This paper discusses a queueing system with a retrial orbit and batch service, in which the quantity of customers’ rooms in the queue is finite and the space of retrial orbit is infinite. When the server starts serving, it serves all customers in the queue in a single batch, which is the so-called batch service. If a new customer or a retrial customer finds all the customers’ rooms are occupied, he will decide whether or not to join the retrial orbit. By using the censoring technique and the matrix analysis method, we first obtain the decay function of the stationary distribution for the quantity of customers in the retrial orbit and the quantity of customers in the queue. Then based on the form of decay rate function and the Karamata Tauberian theorem, we finally get the exact tail asymptotics of the stationary distribution. 展开更多

It has a storage vessel at the top and products leave the column at the bottom. The batch stripper is favourable to separate mixtures with a small amount of light components by removing the heavy components as bottom products. In this paper, we are presenting a shortcut procedure based on our earlier work for design and simulation of the inverted batch distillation column, which is equivalent to the Fenske-Underwood-Gilliland procedure for continuous distillation. Given a separation task, we propose to compute the minimum number of stages(Nbmin) and the minimum reboil ratio(Rbmin) required in a batch stripper,which are the stages and reboil ratio required in a hypothetical inverted batch distillation column operating in total reboil ratio or having an infinite number of stages, respectively. Then, it is shown that the performance of inverted batch columns with a finite number of stages and reboil ratios could be correlated in Gilliland coordinates with the minimum stages Nbmin and the minimum reboil ratio Rbmin. 展开更多

Nitrogen removal from synthetic wastewater was investigated in an airlift bioreactor (ALB), augmented with a novel heterotrophic nitrifier Pseudonocardia ammonioxydans H9^T under organic carbon to nitrogen ratios (Corg/N) ranging from 0 to 12. Effect of the inoculated strain was also determined on the settling properties and the removal of chemical oxygen demand (COD). Two laboratory scale reactors were set up to achieve a stable nitrifying state under the same physicochemical conditions of hydraulic retention time (HRT), temperature, pH and dissolved oxygen (DO), and operated under the sequencing batch mode. The level of DO was kept at 0.5- 1.5 mg/L by periodic stirring and aeration. Each specific Corg/N ratio was continued for duration of 3 weeks. One of the reactors (BR2) was inoculated with P ammonioxydans H9^T periodically at the start of each Corg/N ratio. Sludge volumetric index (SVI) improved with the increasing Corg/N ratio, but no significant difference was detected between the two reactors. BR2 showed higher levels of nitrogen removal with the increasing heterotrophic conditions, and the ammonia removal reached to the level of 82%-88%, up to10% higher than that in the control reactor (BR1) at Corg/N ratios higher than 6; however, the ammonia removal level in experimental reactor was up to 8% lower than that in control reactor at Corg/N ratios lower than 2. The COD removal efficiency progressively increased with the increasing Corg/N ratios in both of the reactors. The COD removal percentage up to peak values of 88%-94% in BR2, up to 11% higher than that in BR1 at Corg/N ratio higher than 4. The peak values of ammonia and COD removal almost coincided with the highest number (18%-27% to total bacterial number) of the exogenous bacterium in the BR2, detected as colony forming units (CFU). Furthermore, the removal of ammonia and COD in BR2 was closely related to the number of the inoculated strain with a coefficient index (R2) up to 0.82 and 0.85 for ammonia and COD, respectively. These results suggest that it was more efficient for both the ammonia and carbon nutrient removals in a reactor inoculated with a heterotrophic nitrifier at high Corg/N ratio, inferring that the heterotrophic nitrifers would be practically more available in the treatment of wastewater with high level of ammonia and COD. 展开更多

Simultaneous biological phosphorus and nitrogen removal with enhanced anoxic phosphate uptake via nitrite was investigated in an anaerobic-aerobic-anoxic-aerobic sequencing batch reactor((AO)2 SBR). The system showed stable phosphorus and nitrogen removal performance, and average removals for COD, TN and TP were 90%, 91% and 96%, respectively. The conditions of pH 7.5—8.0 and temperature 32℃ were found detrimental to nitrite oxidation bacteria but favorable to ammonia oxidizers, and the corresponding specific oxygen uptake rates(SOUR) for phase 1 and 2 of nitrification process were 0.7 and 15 mgO 2/(gVSS·h) in respect, which led to the nitrite accumulation in aerobic phase of(AO)2 SBR. Respiratory tests showed that 40 mgNO 2-N/L did not deteriorate the sludge activity drastically, and it implied that exposure of sludge to nitrite periodically enabled the biomass to have more tolerance capacity to resist the restraining effects from nitrite. In addition, batch tests were carried out and verified that denitrifying phosphorus accumulation organisms(DPAOs) could be enriched in a single sludge system coexisting with nitrifiers by introducing an anoxic phase in an anaerobic-aerobic SBR, and the ratio of the anoxic phosphate uptake capacity to aerobic phosphate uptake capacity was 45%. It was also found that nitrite(up to 20 mgNO 2-N/L) was not inhibitory to anoxic phosphate uptake and could serve as an electron acceptor like nitrate, but presented poorer efficiency compared with nitrate. 展开更多

The SBR was operated in the mode of 4 h for aeration, 3.5 h for stirring without aeration, 0.5 h for settling and drainage, and 4 h of idle. The sludge was acclimated by running the system to achieve a stable running state as chemical oxygen demand, NO2^-, NO3^-, NH4^+, pH, and N2O. indicated by rhythmic changes of total N, dissolved oxygen, Under the present experimental conditions measured nitrous oxide emitted from the off-gas in the aerobic and anaerobic phases, respectively, accounted for 8.6%-16.1% and 0-0.05% of N removed, indicating that the aerobic phase was the main source of N2O emission from the system. N2O dissolved in discharged water was considerable in term of concentration. Thus, measures to be developed for the purpose of reducing N2O emission from the system should be effective in the aeration phase. 展开更多

Based on the two-dimensional (2D) system theory, an integrated predictive iterative learning control (2D-IPILC) strategy for batch processes is presented. First, the output response and the error transition model predictions along the batch index can be calculated analytically due to the 2D Roesser model of the batch process. Then, an integrated framework of combining iterative learning control (ILC) and model predictive control (MPC) is formed reasonably. The output of feedforward ILC is estimated on the basis of the predefined process 2D model. By min- imizing a quadratic objective function, the feedback MPC is introduced to obtain better control performance for tracking problem of batch processes. Simulations on a typical batch reactor demonstrate that the satisfactory tracking performance as well as faster convergence speed can be achieved than traditional proportion type (P- t-we) ILC despite the model error and disturbances. 展开更多

Composition estimation plays very important role in plant operation and control.Extended Kalman filter(EKF) is one of the most common estimators,which has been used in composition estimation of reactive batch distillation,but its performance is heavily dependent on the thermodynamic modeling of vapor-liquid equilibrium,which is difficult to initialize and tune.In this paper an inferential state estimation scheme based on adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system(ANFIS) ,which is a model base estimator,is employed for composition estimation by using temperature measurements in multicomponent reactive batch distillation.The state estimator is supported by data from a complete dynamic model that includes component and energy balance equations accompanied with thermodynamic relations and reaction kinetics.The mathematical model is verified by pilot plant data.The simulation results show that the ANFIS estimator provides reliable and accurate estimation for component concentrations in reactive batch distillation.The estimated states form a basis for improving the performance of reactive batch distillation either through decision making of an operator or through an automatic closed-loop control scheme. 展开更多

It is shown in this article that by changing the initial operation condition of the batch processes, the dynamic performance of the system can be varied largely, especially for the initial operational temperature of the exothermic reaction. The initial operation condition is often ignored in the designing batch processes for flexibility against disturbances or parameter variations. When the initial condition is not rigid as in the case of a batch reactor, where the initial reaction temperature is quite arbitrary, optimization can also be applied to determine the "best" initial condition to use. Problems for dynamic flexibility analysis of exothermic reaction including initial temperature and process operation can be formulated as dynamic optimization problems. Formulations are derived when the initial conditions are considered or not. When the initial conditions are considered, the initial condition can be transferred into control variables in the first optimal step. The solution of the dynamic optimization is on the basis of Rugge-Kutta integration algorithm and decomposition search algorithm. This method, as illustrated and tested with two highly nonlinear process problems, enables the determination of the optimal level. The dynamic performance is improved by the proposed method in the two exothermic reaction examples. 展开更多

Determination of the optimal model parameters for biochemical systems is a time consuming iterative process. In this study, a novel hybrid differential evolution (DE) algorithm based on the differential evolution technique and a local search strategy is developed for solving kinetic parameter estimation problems. By combining the merits of DE with Gauss-Newton method, the proposed hybrid approach employs a DE algorithm for identifying promising regions of the solution space followed by use of Gauss-Newton method to determine the optimum in the identified regions. Some well-known benchmark estimation problems are utilized to test the efficiency and the robustness of the proposed algorithm compared to other methods in literature. The comparison indicates that the present hybrid algorithm outperforms other estimation techniques in terms of the global searching ability and the con- vergence speed. Additionally, the estimation of kinetic model parameters for a feed batch fermentor is carried out to test the applicability of the proposed algorithm. The result suggests that the method can be used to estimate suitable values of model oarameters for a comolex mathematical model. 展开更多

Synthetic dyes are substances that are relatively stable and difficult to degrade in wastewater treatment plants using normal physical,chemical or / and biological treatment. The present work explored the synergistic effect of non-thermal plasma( NTP) and biological wastewater treatment technologies on practical dye wastewater degradation by establishing a double dielectric barrier discharge( DDBD) system combined with a sequencing batch reactor( SBR) system. The biodegradation and degradation efficiency of the DDBD-SBR system was investigated. The investigation results indicated that the DDBD technology was effective in treating the practical dye wastewater as a pre-treatment process. After a 10-min treatment,although the total organic carbon( TOC) removal efficiency was not so significant, the decolouration and the biodegradation were improved greatly. The microbial toxicity test revealed that the sample after degradation became less toxic than the original dye,which demonstrated the treatment had a significant effect on the reduction of toxicity. In addition,the SBR technology remedied the defects of DDBD treatment and improved TOC removal efficiency noticeably. The hybrid DDBD-SBR system made full use of the advantages of the individual technologies and exhibited an efficient capability for practical dye wastewater treatment. 展开更多

This study covers the transportation of Cu(Ⅱ) ions by multi-dropped liquid membrane(MDLM) system and tri-noctylamine(TNOA) as carrier in kerosene. Batch experiments are held to obtain optimum conditions for the transportation of Cu(Ⅱ) ions such as volume of donor, organic, and acceptor phase 100 ml, pH of donor phase9.00, temperature 298.15 K, concentration of H2SO4 in acceptor phase 1.00 mol·L^-1, concentration of TNOA in organic phase 5.00 × 10^-3mol·L^-1and rate of peristaltic pump 50 ml·min^-1. Optimum circumstances of this extraction are as follows: pH of donor phase is 9.00, concentration of TNOA is 5.00 × 10^-3mol·L^-1,1.00 mol·L^-1H2SO4 as acceptor phase, and flux rate is 50 ml·min^-1. Cu(Ⅱ) ion transportation is consecutive first order irreversible reaction. Activation energy is found as 5.22 kcal·mol^-1(21.82 kJ·mol^-1, this process is called as diffusion controlled system. Selective transportation of Cu(Ⅱ) ions with alkaline, alkaline earth, and different heavy metal ions at optimum conditions of single Cu(Ⅱ) extraction was conducted. According to the selective transportation Cu(Ⅱ) ions with alkaline and alkaline earth metal ions, Na^+, K^+, and Ba^2+ions are not detected in the acceptor phase, but 12.00% of Ca-(2+)ions is transported from donor phase to acceptor phase. At the end of the simultaneous extraction of Zn(Ⅱ), Fe(Ⅲ), and Mo(Ⅵ) with Cu(Ⅱ) ions, 2.20% of Mo(Ⅵ), 0.80% of Fe(Ⅲ) and 3.60% of Zn(Ⅱ) are detected in the acceptor phase. 展开更多

Carbon footprint analysis is a method to quantify the life cycle Greenhouse Gases (GHGs) emissions and identify the measure to reduce climate change impacts. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has identified that the global warming and climate change which is one of the most important issues in the domain of environment are caused by the excessive emission of Greenhouse Gases (GHG) mainly constituting Carbon dioxide (CO2), Methane (CH4) and Nitrous oxide (N2O). The municipal wastewater treatment plant receives wastewater for treatment and finally discharges the treated effluent. The emissions of GHG during the treatment of wastewater as well as during the treatment process of sludge and also for energy generation are known to be on-site GHG emissions. Off-site GHG emissions are generated due to transportation and disposal of sludge, off-site energy and chemical production. In Puducherry, the municipal wastewater is being treated using oxidation ponds, Upflow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket (UASB) and Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR). Wastewater treatment using Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR) technology is one of the state-of-the art wastewater management systems. In this technology equalization, biological treatment and secondary clarification are performed in a single reactor in a time control sequence. The emissions of GHG from the Oxidation ponds of 12.5 MLD, UASB reactor of 2.5 MLD and SBR of 17 MLD were assessed based on the IPCC guidelines and the total emissions of GHG in terms of equivalent of CO2 were compared. The performance of the SBR is more efficient and the emissions of GHG are less than the emissions in the UASB as well as in oxidation ponds. The emission of GHG in SBR is about 60% of the existing treatment systems of oxidation ponds and UASB thus a reduction of 40% GHG emission could be achieved. 展开更多

In such enterprises, order batch , production batch and sales batch are the important factors, which affect the s atisfaction of clients, efficiency and benefit of the enterprise. It takes purch ase, production and sales into account respectively when optimizing product batc h in traditional way. However, it ignored the influences of relations between ea ch links of whole system. It is assumed that the consumption and market demand a re continuous process whereas the factual demands are batched when economic batc h is determined. So there exist some deviations between the economic batch deter mined by traditional way and that by integral optimization. Through the integral analysis of Logistics in the production system, we know that from materials are purchased, then manufactured, finally sold, the material changed in appearance and value, it still exist in different links of production system. The amount of materials occupied varies just in different status, from stock status to produc tion status, then to waiting-be-sold status, there is not any substantial chan ge in quantity until they are sold. So we must comprehensively analyze the relat ions among each link based on integral production system, to optimize the materi al batch and cut short production cycle in order to optimize the whole system. In this paper, the production system is taken as a global entity, and in which m aterials variation law and their relations of each link are analyzed; To optimiz e the whole materials flow, a new model of multi-product systems’ economic orde r batch, economic production batch and optimal sale lot multi-product syste ms’ is developed which based on the limit of capitals and stock area. 展开更多

Thanks to its light weight,low power consumption,and low price,the inertial measurement units(IMUs)have been widely used in civil and military applications such as autopilot,robotics,and tactical weapons.The calibration is an essential procedure before the IMU is put in use,which is generally used to estimate the error parameters such as the bias,installation error,scale factor of the IMU.Currently,the manual one-by-one calibration is still the mostly used manner,which is low in efficiency,time-consuming,and easy to introduce mis-operation.Aiming at this issue,this paper designs an automatic batch calibration method for a set of IMUs.The designed automatic calibration master controller can control the turntable and the data acquisition system at the same time.Each data acquisition front-end can complete data acquisition of eight IMUs one time.And various scenarios of experimental tests have been carried out to validate the proposed design,such as the multi-position tests,the rate tests and swaying tests.The results illustrate the reliability of each function module and the feasibility automatic batch calibration.Compared with the traditional calibration method,the proposed design can reduce errors caused by the manual calibration and greatly improve the efficiency of IMU calibration. 展开更多

Performance of the whole system can be improved by using patching stream to transmit anterior part of the suffix that had been played back, and by batching all the demands for the suffix arrived in prefix period and patching stream transmission threshold period.
