BACKGROUND Insomnia is a disease where individuals cannot maintain a steady and stable sleep state or fail to fall asleep.Western medicine mainly uses sedatives and hypnotic drugs to treat insomnia, and long-term use is prone to drug resistance and other adverse reactions.Acupuncture has a good curative effect and unique advantages in the treatment of insomnia.AIM To explore the molecular mechanism of acupuncture at Back-Shu point for the treatment of insomnia.METHODS We first prepared a rat model of insomnia, and then carried out acupuncture for 7 consecutive days. After treatment, the sleep time and general behavior of the rats were determined. The Morris water maze test was used to assess the learning ability and spatial memory ability of the rats. The expression levels of inflammatory cytokines in serum and the hippocampus were detected by ELISA.qRTPCR was used to detect the mRNA expression changes in the ERK/NF-κB signaling pathway.Western blot and immunohistochemistry were carried out to evaluate the protein expression levels of RAF-1,MEK-2,ERK1/2 and NF-κB.RESULTS Acupuncture can prolong sleep duration, and improve mental state, activity, diet volume, learning ability and spatial memory. In addition, acupuncture increased the release of 1L-1β,1L-6 and TNF-αin serum and the hippocampus and inhibited the mRNA and protein expression of the ERK/NF-κB signaling pathway.CONCLUSION These findings suggest that acupuncture at Back-Shu point can inhibit the ERK/NF-κB signaling pathway and treat insomnia by increasing the release of inflammatory cytokines in the hippocampus. 展开更多

Objective:To observe the effect of intradermal needle therapy on back-shu points of five zang organs in treating chronic fatigue syndrome(CFS)and provide evidence for the usage of unilateral back-shu point. Methods:Patients were randomly divided into bilateral back-shu point group, unilateral back-shu point group and non-acupoint group, remove shedding cases, each group remaining 30 patients. In bilateral back-shu point group, both sides of back-shu points of five zang organs were selected. In unilateral back-shu point group, only one side was selected, left or right alternately. The location where non-acupoint group inserted by intradermal needles were outward from the back-shu points, left or right alternately.Fatigue Scale-14(FS-14)was used to evaluate the fatigue level and the scores’improvement of physical fatigue and mental fatigue revealed the therapeutic effect on body constituents and spirits of CFS patient. Results:After the 8-week intradermal needle therapy, the total effective rate was 83.33%in the bilateral back-shu point group, which was 76.67%in the unilateral back-shu point group and 50.00%in the non-acupoint group. The curative effects of the two groups whose back-shu points of five zang organs were inserted by intradermal needles were better than the non-acupoint group(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in clinical efficacy between the bilateral back-shu point group and the unilateral back-shu point group(P>0.05).There were statistical differences in FS-14 questionnaires including total, physical and mental scores between before and after the treatment in both the two back-shu point groups(P<0.05).Only the scores of total and physical fatigue in decreased in non-acupoint group(P<0.05),which means it couldn’t help to alleviate mental fatigue statistically(P>0.05).Conclusions:(1)The intradermal needle therapy on back-shu points of five zang organs for CFS has a satisfying clinical efficacy in curing tiredness. It can help to reduce both physical and mental fatigue for the patients.Hence,it can regulate both body constituents and spirits simultaneously.(2)Needling the unilateral acupoints can get similar clinical efficacy to the bilateral points. It reveals that we can cut cost by reducing the consumption of the amount of intradermal needles used on one side.(3)Both the groups of back-shu points get better clinical efficacy than the non-acupoint group dramatically. The reason of why the intradermal needle can treat CFS maybe that back-shu points of five zang organs can regulate the functions of five zang organs characteristically. 展开更多

Objective To observe the clinical therapeutic effect on insomnia treated with acupuncture at back-shu points. Methods Sixty-four cases of insomnia were selected and divided randomly into a back-shu points group (group A) and a conventional acupoints group (group B) by a computer generated allocation list, 32 cases in each one. In the trial group, acupuncture was applied at xinshu (心俞 15), Ganshu (刊俞 18), Pishu (脾俞 BL 20) and Geshu (膈俞 BL 17). In the control group, acupuncture was applied conventionally to Neiguan (内关 PC 6), Shenmen (神门 HT 7), Sanyinjiao (三阴交 SP 6), Baihui (百会 GV 20) and Sishencong (四神聪 EX-HN 2). Ten treatments made a session. The efficacy was analyzed statistically after 3 sessions of treatment. Results There were significant differences between the two groups in the relief of sleep disorders after the treatment (P〈0.O2). The improvement in sleep efficiency was different significantly (P〈0.05). The difference in sleep difficulty was significant in Chinese medicine (TCM) symptom score (P〈0.05). Conclusion The clinical efficacy is achieved by either acupuncture at back-shu points or by acupuncture at conventional acupoints. The improvements of sleep efficiency and sleep disorder scores in PSO.I, and sleep difficulty in TCM as well as the long-term efficacy are superior in group A as compared with those in group B. 展开更多

Objective: To observe the clinical efficacy of acupuncture on back-shu points of five zang in treating chronic fatigue syndrome(CFS).Methods: Sixty patients were randomized into treatment group and control group. In treatment group, the back-shu points of five zang organs were adopted for acupuncture. Shènshū(肾俞 BL23) was perpendicularly needled 15-30 mm in depth. The rest of the selected points were inserted obliquely 15-30 mm in the direction of the spine with even method of lifting-thrusting and twisting-twirling, 10 s for each acupoint. In control group, the acupoints were approximately 1.5-2 cm away outward from the back-shu points of five zang organs(about on the middle of the two sidelines of the bladder meridian of foottaiyang) and the points from the bladder meridian of foot-taiyang were excluded. Acupoints were needled6-9 mm in depth, and deqi was not required, without any manipulation. The treatments were carried out twice a week for twenty minutes each time, a total of eight treatments were given. The clinical efficacy of acupuncture treatment for CFS was evaluated through the Fatigue Scale-14(FS-14) and the Symptom Check-List 90(SCL-90) after treatment. Results: The total effective rate was 86.67% in the treatment group and 53.33% in the control group(P<0.01). In treatment group, FS-14 total scores, somatic fatigue scores, and mental fatigue scores were significantly reduced than before treatment(all P<0.01). In control group, FS-14 total scores and somatic fatigue scores were significantly reduced(both P<0.01). The improvement of FS-14 total scores, somatic fatigue scores, and mental fatigue scores in the treatment group were better than those in the control group(P<0.01, P<0.05). After treatment, SCL-90 total scores and somatization, compulsion, interpersonal sensitivity, depression, anxiety, hostility, psychoticism, and other factors scores were significantly reduced in the treatment group compared with before treatment(P<0.01). In control group, the SCL-90 total scores and the scores of somatization, compulsion, hostility, and other factors after treatment were lower than those before treatment(P< 0.01). The total scores of SCL-90 and somatization, compulsion, interpersonal sensitivity, depression, anxiety, psychoticism, and other factors in the treatment group were significantly lower than those in the control group(P< 0.01, P< 0.05).Conclusions: Acupuncture on back-shu points of five zang can significantly improve the somatic fatigue and mental fatigue of the patients, and at the same time improve their psychological status. Significant therapeutic effect was found on CFS. Compared with the control group, the acupuncture treatment can significantly improve the patient’s somatic fatigue, mental fatigue and psychological status. 展开更多

By virtue of rich academic experience, professor JIA Chun-sheng can change the treatment method during clinical practice and implement different therapies according to the diseases, thus he can obtain effective and rapid results. In this study, the theoretical knowledge, application method and clinical experience of professor JIA Chun-sheng in blooddraining therapy on the back were mainly introduced. Professor JIA Chun-sheng focuses on two key viewpoints: "Attacking pathogenic qi is to supplement deficiency," and "Eliminating stagnant pathogen can clean the intestines and stomach, and removing concretions and conglomerations can harmonize Fing and wei", which have been considered as the important theoretical bases of direction of clinical practice. Generally, professor JIA Chun-sheng conducts blood-draining therapy at Dazhui (大椎 GV 14), Feishu (肺俞 BL 13), Xinshu (心俞 BL 15), Geshu (膈俞 BL 17), Ganshu (肝俞 BL 18), Pishu (脾俞 BE 20) and Shenshu (肾俞 BL 23) on the back in order to improve the blood circulation in local and corresponding zong-fu organs, thus being beneficial to harmonize qi and blood, or eliminate dampness, heat, wind, stasis and toxins. In the process of blood-draining, professor JIA Chun-sheng combines the blood-draining pen with vacuum cup to replace the traditional blood-draining tools, which makes the blooddraining therapy easy to learn and use. 展开更多
