The angstrom turbidity coefficients have been calculated with respect to the filter channels at 340 nm, 500 nm, 870 nm, 936 nm and 1020 nm of a Sunphotometer. Assessment of the possible influx of the fine particulate concentrations to the total aerosol loading in the area have been made with respect to the calculated angstrom turbidity values for the summer and winter seasons over a period of two years from 2004 to 2006. Substantially high angstrom turbidity coefficient values exceeding 0.2 and indicative of a relatively hazy atmosphere for both the summer and winter periods over these two years from 2004-2006 have been observed. Considering the importance of this fragile mangrove ecosystem of the Sundarbans and also the vulnerability of the area to severe impacts of climate changes, this is indeed a thought provoking issue as far as the policy makers of the country are concerned. In fact, the study has confirmed positive correlation of β with τ.展开更多

The implementation of such systems in the urban environment requires accurate meteorological data for the interest area. The existence of a small number of weather stations that to offer data with regard to solar radiation as well as the limited access to these, makes necessary the conceiving of some more accurate estimation mathematical models for all climatological parameters. The present paper proposes a study of the Linke and AngstrOm turbidity coefficients, for Brasov urban area, with the purpose of a more accurate solar radiation simulation. Models performance is analyzed using the root mean square error (RMSE), the mean bias error (MBE), the mean percentage error (MPE) and the t-statistic.展开更多

Experiments were conducted using two mixed layers through PVR column--2.2 m height and 300 mm diameter. The first mixed media filter of depth 640mm mixed of sand, rice husk and granular activated carbon. The percentage volume mix is 1:1:1. While the other mixed media of depth 740 mm, consisting of coal, crash porcelinaite, rock and granite with equally percentage volume. Fifty samples were collected during the experiments, which was spread over a period of forty two weeks. The obtained results indicate that when the flow loading raised from 0.15 L/min to 2.7 L/rain, the removal efficiency of BOD decreased 8%-11%, and the removal efficiency of COD deceased 3%-4%, while the removal efficiency of turbidity increased with the decreasing of hydraulic loading. The results showed that the removal efficiency of turbidity is more than 95% at the lower discharge (0.15 L/min). Therefore, infiltration should be conservatively designed using low loading rates.展开更多

Five years of global irradiance measurements and space data recorded with MODIS are used to estimate . The models are referenced as for Dogniaux’s method, for Louche’s method, for Pinazo’s method, for Gueymard’s method and by for MODIS data. The results showed that and are very close as the couple and . values are between them. Results showed also that all Angstr?m coefficient curves have the same annual trend with maximum and minimum values respectively in summer and winter months. Annual mean values of increased from 2005 to 2008 with a slight jump in 2007 except for . The city environment explains it since the urban aerosols predominate over all other types during this period. The jump in 2007 is attributed to the ozone layer thickness that undergoes the same behavior. Some models are then more sensitive to this atmospheric component than others. The occurrence frequency distribution showed that , , , and had their maximum recurrent values near 0.03, 0.07, 0.10, 0.09 and 0.02 respectively. The cumulative frequency distribution revealed also that and yielded maximum “clean to clear” conditions with respect to others while and had the minimum. The opposite was observed on the same pairs with regard to “clear to turbid” and “turbid to very turbid” conditions. Louche’s model gave middle values of sky conditions comparing to the other models.展开更多
