文摘This work studied the microstructure, mechanical properties and damping properties of Mg_(95.34)Ni_(2)Y_(2.66) and Mg_(95.34)Zn_(1)Ni_(1)Y_(2.66)alloys systematically. The difference in the evolution of the long-period stacked ordered(LPSO)phase in the two alloys during heat treatment was the focus. The morphology of the as-cast Mg_(95.34)Ni_(2)Y_(2.66)presented a disordered network. After heat treatment at 773 K for 2 hours, the eutectic phase was integrated into the matrix, and the LPSO phase maintained the 18R structure. As Zn partially replaced Ni,the crystal grains became rounded in the cast alloy, and lamellar LPSO phases and more solid solution atoms were contained in the matrix after heat treatment of the Mg_(95.34)Zn_(1)Ni_(1)Y_(2.66)alloy.Both Zn and the heat treatment had a significant effect on damping.Obvious dislocation internal friction peaks and grain boundary internal friction peaks were found after temperature-dependent damping of the Mg_(95.34)Ni_(2)Y_(2.66)and Mg_(95.34)Zn_(1)Ni_(1)Y_(2.66)alloys.After heat treatment, the dislocation peak was significantly increased, especially in the alloy Mg_(95.34)Ni_(2)Y_(2).66.The annealed Mg_(95.34)Ni_(2)Y_(2.66)alloy with a rod-shaped LPSO phase exhibited a good damping performance of 0.14 atε=10^(−3),which was due to the difference between the second phase and solid solution atom content. These factors also affected the dynamic modulus of the alloy. The results of this study will help in further development of high-damping magnesium alloys.

文摘Within the past ten years, spark plasma sintering(SPS)has become an increasingly popular process for Mg manufacturing. In the SPS process, interparticle diffusion of compressed particles is rapidly achieved due to the concept of Joule heating.Compared to traditional and additive manufacturing(AM)techniques,SPS gives unique control of the structural and microstructural features of Mg components.By doing so,their mechanical, tribological, and corrosion properties can be tailored.Although great advancements in this field have been made, these pieces of knowledge are scattered and have not been contextualized into a single work. The motivation of this work is to address this scientific gap and to provide a groundwork for understanding the basics of SPS manufacturing for Mg.To do so,the existing body of SPS Mg literature was first surveyed, with a focus on their structural formation and degradation mechanisms. It was found that successful Mg SPS fabrication highly depended on the processing temperature, particle size, and particle crystallinity. The addition of metal and ceramic composites also affected their microstructural features due to the Zener pinning effect. In degradative environments, their performance depends on their structural features and whether they have secondary phased composites. In industrial applications,SPS'd Mg was found to have great potential in biomedical, hydrogen storage, battery, automotive, and recycling sectors. The prospects to advance the field include using Mg as a doping agent for crystallite size refinement and using bulk metallic Mg-based glass powders for amorphous SPS components.Despite these findings, the interactions of multi-composites on the processing-structure-property relationships of SPS Mg is not well understood. In total, this work will provide a useful direction in the SPS field and serve as a milestone for future Mg-based SPS manufacturing.

文摘Biodegradable implants from magnesium(Mg)alloys have emerged in the biomedical field especially in the orthopedic and cardiovascular stent applications owing to their low density, high specific strength, excellent machinability, good biocompatibility, and biodegradability. The primary shortcoming of Mg-based implants is their low corrosion resistance in the physiological environment, which results in premature mechanical integrity loss before adequate healing and the production of excessive hydrogen gas, which is harmful to the body tissues and negatively affects the biocompatibility of the implant.Laser surface modification has recently received attention because it can improve the surface properties such as surface chemistry, roughness, topography, corrosion resistance, wear resistance, hydrophilicity, and thus cell response to the surface of the material. The composition and microstructures including textures and phases of laser-treated surfaces depend largely on the laser processing parameters(input laser power, laser scan velocity, frequency, pulse duration, pressure, gas circulation, working time, spot size, beam focal position, and laser track overlap)and the thermophysical properties of the substrate(solubility, melting point, and boiling point). This review investigates the impacts of various laser surface modification techniques including laser surface melting, laser surface alloying, laser cladding, laser surface texturing, and laser shock peening, and highlights their significance in improving the surface properties of biodegradable Mg alloys for implant applications.Additionally,we explore how different laser process parameters affect its composition, microstructure, and surface properties in each laser surface modification technique.

文摘The electrochemical methanol oxidation is a crucial reaction in the conversion of renewable energy. To enable the widespread adoption of direct methanol fuel cells(DMFCs),it is essential to create and engineer catalysts that are both highly effective and robust for conducting the methanol oxidation reaction(MOR).In this work, trimetallic PtCoRu electrocatalysts on nitrogen-doped carbon and multi-wall carbon nanotubes(PtCoRu@NC/MWCNTs)were prepared through a two-pot synthetic strategy. The acceleration of CO oxidation to CO_(2) and the blocking of CO reduction on adjacent Pt active sites were attributed to the crucial role played by cobalt atoms in the as-prepared electrocatalysts. The precise control of Co atoms loading was achieved through precursor stoichiometry.Various physicochemical techniques were employed to analyze the morphology, element composition, and electronic state of the catalyst.Electrochemical investigations and theoretical calculations confirmed that the Pt_(1)Co_(3)Ru_(1)@NC/MWCNTs exhibit excellent electrocatalytic performance and durability for the process of MOR.The enhanced MOR activity can be attributed to the synergistic effect between the multiple elements resulting from precisely controlled Co loading content on surface of the electrocatalyst, which facilitates efficient charge transfer. This interaction between the multiple components also modifies the electronic structures of active sites, thereby promoting the conversion of intermediates and accelerating the MOR process. Thus, achieving precise control over Co loading in PtCoRu@NC/MWCNTs would enable the development of high-performance catalysts for DMFCs.

文摘Mg-6Zn-2X(Fe/Cu/Ni)alloys were prepared through semi-continuous casting, with the aim of identifying a degradable magnesium(Mg)alloy suitable for use in fracturing balls.A comparative analysis was conducted to assess the impacts of adding Cu and Ni,which result in finer grains and the formation of galvanic corrosion sites.Scanner electronic microscopy examination revealed that precipitated phases concentrated at grain boundaries, forming a semi-continuous network structure that facilitated corrosion penetration in Mg-6Zn-2Cu and Mg-6Zn-2Ni alloys.Pitting corrosion was observed in Mg-6Zn-2Fe,while galvanic corrosion was identified as the primary mechanism in Mg-6Zn-2Cu and Mg-6Zn-2Ni alloys.Among the tests, the Mg-6Zn-2Ni alloy exhibited the highest corrosion rate(approximately 932.9 mm/a)due to its significant potential difference.Mechanical testing showed that Mg-6Zn-2Ni alloy possessed suitable ultimate compressive strength, making it a potential candidate material for degradable fracturing balls, effectively addressing the challenges of balancing strength and degradation rate in fracturing applications.

文摘Mg-based amorphous alloys exhibit efficient catalytic performance and excellent biocompatibility with a promising application probability, specifically in the field of azo dye wastewater degradation. However, the problems like difficulty in preparation and poor cycling stability need to be solved. At present,Mg-based amorphous alloys applied in wastewater degradation are available in powder and ribbon. The amorphous alloy powder fabricated by ball milling has a high specific surface area, and its reactivity is thousands of times better than that of gas atomized alloy powder. But the development is limited due to the high energy consumption, difficult and costly process of powder recycling. The single roller melt-spinning method is a new manufacturing process of amorphous alloy ribbon.Compared to amorphous powder, the specific surface area of amorphous ribbon is relatively lower, therefore,it is necessary to carry out surface modification to enhance it.Dealloying is a way that can form a pore structure on the surface of the amorphous alloys, increasing the specific surface area and providing more reactive sites, which all contribute to the catalytic performance.Exploring the optimal conditions for Mg-based amorphous alloys in wastewater degradation by adjusting amorphous alloy composition, choosing suitable method to preparation and surface modification, reducing cost, expanding the pH range will advance the steps to put Mg-based amorphous alloys in industrial environments into practice.

文摘In this study,a phase-field scheme that rigorously obeys conservation laws and irreversible thermodynamics is developed for modeling stress-corrosion coupled damage(SCCD).The coupling constitutive relationships of the deformation,phase-field damage, mass transfer, and electrostatic field are derived from the entropy inequality. The SCCD localization induced by secondary phases in Mg is numerically simulated using the implicit iterative algorithm of the self-defined finite elements. The quantitative evaluation of the SCCD of a C-ring is in good agreement with the experimental results. To capture the damage localization,a micro-galvanic corrosion domain is defined, and the buffering effect on charge migration is explored.Three cases are investigated to reveal the effect of localization on corrosion acceleration and provide guidance for the design for resistance to SCCD at the crystal scale.

文摘Magnesium(Mg)-based bone implants degrade rapidly in the physiological environment of the human body which affects their structural integrity and biocompatibility before adequate bone repair.Rare earth elements(REEs)have demonstrated their effectiveness in tailoring the corrosion and mechanical behavior of Mg alloys. This study methodically investigated the impacts of scandium(Sc)and terbium(Tb)in tailoring the corrosion resistance, mechanical properties, and biocompatibility of Mg–0.5Zn–0.35Zr–0.15Mn(MZZM)alloys fabricated via casting and hot extrusion. Results indicate that addition of Sc and Tb improved the strength of MZZM alloys via grain size reduction and solid solution strengthening mechanisms. The extruded MZZM–(1–2)Sc–(1–2)Tb(wt.%)alloys exhibit compressive strengths within the range of 336–405 MPa,surpassing the minimum required strength of 200 MPa for bone implants by a significant margin.Potentiodynamic polarization tests revealed low corrosion rates of as–cast MZZM(0.25 mm/y),MZZM–2Tb(0.45 mm/y),MZZM–1Sc–1Tb(0.18 mm/y),and MZZM–1Sc–2Tb(0.64 mm/y),and extruded MZZM(0.17 mm/y),MZZM–1Sc(0.15 mm/y),MZZM-2Sc(0.45 mm/y),MZZM-1Tb(0.17 mm/y),MZZM-2Tb(0.10 mm/y),MZZM–1Sc-1Tb(0.14 mm/y),MZZM-1Sc-2Tb(0.40 mm/y),and MZZM–2Sc–2Tb(0.51 mm/y)alloys,which were found lower compared to corrosion rate of high-purity Mg(~1.0 mm/y)reported in the literature.Furthermore, addition of Sc,or Tb,or Sc and Tb to MZZM alloys did not adversely affect the viability of SaOS2 cells, but enhanced their initial cell attachment, proliferation, and spreading shown via polygonal shapes and filipodia. This study emphasizes the benefits of incorporating Sc and Tb elements in MZZM alloys,as they effectively enhance corrosion resistance, mechanical properties, and biocompatibility simultaneously.

文摘The high entropy alloys(HEAs)are the newly developed high-performance materials that have gained significant importance in defence, nuclear and aerospace sector due to their superior mechanical properties, heat resistance, high temperature strength and corrosion resistance. These alloys are manufactured by the equal mixing or larger proportions of five or more alloying elements.HEAs exhibit superior mechanical performance compared to traditional engineering alloys because of the extensive alloying composition and higher entropy of mixing.Solid state welding(SSW)techniques such as friction stir welding(FSW),rotary friction welding(RFW),diffusion bonding(DB)and explosive welding(EW)have been efficiently deployed for improving the microstructural integrity and mechanical properties of welded HEA joints. The HEA interlayers revealed greater potential in supressing the formation of deleterious intermetallic phases and maximizing the mechanical properties of HEAs joints. The similar and dissimilar joining of HEAs has been manifested to be viable for HEA systems which further expands their industrial applications. Thus, the main objective of this review paper is to present a critical review of current state of research, challenges and opportunities and main directions in SSW of HEAs mainly CoCrFeNiMn and Al_xCoCrFeNi alloys. The state of the art of problems, progress and future outlook in SSW of HEAs are critically reviewed by considering the formation of phases, microstructural evolution and mechanical properties of HEAs joints.

文摘The long-period-stacking-ordered(LPSO)structure affects the mechanical, corrosion and hydrolysis properties of Mg alloys. The current work employs high angle annular dark field-scanning transmission electron microscopy(HAADF-STEM)and atom probe tomography(APT)to investigate the structural and local chemical information of LPSO phases formed in Mg-Ni-Y/Sm ternary alloys after extended isothermal annealing.Depending on the alloying elements and their concentrations,Mg-Ni-Y/Sm develops a two-phase LPSO+α-Mg structure in which the LPSO phase contains defects, hybrid LPSO structure, and Mg insertions.HAADF-STEM and APT indicate non-stoichiometric LPSO with incomplete Ni_(6)(Y/Sm)_(8) clusters. In addition, the APT quantitatively determines the local composition of LPSO and confirms the presence of Ni within the Mg bonding layers. These results provide insight into a better understanding of the structure and hydrolysis properties of LPSO-Mg alloys.

文摘The influence of micro-Ca/In alloying on the microstructural charac teristics, electrochemical behaviors and discharge properties of extruded dilute Mg-0.5Bi-0.5Sn-based(wt.%)alloys as anodes for Mg-air batteries are evaluated. The grain size and texture intensity of the Mg-Bi-Sn-based alloys are significantly decreased after the Ca/In alloying, particularly for the In-containing alloy.Note that,in addition to nanoscale Mg_(3)Bi_(2)phase,a new microscale Mg_(2)Bi_(2)Ca phase forms in the Ca-containing alloy. The electrochemical test results demonstrate that Ca/In micro-alloying can enhance the electrochemical activity.Using In to alloy the Mg-Bi-Sn-based alloy is effective in restricting the cathodic hydrogen evolution(CHE)kinetics, leading to a low self-corrosion rate, while severe CHE occurred after Ca alloying. The micro-alloying of Ca/In to Mg-Bi-Sn-based alloy strongly deteriorates the compactness of discharge products film and mitigates the"chunk effect"(CE),hence the cell voltage, anodic efficiency as well as discharge capacity are greatly improved. The In-containing alloy exhibits outstanding discharge performance under the combined effect of the modified microstructure and discharge products, thus making it a potential anode material for primary Mg-air battery.

文摘The stability of the microstructure and mechanical properties of the pre-hardened sheets during the pre-hardening forming(PHF)process directly determines the quality of the formed components. The microstructure stability of the pre-hardened sheets was in-vestigated by differential scanning calorimetry(DSC),transmission electron microscopy(TEM),and small angle X-ray scattering(SAXS),while the mechanical properties and formability were analyzed through uniaxial tensile tests and formability tests. The results in-dicate that the mechanical properties of the pre-hardened alloys exhibited negligible changes after experiencing 1-month natural aging(NA).The deviations of ultimate tensile strength(UTS),yield strength(YS),and sheet formability(Erichsen value)are all less than 2%.Also,after different NA time(from 48 h to 1 month)is applied to alloys before pre-hardening treatment, the pre-hardened alloys possess stable microstructure and mechanical properties as well.Interestingly, with the extension of NA time before pre-hardening treatment from 48 h to 1 month, the contribution of NA to the pre-hardening treatment is limited.Only a yield strength increment of 20 MPa is achieved, with no loss in elongation. The limited enhancement is mainly attributed to the fact that only a limited number of clusters are transformed into Guinier-Preston(GP)zones at the early stage of pre-hardening treatment, and the formation ofθ''phase inhibits the nucleation and growth of GP zones as the precipitated phase evolves.

文摘This study investigates the effect of characteristics and distribution of Mg_(17)Al_(12)precipitates on the uniaxial tensile and three-point bending properties of extruded Mg alloys containing high Al contents. The extruded Mg–9Al–1Zn–0.3Mn(AZ91)alloy contains lamellar-structured Mg_(17)Al_(12)discontinuous precipitates along the grain boundaries, which are formed via static precipitation during natural air cooling. The extruded Mg–11Al–1Zn–0.3Mn(AZ111)alloy contains spherical Mg_(17)Al_(12)precipitates at the grain boundaries and inside the grains, which are formed via dynamic precipitation during extrusion.Due to inhomogeneous distribution of precipitates, the AZ111 alloy consists of two different precipitate regions:precipitate-rich region with numerous precipitates and finer grains and precipitate-scarce region with a few precipitates and coarser grains. The AZ111 alloy exhibits a higher tensile strength than the AZ91 alloy because its smaller grain size and more abundant precipitates result in stronger grain-boundary hardening and precipitation hardening effects, respectively. However, the tensile elongation of the AZ111 alloy is lower than that of the AZ91 alloy because the weak cohesion between the dynamic precipitates and the matrix facilitates the crack initiation and propagation.During bending,a macrocrack initiates on the outer surface of bending specimen in both alloys. The AZ111 alloy exhibits higher bending yield strength and lower failure bending strain than the AZ91 alloy. The bending specimens of the AZ91 alloy have similar bending formability, whereas those of the AZ111 alloy exhibit considerable differences in bending formability and crack propagation behavior, depending on the distribution and number density of precipitates in the specimen. In bending specimens of the AZ111 alloy,it is found that the failure bending strain(ε_(f,bending))is inversely proportional to the area fraction of precipitates in the outer zone of bending specimen(A_(ppt)),with a relationship ofε_(f,bending)=–0.1A_(ppt)+5.86.

文摘The as-cast Mg-2.0Zn-1.5Sn-xZr(x=0,0.4,0.6,0.8,1.0 wt%)alloy was rolled with the pressure less than 5%each time. The microstructure, mechanical properties, corrosion properties and biocompatibility of the alloy were investigated. The microstructure of the alloy was observed and analyzed by scanning electron microscope, and the tensile test was carried out by universal tensile machine. The corrosion resistance of the alloy in Hank's solution was studied by hydrogen evolution experiment and electrochemical test, and the biocompatibility of the alloy was tested by L929 cells. The results show that Mg-2Zn-1.5Sn-xZr alloy has excellent mechanical properties. The elongation of Mg-2Zn-1.5Sn-xZr alloy decreases with the increase of Zr content, but the tensile strength first increases and then decreases with the increase of Zr concentration. When the Zr content is 0.8 wt%,the maximum tensile strength of the alloy is 235 MPa.The results of hydrogen evolution experiment and electrochemical analysis show that the corrosion resistance of the alloy is the best when the Zr content is 0.8 wt%,and all the five alloys have high biocompatibility. In conclusion, the rolled alloy has good properties and has broad application prospects in the field of biomaterials.

文摘Constructing a functional hybrid coating appears to be a promising strategy for addressing the poor corrosion resistance and insufficient endothelialization of Mg-based stents.Nevertheless, the steps for preparing composite coatings are usually complicated and time-consuming.Herein,a novel composite coating, composed of bioactive magnesium thioctic acid(MTA)layer formed by deposition and corrosion-resistant magnesium hydroxide(Mg(OH)_(2))layer grown in situ,is simply fabricated on ZE21B alloys via one-step electrodeposition.Scanning electron microscopy(SEM)shows that the electrodeposited coating has a compact and uniform structure. And the high adhesion of the MTA/Mg(OH)_(2)hybrid coating is also confirmed by the micro-scratch test.Electrochemical test, scanning kelvin probe(SKP),and hydrogen evolution measurement indicate that the hybrid coating effectively reduces the degradation rate of Mg substrates.Haemocompatibility experiment and cell culture trial detect that the composite coating is of fine biocompatibility. Finally, the preparation mechanism of MTA/Mg(OH)_(2)hybrid coatings is discussed and proposed. This coating shows a great potential application for cardiovascular stents.

文摘The ocean is one of the essential fields of national defense in the future, and more and more attention is paid to the lightweight research of Marine equipment and materials. This study it is to develop a Machine learning(ML)-based prediction method to study the evolution of the mechanical properties of Al-Li alloys in the marine environment. We obtained the mechanical properties of Al-Li alloy samples under uniaxial tensile deformation at different exposure times through Marine exposure experiments. We obtained the strain evolution by digital image correlation(DIC).The strain field images are voxelized using 2D-Convolutional Neural Networks(CNN)autoencoders as input data for Long Short-Term Memory(LSTM)neural networks. Then, the output data of LSTM neural networks combined with corrosion features were input into the Back Propagation(BP)neural network to predict the mechanical properties of Al-Li alloys. The main conclusions are as follows:1.The variation law of mechanical properties of2297-T8 in the Marine atmosphere is revealed. With the increase in outdoor exposure test time, the tensile elastic model of 2297-T8 changes slowly, within 10%,and the tensile yield stress changes significantly, with a maximum attenuation of 23.6%.2.The prediction model can predict the strain evolution and mechanical response simultaneously with an error of less than 5%.3.This study shows that a CNN/LSTM system based on machine learning can be built to capture the corrosion characteristics of Marine exposure experiments. The results show that the relationship between corrosion characteristics and mechanical response can be predicted without considering the microstructure evolution of metal materials.

文摘The repair and regeneration of bone defects are highly challenging orthopedic problems.Recently,Mg-based implants have gained popularity due to their unique biodegradation and elastic modulus similar to that of human bone. The aim of our study is to develop a magnesium alloy with a controllable degradation that can closely match bone tissue to help injuries heal in vivo and avoid cytotoxicity caused by a sudden increase in ion concentration. In this study,we prepared and modified Mg-3Zn,Mg-3Zn-1Y,and Mg-2Zn-1Mn by hot extrusion, and used Mg-2.5Y-2.5Nd was as a control. We then investigated the effect of additions of Y and Mn on alloys'properties. Our results show that Mn and Y can improve not only compression strength but also corrosion resistance. The alloy Mg-2Zn-1Mn demonstrated good cytocompatibility in vitro, and for this reason we selected it for implantation in vivo. The degraded Mg-2Zn-1Mn implanted a bone defect area did not cause obvious rejection and inflammatory reaction, and the degradation products left no signs of damage to the heart, liver, kidney,or brain.Furthermore,we find that Mg-2Zn-1Mn can promote an osteoinductive response in vivo and the formation of bone regeneration.
