Following a study into the choice of the best proportions, a total of 30 size 8/6 composite rafters with different proportions of 20%, 25%, 30%, 35%, 40% and 50% plastic content were developed. All the 8/6 composite rafters were subjected to mechanical (3-point bending strength and Monnin hardness) and physical (bulk density and water absorption) characterization analyses. The results show that flexural strength increases from 27.56 MPa to 33.30 MPa for proportions ranging from 20% to 35% plastic content. Above 35% plastic, the strength drops to 19.60 MPa for a 50% plastic content. Similarly, the Monnin hardness drops from 9 mm to 5 mm when the plastic content varies from 20 to 50%. As for the results of the physical characterisation, the values obtained for apparent density vary from 0.89 to 1 for proportions varying from 20% to 35% plastic content and drop to 0.94 for 50% plastic content. As for water absorption, values drop from 6.82% to 2.45% when the plastic content increases from 20% to 50%. These mechanical strengths stabilise at 35% plastic content. The development of an 8/6 chevron composite material based on plastic and coconut shell could therefore be a way of recovering waste and solving the problem of deforestation.展开更多
To determine the effect of 6 + 8 and 1.5 + 10 HMW-GS of synthetic hexaploid wheat (SHW) on main quality parameters of wheat, a set of recombinant inbred lines (RILs) derived from the cross between a SHW with N,...To determine the effect of 6 + 8 and 1.5 + 10 HMW-GS of synthetic hexaploid wheat (SHW) on main quality parameters of wheat, a set of recombinant inbred lines (RILs) derived from the cross between a SHW with N, 6 + 8, 1.5 + 10 HMW-GS and a cultivar Chuanyu 12-1 (CY 12-1) with 1, 7 + 8, 2 + 12 were planted in three environments in 2005 and 2006 and totally 16 quality parameters were tested for each line. Significant differences in all tested quality parameters but flour yield were observed between the two parents. The mean values of the RILs were intermediate to the parents for grain and protein parameters and some farinograph parameters, flour water absorption (FWA), and farinograph softening (SOF) but beyond parents at dough stability time (DST), breakdown time (BRT), quality number (QN), noodle score (NS), and loaf volume (LOV). All of the quality traits, especially in grain hardness (GH), zeleny sedimentation volume (SED), and most of farinograph parameters had significant difference between the different HMW-GS components. The effects of different alleles of HMW-GS at same locus (Glu-A1 or Glu-B1 or GIu-D1) on the different quality parameters were also different and affected by the other two loci. For most of parameters tested, 6 + 8 was better than 7 + 8 and there was no difference between 1.5 + 10 and 2 + 12. End-use quality was greatly influenced by components of HMW-GS. The components of 1, 6 + 8, 1.5 + 10 had the highest LOV and bread score (BS) values, whereas the components of 1, 7+ 8 and 1.5 + 10 had the highest NS values. Noodle score performed a positive linear relationship with falling number (FN) and its relationships to other quality parameters were affected by environments. Loaf volume had a significant negative relationship to SOF and positive associations with most of quality parameters. It could be concluded that HMW-GS 6+ 8 from SHW had better overall quality characteristics than 7 + 8, whereas the effects of 1.5 + 10 on quality was different in respect to quality parameters and the HMW-GS components. Synthetic hexaploid wheat with subunits 6 + 8 and 1.5 + 10 had the potentials to improve the end-use quality of wheat cultivars.展开更多
BACKGROUND Acute pancreatitis(AP)is an inflammatory disease,which presents with epigastric pain and is clinically diagnosed by amylase and lipase three times the upper limit of normal.The 2012 Atlanta classification s...BACKGROUND Acute pancreatitis(AP)is an inflammatory disease,which presents with epigastric pain and is clinically diagnosed by amylase and lipase three times the upper limit of normal.The 2012 Atlanta classification stratifies the severity of AP as one of three risk categories namely,mild AP(MAP),moderately severe AP(MSAP),and severe AP(SAP).Challenges in stratifying AP upon diagnosis suggest that a better understanding of the underlying complex pathophysiology may be beneficial.AIM To identify the role of the chemokine receptor 8(CCR8),expressed by T-helper type-2 Lymphocytes and peritoneal macrophages,and its possible association to Interleukin(IL)-6 and AP stratification.METHODS This study was a prospective case-control study.A total of 40 patients were recruited from the Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital and the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital.Bioassays were performed on 29 patients(14 MAP,11 MSAP,and 4 SAP)and 6 healthy controls as part of a preliminary study.A total of 12 mL of blood samples were collected at Day(D)1,3,5,and 7 post epigastric pain.Using multiplex immunoassay panels,real-time polymerase chain reaction(qRT-PCR)arrays,and multicolour flow cytometry analysis,immune response-related proteins,genes,and cells were profiled respectively.GraphPad Prism^(TM) software and fold change(FC)analysis was used to determine differences between the groups.P<0.05 was considered significant.RESULTS The concentration of IL-6 was significantly different at D3 post epigastric pain in both the MAP group and MSAP group with P=0.001 and P=0.013 respectively,in a multiplex assay.When a FC of 2 was applied to identify differentially expressed genes using RT2 Profiler,CCR8 was shown to increase steadily with disease severity from MAP(1.33),MSAP(38.28)to SAP(1172.45)median FC.Further verification studies using RT-PCR showed fold change increases of CCR8 in MSAP and SAP ranging from 1000 to 1000000 times when represented as Log10,compared to healthy control respectively at D3.The findings also showed differing lymphocyte and monocyte cell frequency between the groups.With monocyte population frequency as high as 70%in MSAP at D3.CONCLUSION The higher levels of CCR8 and IL-6 in the severe patients and immune cell differences compared to MAP and controls provide an avenue for exploring AP stratification to improve management.展开更多

METHODS: Twenty-eight patients fulfilling the Rome Ⅲ criteria for ...AIM: To investigate mitochondrial ATP 6 and 8 poly-morphisms in the colon and ileum of patients with ir-ritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea (IBS-D). METHODS: Twenty-eight patients fulfilling the Rome Ⅲ criteria for IBS-D and 28 healthy subjects were in-vestigated. All study participants underwent screening colonoscopy and mucosal biopsies were obtained from the colon and/or terminal ileum. Genomic DNA was ex-tracted from specimens based on standard protocols. Mitochondrial ATP (MT-ATP) 6 and 8 genes in speci-mens were polymerase chain reaction amplified and sequenced. Sequencing data were analyzed via Variant Reporter Software and compared with the reference sequence from Genbank (accession No. NC_012920) to indicate possible polymorphisms. The protocol was registered at www.clinicaltrials.gov as NCT01028898. RESULTS: Twenty-five polymorphic sites of MT-ATP 6 and 8 genes were detected and 12 of them were missense mutations. A median of two polymorphic sites in MT-ATP genes was found in colon specimens of controls while a median of three polymorphic sites was noted in patients with IBS-D (Mann-Whitney test, P=0.012). The variants of the colon and ileum speci-mens from the same subjects were identical in all but one case. Symptom duration in IBS was not found to be a significant factor associated with the mtDNA polymorphism (Spearman correlation, P=0.592). The mitochondrial DNA change at 8860 was present in all cases of both groups. The frequency of the 8701 poly-morphism was found to be the second most frequent; however, no statistical difference was noted between the groups (χ2 test, P=0.584). CONCLUSION: Patients with IBS-D have a higher inci-dence of MT-ATP 6 and 8 polymorphisms than healthy subjects, implying that the mtDNA polymorphism may play a role in IBS-D.展开更多

Based on the previous studies and development practice in recent 10 years, a quantitative evaluation method for the adaptability of well patterns to ultra-low permeability reservoirs was established using cluster anal...Based on the previous studies and development practice in recent 10 years, a quantitative evaluation method for the adaptability of well patterns to ultra-low permeability reservoirs was established using cluster analysis and gray correlation method, and it includes 10 evaluation parameters in the four aspects of optimal evaluation parameters, determination of weights for evaluation parameters, development stage division, and determination of classification coefficients. This evaluation method was used to evaluate the well pattern adaptability of 13 main ultra-low permeability reservoirs in Triassic Chang 6 and Chang 8 of Ordos Basin. Three basic understandings were obtained: Firstly, the well pattern for ultra-low permeability type-I reservoirs has generally good adaptability, with proper well pattern forms and well pattern parameters. Secondly, square inverted nine-spot well pattern is suitable for reservoirs with no fractures; rhombic inverted nine-spot injection pattern is suitable for reservoirs with some fractures; and rectangular well pattern is suitable for reservoirs with rich fractures. Thirdly, for the ultra-low permeability type-Ⅱ and type-Ⅲ reservoirs, with the principles of well pattern form determination, the row spacing needs to be optimized further to improve the level of development of such reservoirs.展开更多

Human herpes viruses have probable effects on relapsing-remitting MS pathogenesis presumably through molecular mi...Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a chronic demyelinating disease of the CNS with assumed autoimmune etiology. Human herpes viruses have probable effects on relapsing-remitting MS pathogenesis presumably through molecular mimicry and/or bystander mechanisms. In this study we probed the possible contribution of the two herpes viruses, human herpesvirus 6 (HHV-6) and human herpesvirus 8 (HHV-8), in clinically definite multiple sclerosis (CDMS) pa-tients-relapsing remitting type (RRMS) during clinical exacerbations. All patients had no history of immune modulating or suppressing drugs intake in the last 6 months. The peripheral blood samples, from CDMS patients (n = 20) (13F/7M, age (y) = 30.3 ± 3.21) and other immune mediated neurological disorders (OIND) (11F/9M, age = 25.2 ± 12.1), (My-asthenia Gravis, Guillain Barré Syndrome, ischemic stroke in adolescent and young adult with no clear risk factors), as a control group, had been enrolled within 15 months (January-2007-- March -2008). We investigated the existence of specific deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) sequences belonging to HHV-6 and HHV-8, using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) in the isolated peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and in plasma. PCR demonstrated HHV-6 DNA in 7 cases (35%), HHV-8 sequences in only one cases (5%) in PBMCs from 20 relapsed CDMS patients;all HHV-6 posi-tive cases showed positive plasma results, while the blood samples from 20 OIND patients showed negative results ex-cept one case (5%) out of 9 cases of GBS was positive for HHV-8 in PBMCs. We consequently concluded that there is considerable evidence in this study that proposed the roles of HHV-6 and HHV-8 in MS pathogenesis and clinical ex-acerbation.展开更多

In this study we probed the possible contribution of the two herpes viruses, human herpesvirus 6 (HHV-6) and human herpesvirus 8 (HHV-8), in clinically definite multiple sclerosis (CDMS) pa-tients-relapsing remitting type (RRMS) during clinical exacerbations. All patients had no history of immune modulating or suppressing drugs intake in the last 6 months. The peripheral blood samples, from CDMS patients (n = 20) (13F/7M, age (y) = 30.3 ± 3.21) and other immune mediated neurological disorders (OIND) (11F/9M, age = 25.2 ± 12.1), (My-asthenia Gravis, Guillain Barré Syndrome, ischemic stroke in adolescent and young adult with no clear risk factors), as a control group, had been enrolled within 15 months (January-2007-- March -2008). We investigated the existence of specific deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) sequences belonging to HHV-6 and HHV-8, using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) in the isolated peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and in plasma. PCR demonstrated HHV-6 DNA in 7 cases (35%), HHV-8 sequences in only one cases (5%) in PBMCs from 20 relapsed CDMS patients;all HHV-6 posi-tive cases showed positive plasma results, while the blood samples from 20 OIND patients showed negative results ex-cept one case (5%) out of 9 cases of GBS was positive for HHV-8 in PBMCs. We consequently concluded that there is considerable evidence in this study that proposed the roles of HHV-6 and HHV-8 in MS pathogenesis and clinical ex-acerbation.
