refugees from January 2000 to March 2021.Seven studies(child and adolescent sample,N=5 and adult sample,N=2)with a total of 298 refugee participants(n=298)met our inclusion criteria. The participants were from the Middle East and North Africa(MENA),Southeast Asia, and Europe. We found three commonly reported mental health disorders, namely Post Traumatic Stress Disorder(PTSD),anxiety, and Major Depression Disorder. The research highlights how art therapy interventions could be a great starting point to alleviate symptomatology among refu-gees.Four additional benefits of art therapy which were commonly reported across the seven studies emerged from this review:working with traumatic experience/loss,rebuilding social connection and trust, nonverbal com-munication and self-expression of loss and trauma, and retelling stories.Art therapy interventions could be used as a starting point in the healing process of traumatized refugees to encourage verbal articulation of their feelings and reduce mental health symptoms.Despite these promisingfindings, due to a dearth of robust methodologies, further research is required to assess the long-term effectiveness of art therapy.
