And on what mechanisms do this stability arise? From the perspective of personalitysolidification theory, this study sample of 1951 primary and secondary school students was used toexplore the relationship between child maltreatment, Big Five personality and internalized and externalizedaggression, as well as the different mechanisms of differentiation of personality components in child maltreatmenton two different natures of aggression, using four scales: The Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (CTQ), RevisedNEO Personality Inventory (NEO-PI-R), None-suicidal Self-Injury Scale and Aggression Questionnaire. The findingssuggest that (1) neuroticism plays the same mediating mechanism in the effect of child maltreatment on thepersistence of internalized and externalized aggression;and (2) conscientiousness plays a different mechanism ineffect of child maltreatment on both internalized and externalized aggression. Therefore, child maltreatmentshould be discouraged and the development of a sound personality should be guided, thus reducing future aggressivebehavior and promoting child development and social harmony.展开更多

The present study investigates this established relationship between aggressive behavior and ambient temperature in the highly aggressive context of professional football in the National Football League (NFL). Methods: Using a publicly available dataset, authors conducted multiple hierarchical regression analyses on game-level data (2326 games). Results: The analysis revealed that temperature positively predicted aggressive penalties in football, and that this relationship was significant for teams playing at home but not for visiting teams. Conclusion: These results indicate that even in the aggressive context of football, warmer weather contributes to increased violence. Further, the presence of the heat-aggression relationship for the home team suggests that the characteristics of interacting groups may influence whether heat would have an adverse effect on the outcome of those interactions.展开更多

Children affected exhibit disruptive behaviors, usually negative, hostile, and defiant behavior similar to Oppositional Defiant Disorder [ODD]. As the child gets older they begin to display more characteristic of Conduct Disorder (lying, fighting, and stealing, vindictive behavior). These children are also likely to have comorbidities including Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), learning disabilities, poor academic achievement, and substance abuse. Distinguishing early between symptoms of Conduct Disorder versus other differential diagnoses is essential in effective treatment. Early intervention with these children leads to a better prognosis and likelihood of functioning in society. Clinical and experimental data provide evidence that serine protease dipeptidyl peptidase-IV (DPP-IV, EC 3.4.14.5) is involved in the pathophysiology of psycho-emotional disorders. Recently, we have shown that adolescent and adult rats exhibit an increase in anxiety and depression-related behaviors after neonatal administration of a synthetic non-competitive inhibitor of DPP-IV, methionyl-2(S)-cyano-pyrrolidine. In the present study, we tested the effects of two competitive, selective DPP-IV inhibitors, sitagliptin (4 mg/kg) and diprotin A (2 mg/kg), administered at postnatal days 5 - 18 on the emotional and motivational behavior of adolescent and adult rats. We observed increased anxiety in one-month-old diprotin A- or sitagliptin-treated rats in the elevated plus maze;diprotin A also enhanced the animals’ anxiety score using a ranked scale for evaluating anxiety and phobias. In the sucrose consumption and preference test, depressive-like behavior was pronounced in both the diprotin A- and sitagliptin-treated one-month-old animals, while only the diprotin A-treated rats exhibited a decrease in sucrose consumption at the age of 2 months. The diprotin A-treated rats also demonstrated behavioral despair and decreased activity in the forced swimming test within 1 - 3 months of age. Increased aggression was observed in 1 - 3-month-old diprotin A-treated rats and in two-month-old sitagliptin-treated rats. These findings support the hypothesis that DPP-IV is involved in the genesis of emotional and motivational disorders. Additionally, the results show that diprotin А impairs the adolescent and adult rats’ behavior more significantly than sitagliptin when the animals were treated with the DPP-IV inhibitors in the early postnatal period.展开更多

Characteristics of aggression were assessed using three self-report questionnaires as well as systematic staff observations, complemented with data from criminal records. A semi-structured interview was conducted to rate lifetime prevalence of TBI and the Iowa Gambling Task (IGT) was completed to assess risky decision-making. Out of the total of 133 participants, 74 (55.6%) reported having sustained one or more incidents with potential TBI. Statistical comparisons between offenders with and without TBI indicated that the offenders with TBI reported significantly higher levels of (reactive) aggression on two out of three questionnaires than offenders without TBI (p-values ranging from 0.003 to 0.008), but no significant differences were found on staff observations of aggression and on the IGT. The higher conviction rates in offenders with TBI compared to the non-TBI group showed a trend. The confirmed relationship between TBI and higher aggressive tendencies is especially relevant for forensic populations due to the high prevalence rates of TBI in offenders. How this relates to specific cognitive processes remains unclear. The lack of a statistical difference between offenders with and without TBI on the IGT is in contrast with literature in non-offender samples, but seems to be in line with other studies in forensic populations.展开更多

This paper aims to study the effect of repeated social defeats and, for contrast, repeated aggression in daily agonistic interactions on the behaviors of CD-1 male mice. The behavior of animals that have the same winning and losing track record during 3, 10, 21 days is studied in different tests. The level of aggressiveness, as estimated by the number and total time of attacks, decreases;nevertheless, direct and indirect forms of aggression demonstrated by the aggressive mice (winners) remain significantly high. The number of stereotypic behaviors (rotations and jumps) and total time of digging behaviors are significantly increased in the winners after 21 days compared to 3 and 10 days of intermale confrontations. Among the losers, chronic experience of social defeats is accompanied by the development of pronounced anxiety and a depression-like state estimated by the elevated plus-maze and the Porsolt test scores, respectively. Both groups of male mice with alternative social behaviors demonstrate abnormal locomotor and exploratory behaviors in the open-field test. This phenomenon may be viewed as hyperactivity developed under chronic agonistic interactions and specific for the outbred CD-1 mice. We believe that these animals may be potentially used for modeling the key symptoms of bipolar disorder.展开更多

A decrease of 5-HT in the brain intensifies this type of aggression and in contrast, the increase of 5-HT reduces it. The aim of this study was to examine the effects of different concentrations of sertraline HCl on aggressive behavior of Betta splendens male fish. It was concluded that sertraline added to aquarium water in the dose of 0.4, 4.0 and/or 100.0 μg·L-1 BW during 14 days of exposition increased synaptic levels of 5-HT which in turn resulted in reduction of specific aggressive behavior in the environmental concentrations (0.4 μg) and then times higher. Sertraline caused a periodic, and sometimes even total weakening of the male-male type fight, which was a standard trial applied in ethological research on the Siamese fighting fish. In the current study, the most effective one is proved to be the dose of 4.0 μg·L-1 BW (parallel to earlier investigated fluoxetine in the same dose).展开更多

If the global assumption is correct what are the likely implications of predicted relation? The central issue in present research is to verify this assumption and examine how situational characteristics can alter executive performance in adults experiencing Civil War (Syrians students living in their country or in a host country) and adults experiencing peaceful life (French students) to explore some of the consequences of those modifications for aggressive and anxious tendencies. Precisely, we expect the positive correlations between poor executive performances and high dispositional as well situational aggressive and anxious tendencies, specifically for adults exposed to warfare. In order to assess executive capacities and dispositional as well as situational aggressive and anxious tendencies, during one pilot and two comparative studies [pilot study: N = 60 female French students;first comparative study: N = 60 French and N = 60 Syrian students of both sexes (50%);second comparative study: N = 60 Syrian students of both sexes (50%) living in France] right-handed French/Arabic-speakers participants complete twice, before and after completion executive tasks (standard neuropsychological tests) under different experimental conditions (Aversive/Neutral condition), a series of aggression and anxiety questionnaires. The results provide evidence of a dispositional relationship between poor executive functioning and negative reactivity, and extend it to situational level. For all participants, it shows that increases in impulsiveness (negative emotionality and aggressive choices) due to an aversive noise (80 db) are concomitant with an inability to focus individuals’ attention on ongoing tasks, specifically in those living directly or indirectly stressful life-event.展开更多

The subjects were 2844 fourth graders participated in the Korean Youth Panel Survey between 2004 and 2008. Internet game use, the levels of aggression, self-esteem, self-control, stress, depression, attachment to parents, parental control, attachment to teachers, and attachment to peers were measured by 5-point Likert scales. The result showed that gender was the most effective factor influencing the initial level of, the rate of changes, an increase or decrease in the rate of changes in Internet game use and levels of aggression. Boys showed higher levels of Internet game use and aggression than girls. Children with higher self-esteem, self-control and lower stress and depression showed lower levels of Internet game use and aggression. The levels of Internet game use at fourth grade was positively correlated with later increase in the levels of aggression. Also, the faster increase in Internet game use caused faster increase in the levels of aggression later. Based on the results, preventive measures such as limiting the opportunities to access Internet games might be worth to decrease the aggressive behaviors among children.展开更多

In this context, the meta-analysis of the studies existing in the literature and covering the Turkish students has been conducted. The examined researches to be included in the analysis have been identified in accordance with certain criteria. As criteria, the following conditions have been sought: inclusion of the studies published between 2004 and 2015, inclusion of child, adolescent, and young adult students in the sample, giving the validity and reliability studies of the measuring tools, the studies being obtained from sources of the published theses and articles; and in the data, the arithmetic mean, standard deviation, and sample size being given. In the research, gender has been found effective on the general aggression scores, at significant level (EDavg = .280, p 〈 .01), and against males at medium level. The general aggression scores from the moderator variables have been found to have a medium level of effect (EDavg = .402, p 〈 .01) on the childhood period, and to have the greatest effect against males.展开更多

The subscales of the Urgency, Premeditation, Perseverance and Sensation seeking (UPPS) impulsivity scale and the Bryant and Smith shortened and refined version of the Aggression Questionnaire were used to describe and compare impulsive and aggressive behavior in extremely violent and aggressive male inmates and non-violent healthy male controls. The Mann-Whitney test showed that there was a significant difference (p < 0. 006) in the total UPPS impulsivity scale scores between the aggressive inmates and the controls. The subscales revealed that this difference was based mainly on the urgency score (p < 0. 003). On the aggression subscales, the inmates scored significantly higher for physical aggression than the controls (p < 0.001), but no significant difference was seen between inmates and controls for verbal aggression, anger and hostility, although the exact p-value was very close to statistical significance at 0.054. Regression analysis revealed a strong relationship between urgency and the aggression subscales hostility (p = 0.0004) and anger (p = 0.003) and that urgency was also linked to symptoms of anxiety (p = 0.008). Finally, a statistically significant link was found between both hostility (p = 0.0003) and anger (p = 0.002) and symptoms of anxiety. The highly selected subgroup of extremely violent criminals in this study were more physically aggressive than non-violent controls, with urgency as the driving feature in their impulsive behavior, and hostility, anger and symptoms of anxiety as underlying traits.展开更多

This study mainly tested the effects of violent stimuli on aggression by employing modified Stroop task. A total of 188 undergraduates participated in this study. Results showed that undergraduates exposing to violent stimuli exhibited high levels of aggression, whereas undergraduates who exposed to non-violent stimuli displayed low levels of aggression. Specifically, males, but not females, manifested high levels of aggression after exposure to violent stimuli. Moreover, viewers with high-aggressiveness (HA), but not with moderate-aggressiveness (MA) and low-aggressiveness (LA), showed high levels of aggression after exposure to violent stimuli via internet.展开更多

We believe that these animals may be potentially used for modeling the key symptoms of bipolar disorder.
文摘In conspecific type of aggression the modulation of 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) plays a main role. In the current study, the most effective one is proved to be the dose of 4.0 μg·L-1 BW (parallel to earlier investigated fluoxetine in the same dose).
文摘This study aimed to assess the effect of customer verbal aggression(CVA)on job burnout(JB)in frontline employee in both hotels and travel agencies, trying to reveal if there is a difference between both sectors in this context. The study additionally tested the moderation role of perceived supervisor support(PSS)in the relation between customer verbal aggression and burnout in hotels and travel agencies. Two versions of the questionnaire were distributed online. The first among hotels employees and the second was addressed to travel agencies employees;613 were retrieved and analyzed using the version of Spss 23.0.The results showed a significant difference among the level of customer verbal aggression, job burnout, and perceived supervisor support in hotels and travel agencies.Although there was a significant relation between customer verbal aggression and job burnout among frontline employees in both settings, this relationship was moderated by PSS in hotels but not in travel agencies.Eventually, the study concludes with recommendations and practical managerial implications in this regard and it can be considered as a first step for helping practitioners to efficiently manage such a phenomenon.
文摘Recent advances in the study of affective-cognitive regulation of aggressive behavior suggest positive correlations between poor executive capacities (ECF) and negative reactivity. For all participants, it shows that increases in impulsiveness (negative emotionality and aggressive choices) due to an aversive noise (80 db) are concomitant with an inability to focus individuals’ attention on ongoing tasks, specifically in those living directly or indirectly stressful life-event.
文摘This study aimed to identify the effects of Internet game on levels of aggression in children in the context of individual, familial, and social environments. Based on the results, preventive measures such as limiting the opportunities to access Internet games might be worth to decrease the aggressive behaviors among children.
文摘With this study, it is aimed at examining the effect of the gender and developmental phases on the aggression tendencies of the Turkish students. The general aggression scores from the moderator variables have been found to have a medium level of effect (EDavg = .402, p 〈 .01) on the childhood period, and to have the greatest effect against males.
文摘Evidence is growing that aggressive behavior and impulsivity have subgroups. The highly selected subgroup of extremely violent criminals in this study were more physically aggressive than non-violent controls, with urgency as the driving feature in their impulsive behavior, and hostility, anger and symptoms of anxiety as underlying traits.
文摘The significance of this study was to find whether violent stimuli exposure could escalate the following levels of aggression in order to better cultivate aggression education among contemporary undergraduates in China. Moreover, viewers with high-aggressiveness (HA), but not with moderate-aggressiveness (MA) and low-aggressiveness (LA), showed high levels of aggression after exposure to violent stimuli via internet.
文摘The present study examined the inverse relationship between empathy(cognitive and affective)and forms of aggression(physical, verbal, anger and hostility).Previous research has continuously argued that empathy mitigates forms of aggression in individuals due to cognitive perspective taking and emotional sharing with others, that buffer hostile behaviour towards one another. However, there is a gap in the literature regarding this association in Greek culture. This correlational analysis examined empathy using the widely known multifaceted Davis Interpersonal Reactivity Index and aggression was explored using the multi-dimensional Buss-Perry Aggression Questionnaire in a sample of 92 Greek undergraduate college students from two private institutions in Athens,Greece.Gender effects on aggression and empathy levels were investigated as well. The results revealed that cognitive and emotional empathy indeed demonstrates a negative relationship with direct physical aggression. However, other forms of aggression such as verbal aggression, hostility and anger were positively associated with personal distress and Empathic fantasy majorly linked to Greek emotional regulation difficulties.Females displayed higher Empathic fantasy scores compared to males.A cultural perspective was adopted in exploring the results considering norms, gender roles, collective regulation capacities and societal conditioning, offering links to previous literature and theories.
