A total of 120 EFL freshman collegestudents from high, intermediate, and basic levels in Taiwan participated in the present study. Using a learning stylepreference checklist, students’ perceptional learning styles were first explored in terms of preferences. 120participants with different levels were classified based on their English scores on College Entrance Exam. With theuse of descriptive statistics and a one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), the results indicated that specificlearning style preference correlated with certain achievement levels of students. Students with differentachievement levels preferred significantly certain style preference to other style comparing to other achievementlevels. It seems that learning styles preferences may not definitely relate to a student’s achievement levels. Certainvariables may also probably affect learning style preferences with respect to English performance.展开更多

Over the past thirty years, emphasis has been placed on achievement levels of students in this country. State test results, SAT Scores, ACT scores and other assessment instruments have been used to determine performance standards and test results for students. Data analyzed for White students compared to African American and Hispanic students have provided critical information in identifying academic progress and skill deficits for all students. This article will highlight some of the achievement gaps which exit among White, African American and Hispanic Students. Recommendations will also be emphasized to help improve student achievement levels in an effort to close the achievement gap.展开更多

Methods: A total of 716 student nurses were enrolled in this study from 7 hospitals in western China. Data were collected using three scales: General Data Scale, Self-Efficacy Scale (SES) and Achievement Motivation Scale (AMS). There were 566 valid questionnaires. Results: The mean general self-efficacy scores of the student nurses were low. There was a significantly positive relationship between self-efficacy and achievement motivation ( r = 0. 432, P = 0. 000). Conclusions: Our findings suggested that self-efficacy was related to age and educational levels, rather than gender and place of residence. Nursing managers should take measures to develop the self-efficacy of student nurses; when self-efficacy is developed, the achievement motivation may then be improved. Achievement motivation may also be improved through the improvement of self-efficacy.展开更多
