The banding structures were observed in both hypoperitectic and hyperperitectic compositions (Pb-xBi, x=26%, 28%, 30% and 34%). Tree-like primary α phase in the center of the sample surrounded by the peritectic β phase matrix was also observed, resulting from the melt convection. The banding microstructure, however, is found to be transient after the tree-like structure and only the peritectic phase forms after a few bands. Composition variations in the banding structure are measured to determine the nucleation undercooling for both α and β phases. In a finite length sample, convection is shown to lead only to the transient formation of bands. In this transient banding regime, only a few bands with a variable width are formed, and this transient banding process can occur over a wide range of compositions inside the two-phase peritectic region.展开更多

The results show that the solidification structure of austenitic stainless steel can be remarkably refined in pulsed magnetic field, yet the grains become coarse again when the magnetic intensity is exceedingly large, indicating that an optimal intensity range existed for structure refinement. Therefore, an FE (Finite Element) - CA (Cellular Automaton) coupling model was developed for the simulation of solidification structure during the continuous casting process of 72A tire cord steel. In the model, the effect of phase transformation (λ→γ→α) during solidification was considered based on a thermodynamic database. Therefore, in this research, different sand moulds were used to explore the influence of cooling rate on the solidification of the 2304 duplex stainless steel (DSS). The macro and micro structures of the 2304 DSS were investigated. In addition, the linear contraction of the 2304 DSS decreases from 2.34% to 1.09% when the mean cooling rate above 1,173 K increases from 0.99 K·s-1 to 3.66 K·s-1.展开更多

The orthogonal array L9 was used to determine the effect of three process parameters of electropulse modification (EPM), which were pulse current intensity, pulse frequency, and treating time. For each factor, three levels were chosen to cover the experimental region. According to the experimental results, the solidification structure of commercially pure aluminium was modified from large grains with columnar crystals to finer grains with equiaxed crystals, by allowing the electropulse to act on liquid aluminium. However, the solidification structures could be refined differently at different EPM parameters. Certain EPM parameters should be selected to get the optimum solidification structure. Among the three parameters, pulse frequency was the most important factor influencing the solidification structure, the secondary factor was current intensity, and treating time was the third one. The optimum parameters were the pulse frequency of 5 Hz, the current intensity of 68 A, and the treating time of l0 s.展开更多

The results indicate that the semisolid slurry of A356 aluminum alloy can be prepared by self-inoculation method at 600℃. Primary a-AI particles with fine and spherical morphologies are uniformly distributed when the isothermal holding time of slurry is 3 min. Liquid phase segregation occurs during rheo-diecasting process of semisolid slurry and the primary particles (α1) show obvious plastic deformation in the area of high stress and low cooling rate. A small amount of dendrites resulting from the relatively low temperature of the shot chamber at the initial stage of secondary solidification are fragmented as they pass through the in-gate during the mould filling process. The amount of dendrite fragments decreases with the increase of filling distance. During the solidification process of the remaining liquid, the nucleation rate of secondary particles (α2) increases with the increase of cooling rate, and the content of Si in secondary particles (α2) are larger than primary particles (α1). With the increase of cooling rate, the content of Si in secondary particles (α2) gradually increases. The morphologies of eutectic Si in different parts of die casting are noticeably different. The low cooling rate in the first filling positions leads to coarse eutectic structures, while the high cooling rate in the post filling positions promotes small and compact eutectic structures.展开更多

The characteristics of the macrostructures and microstructures were studied using a linear intercept method, OM, SEM (BSE), XRD and TEM. The results showed that the ingots with Hf have near lamellar microstructure in columnar and dendrite morphology. The hafnium concentration has a strong effect on the columnar spacing refinement. Increasing Hf from 0 to 7 (at.%), the columnar spacing can be reduced from - 1000 to-400 μm. Constitute phases of the ingots are a2, a small amount of B2 and 7. Most of the B2 phases, richer in Hf and leaner in AI and Ti, exist on the node of the dendrite core in block shape and a little across the lamellar colonies in stick shape. The 7 phases exist on the boundaries of lamellar colonies in small cellular shape. There also exists a segregation of Hf on the columnar and dendrite core. Particularly, both the a-and ,β-phase form from the melt as prior phases. The possible phase sequencing during solidification and solid-state transformations with Hf is given in this paper.展开更多

文摘Directional solidification experiments on Pb-Bi peritectic alloys were carried out at very low growth rate (v=0.5 μm/s) and high temperature gradient (G=35 K/mm) in an improved Bridgman furnace. In this transient banding regime, only a few bands with a variable width are formed, and this transient banding process can occur over a wide range of compositions inside the two-phase peritectic region.

文摘To investigate the effect of hafnium addition on the solidification structure, Ti-46AI alloys with nominal compositions of Ti-46AI-xHf (x = 0, 3, 5, 7) (at.%) were arc-melted into small ingots in an argon atmosphere. The possible phase sequencing during solidification and solid-state transformations with Hf is given in this paper.

文摘Understanding the nature of liquid structures and properties has always been a hot field in condensed matter physics and metallic materials science. The liquid is not homogeneous and the local structures inside change discontinuously with temperature, pressure, etc. The liquid will experience liquid−liquid structure transition under a certain condition.Liquid−liquid structure transition widely exists in many metals and alloys and plays an important role in the final microstructure and the properties of the solid alloys. This work provides a comprehensive review on this unique structure transition in the metallic liquid together with the recent progress of its impact on the following microstructure and properties after solidification. These effects are discussed by integrating them into different experimental results and theoretical considerations. The application of liquid−liquid structure transition as a strategy to tailor the properties of metals and alloys is proven to be practical and efficient.
