We use multi-objective optimal designs of feedback controls as a fair basis for comparing different control designs, and examine step, ramp, and periodic signals at various frequencies. Through comparing the tracking performances of controls designed with different reference signals,we find that the controls designed with ramp signals perform better in tracking step and ramp references than those designed with step signals. To track periodic signals, we find that the controls designed with periodic signals at the same frequency generally provide the best performance, and those designed with step and ramp signals perform comparably.展开更多

A combined quantitative feedback theory (QFT) controller is designed for the radar truck leveling simulator in this paper, which suffers from strong nonlinearities and system parameter uncertainties. QFT can reduce the plant uncertainties and stabilize the system, but it fails to obtain high-precision tracking. This drawback can be solved by a robust QFT control scheme based on zero phase error tracking control (ZPETC) compensation. The combined controller not only possesses high robustness, but greatly improves the system performance. To verify the effiectiveness and the potential of the proposed controller, a series of experiments have been carried out. Experimental results have demonstrated its robustness against a large range of parameters variation and high tracking precision performance, as well as its capability of restraining the load coupling among channels. The combined QFT controller can drive the radar truck leveling platform accurately, quickly and stably.展开更多

Based on the multivariable analog of circle criterion, an observer is first introduced. Then, the observer-based output tracking controller is constructively designed by using the integral backstepping approach together with completing square. It is shown that, under relatively mild conditions, all the closed-loop signals are uniformly bounded. Meanwhile the system output asymptotically tracks the desired output. A simulation example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of the theoretical results.展开更多

The whole tracking system is closed by the space virtual feedback line that is the line of sight (LOS), but the parts in the system, such as the tracking subsystem and the servo subsystem, are in the state of open-loop. The control scheme presented in this paper determines the amplitude and the reversals of bank angle respectively in the longitudinal and lateral flight plane. At each control cycle, the amplitude of the bank angle is obtained by an optimal feedback controller to minimize tracking errors. The control gains are tuned according to the closed-loop error dynamics by using optimization methods. The bank reversals are executed if the crossrange exceeds a predetermined corridor which is designed by setting a boundary function. The accuracy and robustness of the proposed closed-loop optimal feedback based control law in tracking the reference trajectory is verified via500 deviation simulations, in which modeling errors and external disturbances are considered.展开更多

We consider the particular case where the closed loop contains a channel in the feedback loop. The mutual information rate between the feedback signal and the reference input signal is used to quantify information about the reference signal that is available for feedback. This mutual information rate must be maximized in order to improve the tracking performance. The mutual information is shown to be upper bounded by a quantity that depends on the unstable eigenvalues of the plant and on the channel capacity. If the channel capacity reaches a lower limit, the feedback signal becomes completely uncorrelated with the reference signal, rendering feedback useless. We also find a lower bound on the expected squared tracking error in terms of the entropy of a random reference signal. We show a misleading case where the mutual information rate does not predict the expected effect of nonminimum phase zeros. However, mutual information rate helps generalize the concept that there is a tradeoff when tracking and disturbance rejection are simultaneous goals, and a constraint communication channel is present in the feedback loop. Examples and simulations are provided to demonstrate some of the results.展开更多
