The results showed that the short-term total effective rate in the group of drug acupoint application was higher than that in the group of traditional crude herb moxibustion, the therapeutic effects of drug acupoint application being closely related to differential types. Analysis also shows the best short-term therapeutic effect was in the type of heat in the lung while the poorest effect in the type of deficiency of the kidney-yang.展开更多
In June 1994, asthma plaster was developed, which has proved effective in the treatment of cold-type asthma by applying it on some acupoints, which are known to be good for asthma.

The novel concept of the unique airway diseases its only supported by the similarities within pathogenetic process. Antagonists of H1 and H2 receptors are quite effective in allergic rhinitis, but not effective enough in asthma. In an era of corticosteroids, leucotriene antagonists and Anti-IgE treatment, there is still a challenge to search for more effective, more acurate and more safe treatment option. Antagonists (inversive agonists) of histamine receptors H4 seems to be one of the promising targets in the allergic rhinitis and asthma treatment. The first H4 antagonist entered to clinics and the results from a proof-of-concept Phase II clinical study is expected to be disclosed soon. This review article summarizes current knowledge on H4R that have been collected in various studies sharing evidences about efficacy of H4R as a reasonable target for diseases with histamine involved pathogenetic pathways.展开更多

However, long period of hormone administration will result in general side effects in the whole body as well as hormone dependence, which has now become a hard problem for physicians. Now a non-hormone medication of immunosuppressant has been chosen in western medicine to treat asthma as a replacement or partial replacement of hormone. Nevertheless, its therapeutic effect is not reliable and its side effects severe, hence hardly acceptable to patients. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) always adheres to the principle of holistic treatment and has a great advantage in the treatment of this disease. TCM doctors have made some trials and researches in this area and obtained some accomplishments. The following is a brief account of general researches on the treatment of asthma with TCM.展开更多

The treatment of chronic diseases with ACH often leads to its dependence; especially oral administration of ACH for a long time is liable to inhibit the function of hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenocortical-thymic axis (HPAT), and results in the hypo-reservation of adrenal cortex. Hence, sudden ACH withdrawal or decrease often causes the disease recurrence, even adrenocortical crisis. Academician Shen Ziyin has a wealth of clinical experience in both the withdrawal and reduction of ACH and the keeping of therapeutical effectiveness to form his unique remedy in the application of drugs. Shen's rich experience is described as follows.展开更多
