The age of the volcanic rocks of the Mount Bowles Formation (MBF) on the eastern part of Livingston Island, South Shetland Islands, Antarctica is redetermined by using 40Ar/39Ar and laser microarea isochron age dating...The age of the volcanic rocks of the Mount Bowles Formation (MBF) on the eastern part of Livingston Island, South Shetland Islands, Antarctica is redetermined by using 40Ar/39Ar and laser microarea isochron age dating method with a continuous laser system and mass spectrometer. The isochron ages of an andesite sample and a basaltic andesite sample are (105.62±2.11) Ma and (111.48±2.23) Ma with the 40Ar/36Ar initial ratios of 295.3 and 294.6 respectively, being almost the same as the atmospheric value, which proves that there exists no excess argon in these rocks. The 40Ar/39Ar plateau age of an aplite sample is (96.7±1.6) Ma and the calculated isochron age is 96.6 Ma, which indicates that the aplite occurred after lava eruption. These data suggest that the MBF volcanic rocks were formed during Cretaceous.展开更多
Tibetan singing bowls emit low-frequency sounds and produce perceptible harmonic tones and vibrations through manual tapping.The sounds the singing bowls produce have been shown to enhance relaxation and reduce anxiet...Tibetan singing bowls emit low-frequency sounds and produce perceptible harmonic tones and vibrations through manual tapping.The sounds the singing bowls produce have been shown to enhance relaxation and reduce anxiety.However,the underlying mechanism remains unclear.In this study,we used chronic restraint stress or sleep deprivation to establish mouse models of anxiety that exhibit anxiety-like behaviors.We then supplied treatment with singing bowls in a bottomless cage placed on the top of a cushion.We found that unlike in humans,the combination of harmonic tones and vibrations did not improve anxietylike behaviors in mice,while individual vibration components did.Additionally,the vibration of singing bowls increased the level of N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor 1 in the somatosensory cortex and prefrontal cortex of the mice,decreased the level ofγ-aminobutyric acid A(GABA)receptorα1 subtype,reduced the level of CaMKII in the prefrontal cortex,and increased the number of GABAergic interneurons.At the same time,electrophysiological tests showed that the vibration of singing bowls significantly reduced the abnormal low-frequency gamma oscillation peak frequency in the medial prefrontal cortex caused by stress restraint pressure and sleep deprivation.Results from this study indicate that the vibration of singing bowls can alleviate anxiety-like behaviors by reducing abnormal molecular and electrophysiological events in somatosensory and medial prefrontal cortex.展开更多
To improve the efficiency of fetching and transplanting seedlings for the mechanization of strawberry planting,an integrated transplanting mechanism was designed with protruding,fetching and planting performance to ac...To improve the efficiency of fetching and transplanting seedlings for the mechanization of strawberry planting,an integrated transplanting mechanism was designed with protruding,fetching and planting performance to achieve rapid fetching and pushing bowl movements.According to the working principle of the slewing mechanism,a kinematics model and the optimization goal were established,respectively.Based on visual auxiliary analysis software,optimal parameters were obtained.A three-dimensional model was established to obtain a simulation trajectory by means of a virtual simulation design analysis.Three-dimensional printing technology was used to manufacture the test prototype,and the actual working trajectories of the test prototype were extracted using high-speed photography technology,which verified the consistency of the actual trajectory with the theoretical and simulated trajectories.A prototype transplanting experiment was performed with the success rate of seedling extraction of 91.2%and excellent planting rate of 82.8%,which met the requirements for integrated strawberry harvesting,planting and transplanting.The experimental results verified the correctness and feasibility of the design of integrated transplanting mechanism.展开更多

[Method] The lotus variety Hongxia was chosen as the experimental material. Two treatments, hydroponics and soil culture were set to measure their photosynthetic indices, chlorophyll content and root vigor, and to observe their leaf tissue structure and stomatal characteristics. [Result] The findings indicated that there are no differences in the leaf physiological indices between bowl lotus under hydroponics and soil culture, while the leaf stomata of hydroponic bowl lotus is bigger and its amount is larger than that of soil-culture bowl lotus. At the same time, the ratio of the palisade tissue thickness to spongy tissue thickness is small,and its leaf tissue structure is loose. The root vigor of hydroponic bowl lotus reached its summit earlier, then began to drop. Whereas, the root activity of soil-culture lotus sustained increasing, with vigorous growth. [Conclusion] Therefore, it indicated that hydroponic bowl lotus can adapt to the aquatic-culture environment well and quickly, meanwhile, it also enters into its aging period quickly and its growth cycle gets shorter.展开更多

Background:Injuries to the hamstring are relatively common in professional cricketers(as they are in many team sports) and have increased in incidence in the "T20 era"(introduction of 20-over matches) of cri...Background:Injuries to the hamstring are relatively common in professional cricketers(as they are in many team sports) and have increased in incidence in the "T20 era"(introduction of 20-over matches) of cricket since 2006.Methods:This study analyzed incidence of hamstring injury in the various elite male match types over a 20-year period(1995–1996 to 2014–2015seasons).Risk factors for hamstring strain were assessed using a multivariate logistic regression analysis technique.Results:There were 276 match time-loss hamstring injuries recorded over a 20-year period at the Australian state or national player level,of which170 occurred in one of 40,145 player match sets.The overall rate of match onset rate was 22.5 hamstring injuries per 1000 team days.Fast bowling onset injuries were the highest subcategory at a rate of 10.9 injuries per 1000 team days,although batting onset injuries were particularly common in 50-over(one day) international matches.Significant risk factors in logistic regression analysis,in addition to hamstring injury history,were being a fast bowler relative risk(RR) 2.5(95% confidence interval(CI):1.3–4.5) and playing a match in Australia RR 2.3(95%CI:1.3–3.9).Conclusion:Fast bowlers suffer more hamstring injuries than other playing roles in cricket,particularly in First Class(multi-day) cricket.Batsmen are more likely to get injured in 50-over(one day) cricket.Playing in Australia(compared to overseas venues) leads to increased risk of hamstring injury.展开更多

It was found that Yunnan bowl tea can adsorb strongly La(Ⅲ) and pH may affect drastically the adsorption amount of La(Ⅲ). The adsorption law of La(Ⅲ) on Yunnan bowl tea surface follows the Langmuir equation. The maximum adsorption amount of La(Ⅲ) can reach 15 mg·g (-1). The potential use of sound and vibration for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes remains largely under-explored and under-estimated.Sound and vibrational energy has great positive impact on the mind and body.It could ...The potential use of sound and vibration for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes remains largely under-explored and under-estimated.Sound and vibrational energy has great positive impact on the mind and body.It could be particularly useful for psychosomatic diseases as a complementary therapy.Singing bowls,the spiritual ancient therapy has been claimed to aid in mind relaxation and painful and inflammatory conditions.Childhood asthma is an inflammatory airway disease and a psychosomatic disorder.The psychological management in it is often neglected leading to under-treatment or a relapse.Hence,we hypothesized that sound therapy with singing bowls might be useful as complementary therapy in management of childhood asthma.We aimed to study the effect of singing bowl session on child’s asthma severity and control and on the psychological well-being.Children<18 years of age and suffering from childhood asthma were recruited after informed written consent of parents.At the baseline,demographic and clinical details were noted.Anthropometric parameters,PEFR readings,asthma severity,parental and child’s subjective feeling of well-being,asthma control score,and pediatric symptom checklist score(based on age)were determined.The child was given 15 min of singing bowl session as per the set protocol.The subjective and objective evaluation of asthma control and psychological assessment was repeated at 1 month and 3 months follow-up and compared with the baseline results for clinical significance.Eighteen children formed the study group with a mean age of 9.13±2.15 years(range 2–15.25 years).4 children had psychological issues on initial screening.There was a significant improvement in asthma severity,subjective feeling of well-being and asthma control score at 3 months(p<0.05).Singing bowl therapy could be a useful,low-cost complementary therapy in childhood asthmatics.展开更多

Therefore, human bowlers cannot bowl for extended periods and numerous mechanical bowling machines have been built to help batsmen improve their skills during practice sessions. However, most of these existing machines are designed for spherical balls ignoring the distinguishing physical feature of a cricket ball: the raised equatorial seam, which makes it less of a sphere. The bowlers are known to often benefit from this seam in their pursuit to taking the batsmen's wicket by imparting swing, spin and bounce variations along-with other bowling variables. This lack of the seam consideration creates a void between human and mechanical bowling. In this work, we present design and development of an automatic bowling machine termed as ROBOWLER to make mechanical bowling more realistic. This machine ensures ball seam position as well as fulfills other constraints. Ball pitching and seam position accuracy results underscore the suitability of this design to enhance the capabilities of mechanical bowling.展开更多

Fifty patients undergo (18 female and 32 male) aged from 21 to 79 years (m...The present study aimed to evaluate using the whole milk as alternative oral contrast for the as-sessment of gastrointestinal CT enterography. Fifty patients undergo (18 female and 32 male) aged from 21 to 79 years (mean 45 years) undergo abdominal CT at the department of diagnostic radiology of King Abdulaziz University Hospital. They receive 1 - 1.5 liter whole milk. Siemens SOMATOM definition CT Scan Machine with 64 slices and dual source was utilized to image all pa-tients in research population group where iodinated oral contrast media was replaced by a whole milk available in the local market. Patients were scanned as per the routine protocol used for CT Abdomen at KAUH-CT Unit: Helical Mode with 0.7 Pitch was performed on all paints in supine po-sition using a 16-detector row scanner (Bright Speed S, General Electric-Milwaukee Wisconsin, USA). The following parameters were applied: collimation of 16 × 0.625 (1.25 - 3.75) mm, pitch of 3, Slice thickness: 5 mm, gantry rotation time of 400 mAs, tube voltage of 120 KV and scan time 11.05 second. The images of all cases were reviewed by two qualified radiologists. Conclusion: The present study suggested that whole milk was found to be an effective alternative negative contrast for the assessment of the jejunum, ileum and terminal ileum in CT enterography. It was excellent for gastric imaging and we recommended replacing milk as negative oral contrast since it is available and cost effective. Further research to be conducted with modified milk drinking timing for better large bowel distention.展开更多

文摘The potential use of sound and vibration for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes remains largely under-explored and under-estimated.Sound and vibrational energy has great positive impact on the mind and body.It could be particularly useful for psychosomatic diseases as a complementary therapy.Singing bowls,the spiritual ancient therapy has been claimed to aid in mind relaxation and painful and inflammatory conditions.Childhood asthma is an inflammatory airway disease and a psychosomatic disorder.The psychological management in it is often neglected leading to under-treatment or a relapse.Hence,we hypothesized that sound therapy with singing bowls might be useful as complementary therapy in management of childhood asthma.We aimed to study the effect of singing bowl session on child’s asthma severity and control and on the psychological well-being.Children<18 years of age and suffering from childhood asthma were recruited after informed written consent of parents.At the baseline,demographic and clinical details were noted.Anthropometric parameters,PEFR readings,asthma severity,parental and child’s subjective feeling of well-being,asthma control score,and pediatric symptom checklist score(based on age)were determined.The child was given 15 min of singing bowl session as per the set protocol.The subjective and objective evaluation of asthma control and psychological assessment was repeated at 1 month and 3 months follow-up and compared with the baseline results for clinical significance.Eighteen children formed the study group with a mean age of 9.13±2.15 years(range 2–15.25 years).4 children had psychological issues on initial screening.There was a significant improvement in asthma severity,subjective feeling of well-being and asthma control score at 3 months(p<0.05).Singing bowl therapy could be a useful,low-cost complementary therapy in childhood asthmatics.

文摘This paper recalls the 1942 Rose Bowl game,which was relocated from its traditional site at Pasadena,California,to Duke University in Durham,North Carolina.The Tournament of Roses nearly cancelled the game after a government request to avoid large crowds on the West Coast,in light of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.Duke,originally selected as the visiting team to play Pacific Coast Conference champion Oregon State University,resolved the dilemma by offering to stage the game at its campus stadium.Duke Stadium had a capacity of only 35,000,much smaller than the Rose Bowl stadium,and 20,000 temporary seats from nearby University of North Carolina and North Carolina State University were added to accommodate fans.On the strength of a 13-point third quarter,Oregon State upset undefeated Duke,20-16,in the 28th Rose Bowl game.The game returned to Pasadena the following year.With Allied victory at the Battle of Midway and stabilization of the Pacific Theater of war,the West Coast was considered secure enough to host large events.The move of the 1942 Rose Bowl was the first of many impacts on sport generally and college football in particular caused by World War II.With male enrollment reduced drastically,many colleges and universities did not field a football team for one or more seasons during the war.Prominent players were killed in action,including some who competed in the 1942 Rose Bowl.Coaches likewise joined the war effort,notably Wallace Wade of Duke.Following the war,the readjustment of servicemen extended to the gridiron,as football rosters included many veterans.Yet the 1942 Rose Bowl has new relevance beyond its 75th anniversary.The 2008 Southeastern Conference men’s basketball tournament was moved when a tornado struck Atlanta.In 2015 terrorists attacked a soccer stadium in Paris,raising new consciousness of the global threat of terrorism.Sport managers strive to make events safe,not only at the venue,but within an expanding perimeter.
文摘We describe a modified aural meatoplasty technique. The technique has been mainly used for mastoid surgery but it may also be used to address other causes of meatal stenosis. It involves removing most of the cartilage in the conchal bowl and soft tissue in the external auditory meatus. Cartilage from the helical root may also be sacrificed as part of this procedure. Our technique produces an excellent cosmetic result and an adequate meatoplasty which is easy to monitor in the outpatient setting.
文摘The art of cricket bowling is complex and arduous owing to the run-up and ball release time energy requirement to achieve speed and variations. Therefore, human bowlers cannot bowl for extended periods and numerous mechanical bowling machines have been built to help batsmen improve their skills during practice sessions. However, most of these existing machines are designed for spherical balls ignoring the distinguishing physical feature of a cricket ball: the raised equatorial seam, which makes it less of a sphere. The bowlers are known to often benefit from this seam in their pursuit to taking the batsmen's wicket by imparting swing, spin and bounce variations along-with other bowling variables. This lack of the seam consideration creates a void between human and mechanical bowling. In this work, we present design and development of an automatic bowling machine termed as ROBOWLER to make mechanical bowling more realistic. This machine ensures ball seam position as well as fulfills other constraints. Ball pitching and seam position accuracy results underscore the suitability of this design to enhance the capabilities of mechanical bowling.
文摘The present study aimed to evaluate using the whole milk as alternative oral contrast for the as-sessment of gastrointestinal CT enterography. Fifty patients undergo (18 female and 32 male) aged from 21 to 79 years (mean 45 years) undergo abdominal CT at the department of diagnostic radiology of King Abdulaziz University Hospital. They receive 1 - 1.5 liter whole milk. Siemens SOMATOM definition CT Scan Machine with 64 slices and dual source was utilized to image all pa-tients in research population group where iodinated oral contrast media was replaced by a whole milk available in the local market. Patients were scanned as per the routine protocol used for CT Abdomen at KAUH-CT Unit: Helical Mode with 0.7 Pitch was performed on all paints in supine po-sition using a 16-detector row scanner (Bright Speed S, General Electric-Milwaukee Wisconsin, USA). The following parameters were applied: collimation of 16 × 0.625 (1.25 - 3.75) mm, pitch of 3, Slice thickness: 5 mm, gantry rotation time of 400 mAs, tube voltage of 120 KV and scan time 11.05 second. The images of all cases were reviewed by two qualified radiologists. Conclusion: The present study suggested that whole milk was found to be an effective alternative negative contrast for the assessment of the jejunum, ileum and terminal ileum in CT enterography. It was excellent for gastric imaging and we recommended replacing milk as negative oral contrast since it is available and cost effective. Further research to be conducted with modified milk drinking timing for better large bowel distention.
