Study of treating tibial large bone defect with migration of lengthened bone segment in goats

Objective:To studytheeffectsof migrationof lengthenedbonesegment(MLBS)on thebloodcirculation andrepairremodelingprocessat theendsof largebonedefectof a longbone.Methods:A totalof18adultgoats wereusedand morethan35%of the originallengthof theirlefttibiawas resected.Uppermetaphysiotomyto lengthenupperpartof thetibiawas doneandthelengthenedbonesegmentwas migratedto repairthelargebone defect.TheresultswereobservedwithX-rayfilms,Chinese-inkpermeatedtransparentsectionsandhistological study.Results:AfterMLBS,thedefectendsof thetibiaweresuppliedwithabundantbloodcirculationwhich resultedin rapidandsolidlongbonehealing.Conclusion:Repairof largebonedefectof longboneswithMLBS providesa newmethodforclinicalpractice.
