As a vital part of China's foreign relations,China's aid to Africa has scored great achievements.Based on data from the Afrobarometer Survey in 2010 and data from the database of China's aid to Africa in 2000-2010 co-created by the US Center for Global Development and AidData, this paper dissects the macro-and micro-level determinants of the African public's perception of the effectiveness of aid from China through an empirical analysis. As descriptive statistics reveal, the African public has a highly positive view of aid from China despite country differences.According to our further analysis of a multilevel model, aid recipients with higher levels of democracy and economic development have a more favorable view of aid from China, while the size and sector of aid from China are not correlated with public favorability. At the micro-level,age,gender,education,race and media consumption are positively correlated with the public perception of aid.In conclusion,China must refocus its future aid programs on livelihood and welfare that directly benefit local people, rather than simply increasing the amount of aid.In delivering its commitments to Africa,China must also attach importance to public communication and "telling the China story " in its international affairs to improve its national image and gain more recognition by the African people. 展开更多

IntroductionCurrently, there are at least 850,000 people living with human immuno-deficiency virus (HIV) and acquired immuno-deficiency syndrome (AIDS) in China. Among them 16-29 years old account for about 65%. According to the Chinese health authorities, if the preventive measures are not effective, the figure could reach as many as 10 million by the year 2010[1]. Since there are currently no cure or vaccines for HIV/AIDS, changing people's high-risk behaviors is the main approach that is taken to slow down the epidemic. This can be done through effective HIV/AIDS education, especially for young people. In 1997, a 4-year adolescent HIV/AIDS peer education program was introduced to in Beijing and Shanghai, which was based on a successful Australian model developed by Professor Roger Short, in which senior medical students were trained and used as peer educators to teach their junior peers about HIV/AIDS[2].…… 展开更多

China's aid has always been an interesting topic in the field of development economics, and the effectiveness of aid is also a controversial subject in the literature. This paper explores the relationship between China's aid and the governance of its recipient countries from 2000 to 2014.We found that, compared with the vertical paradigm"of traditional donors,China's f,horizontal paradigm‘‘has unique features, promoting the governance of recipient countries. We employed a cross-sectional estimation and panel analysis with several regression methods. While our cross-sectional findings did not yield robust evidence to support a relationship between Chinese aid and its recipients'governance, our panel data regressions found a significant and positive relationship. The results were robust in a dynamic panel, even after correcting for endogeneity. Thus,China's aid has a positive influence on governance with the inclusion of time series. The relationship was found to vary according to aid types. 展开更多

IntroductionTeaching vocabulary,is one of the most important tasks in teaching English. With successful teaching ofvocabulary, students will find English classes interesting and words easy to memorise. If English classesare dull, students will not be interested in trying to learn new words.Sometime students find itimpossible to distinguish the difference between so many similar words. In my experience, one of themost effective ways to solve the problems is to make appropriate use of a very simple teaching aid-coloured chalk.Coloured chalk can produce‘sharp contrasts’on the blackboard.‘Sharp contrasts’willhelp students to discover associations between words, word formations, and minor differences in thespelling of some commonly confused words. With coloured chalk, teachers do not have to ask studentsagain and again to pay attention, the‘sharp contrasts’will highlight the key features.Teachingvocabulary with appropriate use of coloured chalk will produce twice the result with half the effort. 展开更多

SINCE the first case of AIDS was found in the United States in June 1981, AIDS patients and persons infected with HIV have reached 17.41 million in the world. Among the more than four million AIDS patients, over two million have died. Currently, China has 1,435 patients infected with HIV.
