A nonparametric structural damage detection methodology based on neuralnetworks method is presented for health monitoring of structure-unknown systems. In this approachappropriate neural networks are trained by use of the modal test data from a 'healthy' structure. The trained networks which are subsequently fed with vibration measurements from the same structurein different stages have the capability of recognizing the location and the content of structuraldamage and thereby can monitor the health of the structure. A modified back-propagation neuralnetwork is proposed to solve the two practical problems encountered by the traditionalback-propagation method, i.e., slow learning progress and convergence to a false local minimum.Various training algorithms, types of the input layer and numbers of the nodes in the input layerare considered. Numerical example results from a 5-degree-of-freedom spring-mass structure andanalyses on the experimental data of an actual 5-storey-steel-frame demonstrate thatneural-networks-based method is a robust procedure and a practical tool for the detection ofstructural damage, and that the modified back-propagation algorithm could improve the computationalefficiency as well as the accuracy of detection. 展开更多

A back-propagation neural network (BPNN) was used to establish relationships between the shortrange (0-3-h) rainfall and the predictors ranging from extrapolative forecasts of radar reflectivity, satelliteestimated cloud-top temperature, lightning strike rates, and Nested Grid Model (NGM) outputs. Quan- titative precipitation forecasts (QPF) and the probabilities of categorical precipitation were obtained. Results of the BPNN algorithm were compared to the results obtained from the multiple linear regression algorithm for an independent dataset from the 1999 warm season over the continental United States. A sample forecast was made over the southeastern United States. Results showed that the BPNN categorical rainfall forecasts agreed well with Stage Ⅲ observations in terms of the size and shape of the area of rainfall. The BPNN tended to over-forecast the spatial extent of heavier rainfall amounts, but the positioning of the areas with rainfall ≥25.4 mm was still generally accurate. It appeared that the BPNN and linear regression approaches produce forecasts of very similar quality, although in some respects BPNN slightly outperformed the regression. 展开更多

This paper presents a back-propagation neural network model for sound quality prediction (BPNN-SQP) of multiple working conditions’ vehicle interior noise. According to the standards and regulations, four kinds of vehicle interior noises under operating conditions, including idle, constant speed, accelerating and braking, are acquired. The objective psychoacoustic parameters and subjective annoyance results are respectively used as the input and output of the BPNN-SQP model. With correlation analysis and significance test, some psychoacoustic parameters, such as loudness, A-weighted sound pressure level, roughness, articulation index and sharpness, are selected for modeling. The annoyance values of unknown noise samples estimated by the BPNN-SQP model are highly correlated with the subjective annoyances. Conclusion can be drawn that the proposed BPNN-SQP model has good generalization ability and can be applied in sound quality prediction of vehicle interior noise under multiple working conditions. 展开更多

In the non-linear microwave drying process, the incremental improved back-propagation (BP) neural network and response surface methodology (RSM) were used to build a predictive model of the combined effects of independent variables (the microwave power, the acting time and the rotational frequency) for microwave drying of selenium-rich slag. The optimum operating conditions obtained from the quadratic form of the RSM are:the microwave power of 14.97 kW,the acting time of 89.58 min,the rotational frequency of 10.94 Hz,and the temperature of 136.407 °C.The relative dehydration rate of 97.1895% is obtained.Under the optimum operating conditions, the incremental improved BP neural network prediction model can predict the drying process results and different effects on the results of the independent variables. The verification experiments demonstrate the prediction accuracy of the network, and the mean squared error is 0.16.The optimized results indicate that RSM can optimize the experimental conditions within much more broad range by considering the combination of factors and the neural network model can predict the results effectively and provide the theoretical guidance for the follow-up production process. 展开更多

In this work, datasets of water and carbon fluxes measured with eddy covariance technique above a summer maize field in the North China Plain were simulated with artificial neural networks (ANNs) to explore the fluxes responses to local environmental variables. The results showed that photosynthetically active radiation (PAR), vapor pressure deficit (VPD), air temperature (T) and leaf area index (LAI) were primary factors regulating both water vapor and carbon dioxide fluxes. Three-layer back-propagation neural networks (BP) could be applied to model fluxes exchange between cropland surface and atmosphere without using detailed physiological information or specific parameters of the plant. 展开更多

With the continuous increase in the proportional use of wind energy across the globe, the reduction of power generation efficiency and safety hazards caused by the icing on wind turbine blades have attracted more consideration for research. Therefore,it is crucial to accurately analyze the thickness of icing on wind turbine blades, which can serve as a basis for formulating corresponding control measures and ensure a safe and stable operation of wind turbines in winter times and/or in high altitude areas. This paper fully utilized the advantages of the support vector machine(SVM)and back-propagation neural network(BPNN),with the incorporation of particle swarm optimization(PSO)algorithms to optimize the parameters of the SVM.The paper proposes a hybrid assessment model of PSO-SVM and BPNN based on dynamic weighting rules.Three sets of icing data under a rotating working state of the wind turbine were used as examples for model verification.Based on a comparative analysis with other models, the results showed that the proposed model has better accuracy and stability in analyzing the icing on wind turbine blades. 展开更多

To reduce typhoon-caused damages, numerical and empirical methods are often used to forecast typhoon storm surge. However, typhoon surge is a complex nonlinear process that is difficult to forecast accurately. We applied a principal component back-propagation neural network (PCBPNN) to predict the deviation in typhoon storm surge, in which data of the typhoon, upstream flood, and historical case studies were involved. With principal component analysis, 15 input factors were reduced to five principal components, and the application of the model was improved. Observation data from Huangpu Park in Shanghai, China were used to test the feasibility of the model. The results indicate that the model is capable of predicting a 12-hour warning before a typhoon surge. 展开更多

Pre-dehumidification time(τ_(pre))and pre-dehumidification energy consumption(E_(pre))play important roles in preventing the condensation of moisture on the floors of rooms that use a radiant floor cooling(RFC)system. However, there are few theoretical or experimental studies that focus on these two important quantities. In this study,an artificial neural network(ANN)was used to predict condensation risk for the integration of RFC systems with mixed ventilation(MV),stratum ventilation(SV),and displacement ventilation(DV)systems.A genetic algorithm-back-propagation(GA-BP)neural network model was established to predict τ_(pre) and E_(pre).Both training data and validation data were obtained from tests in a computational fluid dynamics(CFD)simulation. The results show that the established GA-BP model can predict τ_(pre) and E_(pre) well. The coefficient of determination(R^(2))of τ_(pre) and of E_(pre) were,respectively,0.973 and 0.956.For an RFC system integrated with an MV,SV,or DV system, the lowest values of τ_(pre) and E_(pre) were with the DV system,23.1 s and 0.237 kWh,respectively, for a 67.5 m^(3) room. Therefore, the best pre-dehumidification effect was with integration of the DV and RFC systems. This study showed that an ANN-based method can be used for predictive control for condensation prevention in RFC systems. It also provides a novel and effective method by which to assess the pre-dehumidification control of radiant floor surfaces. 展开更多

Optical neural networks have significant advantages in terms of power consumption, parallelism, and high computing speed, which has intrigued extensive attention in both academic and engineering communities. It has been considered as one of the powerful tools in promoting the fields of imaging processing and object recognition. However, the existing optical system architecture cannot be reconstructed to the realization of multi-functional artificial intelligence systems simultaneously. To push the development of this issue,we propose the pluggable diffractive neural networks(P-DNN),a general paradigm resorting to the cascaded metasurfaces, which can be applied to recognize various tasks by switching internal plug-ins.As the proof-of-principle,the recognition functions of six types of handwritten digits and six types of fashions are numerical simulated and experimental demonstrated at near-infrared regimes.Encouragingly, the proposed paradigm not only improves the flexibility of the optical neural networks but paves the new route for achieving high-speed,low-power and versatile artificial intelligence systems. 展开更多

Accurate prediction of the heat load is the basic premise of intelligent regulation of the heating system, which helps to realize effective management of heating, ventilation, air conditioning system. For the problem that the weight of each influencing factor is not taken into account in the current heat load prediction and is not highly targeted, this article deeply explores the influence of different factors on the room heat load, and we propose a method to calculate room heat load prediction based on the combination of analytic hierarchy process(AHP)and back-propagation(BP)neural network.Firstly, eight environmental factors affecting the heat load are selected as prediction inputs through parametric analysis, and then the weights of each input are determined by AHP and normalize the prediction data by combining expert opinions, and finally do one-to-one training the quantified score and the room heat load to predict the future heat load by BP neural network. The simulation tests show that the mean absolute relative error(MARE)of the proposed prediction method is 5.40%.This article also verifies the influence of different expert opinions on the stability of the model. The results show that the proposed method can guarantee higher prediction accuracy and stability. 展开更多

A short-term wind power prediction method is proposed in this paper with experimental results obtained from a wind farm located in Northeast China. In order to improve the accuracy of the prediction method using a traditional back-propagation(BP)neural network algorithm, the improved grey wolf optimization(IGWO)algorithm has been adopted to optimize its parameters. The performance of the proposed method has been evaluated by experiments.First, the features of the wind farm are described to show the fundamental information of the experiments.A single turbine with rated power of 1500 kW and power generation coefficient of 2.74 in the wind farm was introduced to show the technical details of the turbines.Original wind power data of the whole farm were preprocessed by using the quartile method to remove the abnormal data points. Then, the retained wind power data were predicted and analysed by using the proposed IGWO-BP algorithm.Analysis of the results proves the practicability and efficiency of the prediction model. Results show that the average accuracy of prediction is~11%greater than the traditional BP method. In this way,the proposed wind power prediction method can be adopted to improve the accuracy of prediction and to ensure the effective utilization of wind energy. 展开更多

Graph Convolutional Neural Networks(GCNs)have been widely used in various fields due to their powerful capabilities in processing graph-structured data. However,GCNs encounter significant challenges when applied to scale-free graphs with power-law distributions, resulting in substantial distortions. Moreover, most of the existing GCN models are shallow structures, which restricts their ability to capture dependencies among distant nodes and more refined high-order node features in scale-free graphs with hierarchical structures. To more broadly and precisely apply GCNs to real-world graphs exhibiting scale-free or hierarchical structures and utilize multi-level aggregation of GCNs for capturing high-level information in local representations,we propose the Hyperbolic Deep Graph Convolutional Neural Network(HDGCNN),an end-to-end deep graph representation learning framework that can map scale-free graphs from Euclidean space to hyperbolic space. In HDGCNN,we define the fundamental operations of deep graph convolutional neural networks in hyperbolic space.Additionally,we introduce a hyperbolic feature transformation method based on identity mapping and a dense connection scheme based on a novel non-local message passing framework. In addition,we present a neighborhood aggregation method that combines initial structural featureswith hyperbolic attention coefficients.Through the above methods,HDGCNN effectively leverages both the structural features and node features of graph data, enabling enhanced exploration of non-local structural features and more refined node features in scale-free or hierarchical graphs.Experimental results demonstrate that HDGCNN achieves remarkable performance improvements over state-ofthe-art GCNs in node classification and link prediction tasks, even when utilizing low-dimensional embedding representations.Furthermore, when compared to shallow hyperbolic graph convolutional neural network models,HDGCNN exhibits notable advantages and performance enhancements. 展开更多

Artificial neural networks(ANNs)have led to landmark changes in many fields, but they still differ significantly fromthemechanisms of real biological neural networks and face problems such as high computing costs, excessive computing power, and so on.Spiking neural networks(SNNs)provide a new approach combined with brain-like science to improve the computational energy efficiency, computational architecture, and biological credibility of current deep learning applications. In the early stage of development, its poor performance hindered the application of SNNs in real-world scenarios. In recent years,SNNs have made great progress in computational performance and practicability compared with the earlier research results, and are continuously producing significant results.Although there are already many pieces of literature on SNNs,there is still a lack of comprehensive review on SNNs from the perspective of improving performance and practicality as well as incorporating the latest research results.Starting from this issue, this paper elaborates on SNNs along the complete usage process of SNNs including network construction, data processing, model training, development, and deployment, aiming to provide more comprehensive and practical guidance to promote the development of SNNs.Therefore, the connotation and development status of SNNcomputing is reviewed systematically and comprehensively from four aspects:composition structure, data set, learning algorithm,software/hardware development platform. Then the development characteristics of SNNs in intelligent computing are summarized, the current challenges of SNNs are discussed and the future development directions are also prospected. Our research shows that in the fields of machine learning and intelligent computing,SNNs have comparable network scale and performance to ANNs and the ability to challenge large datasets and a variety of tasks. The advantages of SNNs over ANNs in terms of energy efficiency and spatial-temporal data processing have been more fully exploited. And the development of programming and deployment tools has lowered the threshold for the use of SNNs.SNNs show a broad development prospect for brain-like computing. 展开更多

Convolutional neural networks struggle to accurately handle changes in angles and twists in the direction of images, which affects their ability to recognize patterns based on internal feature levels. In contrast, CapsNet overcomesthese limitations by vectorizing information through increased directionality and magnitude, ensuring that spatialinformation is not overlooked. Therefore, this study proposes a novel expression recognition technique calledCAPSULE-VGG, which combines the strengths of CapsNet and convolutional neural networks. By refining andintegrating features extracted by a convolutional neural network before introducing theminto CapsNet, ourmodelenhances facial recognition capabilities. Compared to traditional neural network models, our approach offersfaster training pace, improved convergence speed, and higher accuracy rates approaching stability. Experimentalresults demonstrate that our method achieves recognition rates of 74.14% for the FER2013 expression dataset and99.85% for the CK+ expression dataset. By contrasting these findings with those obtained using conventionalexpression recognition techniques and incorporating CapsNet’s advantages, we effectively address issues associatedwith convolutional neural networks while increasing expression identification accuracy. 展开更多

Recent advances in deep neural networks have shed new light on physics, engineering, and scientific computing.Reconciling the data-centered viewpoint with physical simulation is one of the research hotspots. The physicsinformedneural network(PINN)is currently the most general framework, which is more popular due to theconvenience of constructing NNs and excellent generalization ability. The automatic differentiation(AD)-basedPINN model is suitable for the homogeneous scientific problem;however,it is unclear how AD can enforce fluxcontinuity across boundaries between cells of different properties where spatial heterogeneity is represented bygrid cells with different physical properties. In this work,we propose a criss-cross physics-informed convolutionalneural network(CC-PINN)learning architecture, aiming to learn the solution of parametric PDEs with spatialheterogeneity of physical properties. To achieve the seamless enforcement of flux continuity and integration ofphysicalmeaning into CNN,a predefined 2D convolutional layer is proposed to accurately express transmissibilitybetween adjacent cells. The efficacy of the proposedmethodwas evaluated through predictions of several petroleumreservoir problems with spatial heterogeneity and compared against state-of-the-art(PINN)through numericalanalysis as a benchmark, which demonstrated the superiority of the proposed method over the PINN. 展开更多

Software security analysts typically only have access to the executable program and cannot directly access the source code of the program. This poses significant challenges to security analysis. While it is crucial to identify vulnerabilities in such non-source code programs, there exists a limited set of generalized tools due to the low versatility of current vulnerability mining methods. However, these tools suffer from some shortcomings. In terms of targeted fuzzing, the path searching for target points is not streamlined enough, and the completely random testing leads to an excessively large search space.Additionally, when it comes to code similarity analysis, there are issues with incomplete code feature extraction, which may result in information loss.In this paper,we propose a cross-platform and cross-architecture approach to exploit vulnerabilities using neural network obfuscation techniques.By leveraging the Angr framework,a deobfuscation technique is introduced, along with the adoption of a VEX-IR-based intermediate language conversion method. This combination allows for the unified handling of binary programs across various architectures, compilers, and compilation options.Subsequently, binary programs are processed to extract multi-level spatial features using a combination of a skip-gram model with self-attention mechanism and a bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory(LSTM)network. Finally, the graph embedding network is utilized to evaluate the similarity of program functionalities.Based on these similarity scores,a target function is determined, and symbolic execution is applied to solve the target function. The solved content serves as the initial seed for targeted fuzzing. The binary program is processed by using the de-obfuscation technique and intermediate language transformation method, and then the similarity of program functions is evaluated by using a graph embedding network, and symbolic execution is performed based on these similarity scores. This approach facilitates cross-architecture analysis of executable programs without their source codes and concurrently reduces the risk of symbolic execution path explosion. 展开更多

The lethal brain tumor “Glioblastoma” has the propensity to grow over time. To improve patient outcomes, it is essential to classify GBM accurately and promptly in order to provide a focused and individualized treatment plan. Despite this, deep learning methods, particularly Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), have demonstrated a high level of accuracy in a myriad of medical image analysis applications as a result of recent technical breakthroughs. The overall aim of the research is to investigate how CNNs can be used to classify GBMs using data from medical imaging, to improve prognosis precision and effectiveness. This research study will demonstrate a suggested methodology that makes use of the CNN architecture and is trained using a database of MRI pictures with this tumor. The constructed model will be assessed based on its overall performance.
