Estimation on Aesthetic Value of Tourist Landscapes in a Natural Heritage Site:Kanas National Nature Reserve,Xinjiang,China

Most world natural heritage sites are designated partly by reason of their prominent aesthetic values in accordance with Article Ⅶ of World Natural Heritage Convention.In this paper, the aesthetic values of Kanas National Nature Reserve, which has potential for such designation, was analyzed quantitatively using scenic beauty estimation(SBE).The landscapes of 19 representative scenic spots in the Kanas National Nature Reserve in summer and autumn were selected as the objects of evaluation.The contributions of different landscape factors to the aesthetic value of the Kanas National Nature Reserve were revealed using a multivariate quantitative model.The main factors affecting the aesthetic value were waterscapes, vegetation, mountains, folk culture and the tourist environment.The t-test and F-test results are extremely significant.According to the results, some suggestions were given for conserving the landscapes in the Kanas National Nature Reserve.

Aesthetic value of parallelism

English is the most widely used language in the world and is abundant in rhetorical devices, among which parallel structure is of paramount importance. Hence the mastery of the characteristics of parallel structure facilitates one＇s appreciation of English literary works. Based on the appreciation and analysis of the artistic expression of parallel structure in some of the most famous English sayings and classic prose, this paper investigates the aesthetic value of parallel structure in creating emotion-and-rhythm-packed discourse.

Aesthetic value of aeolian geomorphosites in the Kumtagh Desert,China

Tourism development of aeolian geomorphosites in the Kumtagh Desert is beneficial to both harmonious development of human-nature relationship and the sustainable development of the tourist industry in the Kumtagh Desert and its sur- rounding area. This paper adopts some research methods including field observation, expert assessment, and systematic investigation to analyze and evaluate the aesthetic value of aeolian geomorphosites in the Kumtagh Desert from three aspects of＂Beauty of Morphology＂, ＂Beauty of Color＂ and ＂Beauty of Forms＂. This research is a creative work in the field of aeolian geomorphosites combining the method of aeolian geomorphology and tourism geography.

Landscape Pattern and Tourism Aesthetic Value of Shrubs in the Mountainous Area of West Sichuan, China

Shrubs is one of the major types of natural terrestrial ecosystems.China is one of the largest shrubs distribution countries in the world,and the mountainous area of west Sichuan in the southwest region is one of the key distribution sections.Nevertheless,the basic data of shrubs has long been unexplored.This study was designed to document and map the landscape pattern of the shrubs by using land use data with the help of field survey data and well-established landscape metrics.The study area was classifi ed into 7 fi rst-class land cover types and 19 second-class shrubs types.The results showed that grassland,forest,and shrubs landscapes are 3 dominant types.Shrubs landscape showed high quality,fragmentation,aggregation and diversity,richness of resources.Based on these,this paper also presented an outspread discussion on the tourism aesthetic value of shrubs.The conclusion is that the aesthetic value and tourism resources value of shrubs are both considerable,especially for Rhododendron L.shrubs.And ecotourism is suitable for shrubs’exploration and environmental education.Analyzing distribution of shrubs landscape and discussing its tourism aesthetic value can provide a reference and idea for future research.

Contribution of Community Forestry in Poverty Reduction: Case Study of Multiple Community Forests of Bajhang District, Nepal

In Nepal,nearly half of the total land is covered by forest,which holds a potentially important position in promoting rural livelihoods and in alleviating rural poverty.The rural landscape that encompasses an agrarian economy,a fragile ecology,and a complex and differentiated society is changing rapidly in Nepal today.Although poverty alleviation has been one of the top priorities for national development since 1976,poverty still remains widespread,persistent and it is also an acute problem in Nepal,where people are in a state of deprivation with regard to incomes,clothing,housing,healthcare,education,sanitary facilities and human rights.Thus,Nepal is considered as one of the poorest countries in South-Asia,with 25.2%people living below the poverty line.The objective of this study was to assess changes in poverty of forest users brought on by the community forestry program,in order to analyze the level of participation in community forestry management activities.For this study,Bajhang district was chosen as the study site,which is one of the poorest and most remote districts in the country of Nepal.Different Participatory Rural Appraisal methods such as face-to face interviews,focus group discussions and key informants’interviews including secondary data were used to gather information.The findings showed that the forest users'participation in meetings,discussion and other activities,like community forestry management or silvicultural operation related to community forestry,was high.The assessment found that 42.3%,32.6%and 25.1%of respondents strongly agreed,agreed and were neutral,respectively,towards the idea that poverty reduction from community forests had occurred.The results showed almost all the respondents were depended upon agriculture and/or forest resources for their livelihoods.Different ecosystem services such as ethnomedicines,aesthetic value and ecotourism,control of soil erosion/land-slides,water recharge and soil fertility have increased due to the decomposition of leaf litter.This was apparent from the formulation of community forests.Poverty in rural areas of the country is still higher than in urban areas and the incidence of poverty is the highest in the Far western Province where this research was conducted,Therefore,the government,policy makers and other stakeholders should work hand-in-hand to effectively reduce the poverty that persists in Nepal.

＂Thematic archetypes＂ and new era fiction

Against the backdrop of Chinese culture, this paper offers a localized explanation of the Western concept of ＂archetypal criticism.＂ It proposes that four ＂thematic archetypes＂ can be observed in the relations between folklore, legends and the novel in the new era （since reform and opening up） in China. The first is the coexistence of man and nature; the second, enduring suffering and realizing one＇s poterltial; the third, discontent with reality expressed in writing about imaginary worlds; and the last, criticism of the materialistic personality which places material gain above justice and lusts after gain. The presentation, dynamics of change, practical and cultural meanings and aesthetic values of these ＂thematic archetypes＂ in the novels of the new era reveal writers＇ reflections on ＂modernity＂ and the awakening of aesthetic consciousness in relation to their own land. This paper also argues that the world outlook that pursues harmony between man and nature, the view of life that prefers justice to material gain, and the values that affirm morality, life and human dignity contained in traditional Chinese folk culture and literature may supply us with important spiritual resources for responding to contemporary life, rebuilding the poetry of life and raising the quality of culture.
