An Efficient Differential Evolution for Truss Sizing Optimization Using AdaBoost Classifier

Design constraints verification is the most computationally expensive task in evolutionary structural optimization due to a large number of structural analyses thatmust be conducted.Building a surrogatemodel to approximate the behavior of structures instead of the exact structural analyses is a possible solution to tackle this problem.However,most existing surrogate models have been designed based on regression techniques.This paper proposes a novel method,called CaDE,which adopts a machine learning classification technique for enhancing the performance of the Differential Evolution(DE)optimization.The proposed method is separated into two stages.During the first optimization stage,the original DE is implemented as usual,but all individuals produced in this phase are stored as inputs of the training data.Based on design constraints verification,these individuals are labeled as“safe”or“unsafe”and their labels are saved as outputs of the training data.When collecting enough data,an AdaBoost model is trained to evaluate the safety state of structures.This model is then used in the second stage to preliminarily assess new individuals,and unpromising ones are rejected without checking design constraints.This method reduces unnecessary structural analyses,thereby shortens the optimization process.Five benchmark truss sizing optimization problems are solved using the proposed method to demonstrate its effectiveness.The obtained results show that the CaDE finds good optimal designs with less structural analyses in comparison with the original DE and four other DE variants.The reduction rate of five examples ranges from 18 to over 50%.Moreover,the proposed method is applied to a real-size transmission tower design problem to exhibit its applicability in practice. 展开更多

Fingerprint segmentation is one of the most important preprocessing steps in an automatic fingerprint identification system (AFIS). Accurate segmentation of a fingerprint will greatly reduce the computation time of the following processing steps, and the most importantly, exclude many spurious minutiae located at the boundary of foreground. In this paper, a new fingerprint segmenta- tion algorithm is presented. First, two new features, block entropy and block gradient entropy, are proposed. Then, an AdaBoost classifier is designed to discriminate between foreground and background blocks based on these two features and five other commonly used features. The classification error rate (Err) and McNemar's test are used to evaluate the performance of our method. Experimental results on FVC2000, FVC2002 and FVC2004 show that our method outperforms other methods proposed in the literature both in accuracy and stability. 展开更多

A quantitative survey of rice planthoppers in paddy fields is important to assess the population density and make forecasting decisions. Manual rice planthopper survey methods in paddy fields are time-consuming, fatiguing and tedious. This paper describes a handheld device for easily capturing planthopper images on rice stems and an automatic method for counting rice planthoppers based on image processing. The handheld device consists of a digital camera with WiFi, a smartphone and an extrendable pole. The surveyor can use the smartphone to control the camera, which is fixed on the front of the pole by WiFi, and to photograph planthoppers on rice stems. For the counting of planthoppers on rice stems, we adopt three layers of detection that involve the following:(a) the first layer of detection is an AdaBoost classifier based on Haar features;(b) the second layer of detection is a support vector machine(SVM) classifier based on histogram of oriented gradient(HOG) features;(c) the third layer of detection is the threshold judgment of the three features. We use this method to detect and count whiteback planthoppers(Sogatella furcifera) on rice plant images and achieve an 85.2% detection rate and a 9.6% false detection rate. The method is easy, rapid and accurate for the assessment of the population density of rice planthoppers in paddy fields. 展开更多

Modelling an Efficient Clinical Decision Support System for Heart Disease Prediction Using Learning and Optimization Approaches

With the worldwide analysis,heart disease is considered a significant threat and extensively increases the mortality rate.Thus,the investigators mitigate to predict the occurrence of heart disease in an earlier stage using the design of a better Clinical Decision Support System(CDSS).Generally,CDSS is used to predict the individuals’heart disease and periodically update the condition of the patients.This research proposes a novel heart disease prediction system with CDSS composed of a clustering model for noise removal to predict and eliminate outliers.Here,the Synthetic Over-sampling prediction model is integrated with the cluster concept to balance the training data and the Adaboost classifier model is used to predict heart disease.Then,the optimization is achieved using the Adam Optimizer(AO)model with the publicly available dataset known as the Stalog dataset.This flowis used to construct the model,and the evaluation is done with various prevailing approaches like Decision tree,Random Forest,Logistic Regression,Naive Bayes and so on.The statistical analysis is done with theWilcoxon rank-summethod for extracting the p-value of the model.The observed results show that the proposed model outperforms the various existing approaches and attains efficient prediction accuracy.This model helps physicians make better decisions during complex conditions and diagnose the disease at an earlier stage.Thus,the earlier treatment process helps to eliminate the death rate.Here,simulation is done withMATLAB 2016b,and metrics like accuracy,precision-recall,F-measure,p-value,ROC are analyzed to show the significance of the model. 展开更多
