It is widely used in clinical treatment of various anemia, including renal anemia and tumor-related anemia. It has been found that EPO not only promotes bone marrow hematopoietic function, but also plays an important role in non-hematopoietic organs and tissues such as heart, kidney, liver, brain and retina, as well as in the protection of nervous system. In recent years, there have been many studies and reports about EPO on various systems, but the specific mechanism of EPO has not yet been clearly defined. In this paper, the biological characteristics, physiological functions and the mechanism of action of EPO on various important systems are reviewed.展开更多
