In the field of second language acquisition(SLA),weight has been increasingly attached to the role that a problem-pos ing model of education plays in English as second/foreign language(ES/FL)teaching and learning.By exploring various concepts of the problem-posing approach,also known as critical pedagogy,and its implications for English language teaching(ELT)in the Chinese postsecondary EFL context,the paper makes a tentative attempt to acknowledge the future directions of implementing critical pedagogy in the EFL context.Therefore,the paper is inspired by the ever-increasing popularity of the critical pedagogical approach in the ESL context.The application of critical orientation in language education derives from critical theories of the Frankfurt School,which centers on Marxist societal beliefs of struggling against social inequalities.With the concept of critical pedagogy drawing increasing attention from language educators and teachers alike in English-speaking countries;non-native English teachers who teach in the EFL context has also begun to focus their attention on the educational philosophy as a means to help transform traditional oppressed status of the Chinese EFL learners.From this perspective,this paper,by investigating the multi-dimensional implied meanings of implementing critical pedagogy in the EFL context,unraveling how it works as a way of"doing"in second language(L2)teaching and learning,identifying the probable contexts of critical pedagogy and the contesta tions surrounding critical pedagogy,aims to address the significance of implementing critical pedagogy as an effective way of re forming the ailing English education condition in China. 展开更多

外文学术图书,对于高校的教学、科研活动有较高的学术指导价值。对外文学术电子图书进行评价能够全面反映其影响力。本文综合运用Altmetrics和传统的引文评价,利用Bookmetrix工具,明确对不同学科(以化学、社会科学为例)的学术电子图书... 外文学术图书,对于高校的教学、科研活动有较高的学术指导价值。对外文学术电子图书进行评价能够全面反映其影响力。本文综合运用Altmetrics和传统的引文评价,利用Bookmetrix工具,明确对不同学科(以化学、社会科学为例)的学术电子图书进行探索性研究,对文献计量指标(引文)与Altmetrics指标(Mendeley读者数和下载量)的相关性与一致性进行定量分析,并对引文量、读者数、下载量是否有显著性差异进行了非参数检验。研究发现:Citations、Mendeley Readers、Downloads具有较高的覆盖率,经Mann-Whitney非参数检验,化学和社会科学的外文学术电子图书的被引量、读者数没有显著差异,但是二者的下载量有显著差异。化学图书的被引量与Mendeley读者数的相关性明显高于社会科学图书的被引量与Mendeley读者数的相关性。 展开更多

LAA methodology gives students the tools and confidence to internalize the second language for the long term. Through the Language Awareness Approach, students become highly motivated self-learners, expertly analyzing the syntax of their native language as well as that of the second language. As students become more skilled in understanding how language works, they are able to internalize the new language and make it their own. Translational Techniques as a Teaching Tool Using Culture-Specific Units: The Case of French-English Proverbs

Given the fact that cultures are a distinct way of identifying the mores and customs of a people, culture-specific units such as proverbs could serve as veritable teaching tools to pass on otherwise difficult language concepts to students, especially in the context of acquiring a foreign language. Proverbs can actually be viewed as succinct sayings that convey semantically-laden units expressing a people's worldview. In this paper, an attempt is made to illustrate the effectiveness of using culture-specific units like French proverbs to teach challenging grammatical features to English-speaking students in a French class. For example, grammatical aspects like verb conjugation French syntax, etc., can be effectively tackled. Translational techniques could then serve as pedagogical tools to bring about a better grasp of the foreign language being acquired, and in the process, exposure to a larger world culture would be achieved 展开更多

基于续论的续写任务为外语教学提供了新思路,续写任务对二语词汇的促学效果也已经得到了大量实证研究的验证。本文对现有的基于续论的二语词汇习得研究进行了回顾与探讨,首先讨论了续写促学词汇的理论依据,然后分析现有研究在任务类型... 基于续论的续写任务为外语教学提供了新思路,续写任务对二语词汇的促学效果也已经得到了大量实证研究的验证。本文对现有的基于续论的二语词汇习得研究进行了回顾与探讨,首先讨论了续写促学词汇的理论依据,然后分析现有研究在任务类型、研究范式及影响促学效果的因素等方面的特点。研究发现:(1)基于续论的二语词汇习得研究采用的续写任务类型较为单一,缺少多轮续写、交叉续写等形式的应用,尚未完全发挥出续写任务的促学潜力;(2)现有研究往往仅从词汇知识深度或质量的角度测量词汇知识,忽略了词汇流利度的作用;(3)现有研究主要考察了互动强度和外语水平等因素对续写任务促学效果的影响,对学习者认知与情感因素的关注不足。在此基础上,本文分析了基于续论的二语词汇习得研究的发展方向及趋势,以期为续论在外语教学中的应用研究提供一定的参考。 展开更多

为进一步探究读后续写任务中二语写作者对输入的加工及其对后续产出的作用,本文聚焦输入加工过程,以“注意”为窗口,分析学习者在读后续写任务中输入加工注意分配对产出结果的影响。本文采用有声思维、笔记和即时回顾性访谈相结合的研... 为进一步探究读后续写任务中二语写作者对输入的加工及其对后续产出的作用,本文聚焦输入加工过程,以“注意”为窗口,分析学习者在读后续写任务中输入加工注意分配对产出结果的影响。本文采用有声思维、笔记和即时回顾性访谈相结合的研究方法,记录输入加工,从意义、形式和结构3个方面对注意进行编码,并将注意占比与对应分项评价指标(内容、语言使用、语篇结构)进行相关性分析。研究发现:在读后续写输入加工中,学习者对意义的注意占比最高,其次是对结构和形式的注意;对形式的注意能够直接影响语言产出表现,即对形式的注意与词汇复杂度呈负相关,与准确度呈正相关。输入加工中对形式的注意与产出结果有直接关联,因此,在教学实践中应更多地关注学习者注意的质量,促发深层次加工,实现有效的语言吸收和内化。 展开更多

Traditionally, literary reading is regarded as a practicalmeans to stimulate the interest of EFL students in their study ofEnglish to accelerate the development of their L2 acquisition;literary works are considered a prime resource of linguistic inputto heighten the quality of learners’ target language. Yet, the re-search findings from this study indicate that such linguistic inputcannot effectively benefit the English majors when their L2 is notwell developed to cope efficaciously with such readers. In addi-tion, research findings also indicate that many literary wordsand phrases related to another cultural and social background notonly intensify the obstacles to proper comprehension but alsolimit opportunity for practical application of this sort of linguis-tic input in the social milieu where the learners live.
