Northeast Asian Community Building: What Needs to Be Done?

The aim of the Northeast Asian community building is to create an environment for living together peacefully and for realizing prosperity through cooperation. Economically, a community will integrate regional economies and share great interests for common prosperity. Politically, a community will stabilize the region with trust and cooperation. In terms of security, a community will realize the lasting peace of the region. The three economies of China, Japan, and the ROK account for a vast majority of Northeast Asia＇s regional economy. China and the ROK are two key players in the Northeast Asian community building. China-ROK cooperation will be helpful for China-Japan relations that now appear to be in a difficult situation. Northeast Asian economic cooperation has developed into a multi-layered structure both in institutional and non-institutional ways. In order to build the Northeast Asian community, those three countries must first improve and make three close bilateral relationships. However, Northeast Asian community building should not just include China, Japan, and the ROK. The DPRK, Mongolia, and also Russia should be engaged as early as possible. Northeast Asian community is a vision and also a dream that needs great efforts to be realized by both a good spirit and real actions.

The Effect of Training Package Development for Secondary School Students in Thailand Toward ASEAN Community

The purposes of this research were： （1） to create a training package to prepare secondary school students in northeastern of Thailand toward ASEAN （Association of Southeast Asian Nations） Community; （2） to compare the knowledge of secondary school students toward ASEAN before and after use training package; and （3） the expectations of the students in the northeast of their own preparation for the ASEAN community. Experimental research was used in this research. The subject was including 2,000 students who were randomly divided into groups of seven provinces. The statistics used in data analysis were percentage, average, standard deviation, and T-test. The research results showed that： （1） a training package to prepare secondary school students in northeastern of Thailand toward ASEAN Community, the effectiveness index （E.I.） was .57, according to the established criteria; （2） a comparison of pretest and post-test results found the use of cognitive training may vary, statistically significant at the .05 level; （3） an expectation of the secondary school students in the preparation of role into ASEAN Community found that the students who participated in a concept reflect that the knowledge and attitudes to prepare themselves for the ASEAN community.

A Critical Inquiry into the Concept of East Asia （China, Japan, Korea） of the Past Centuries： In the Context of Asia＇s Image

In East Asia---China, Japan and Korea^there has always existed both a desire and hope for regional integration. Europe has been, and remains, a symbolic model of regional integration at political, economic, social and cultural levels. The hope to achieve a similar regional community has provided the momentum and impetus to think about a more general idea of East Asia： An idea that might substantiate the entire region＇s future prospects. Previously, East Asia has not been overly successful at generating any knowledge or understanding of its own identity. It is therefore necessary to conduct an inquiry into the concept of East Asia. The complexity of knowledge about East Asia should be clarified. This paper interprets the concept of East Asia in past centuries, explains how people conceptualized East Asia in the broader context of the continent and evaluates its characteristic features.
