Using a pair of gratings and two knife edges as a filter, wavelength tunable picosecond pulses of tens to hundreds of milliwatts can be obtained in the broadband spectrum range. The output power, pulse width, and spectrum(center wavelength and linewidth) are adjusted by tuning the distance of the grating pair and/or the knife edges.Fixing the distance between the two gratings at 15 mm and keeping the output spectrum linewidth at approximately 20 nm,the shortest pulse width obtained is less than 1 ps centered at 1080 nm. The longest wavelength of the short pulses is around1200 nm, and its output power and pulse width are 40 m W and 5.79 ps, respectively. The generation of a flat broadband spectrum is also discussed in this paper.展开更多

Pumped by a 976 nm single-mode laser diode, stable mode-locked ultrashort pulses are emitted with an average power of 198mW at a repetition rate of 124MHz, corresponding to a pulse energy of 1.6nJ. The output spectrum spans from 950nm to ll50nm so that the transform-limited pulse duration is as short as 23 fs. Due to the imperfect dispersion compensation, we compress the pulses to 32 fs in this experiment.展开更多

The cascaded SRS is achieved by using a long passive fiber pumped by a pulsed fiber laser cen: tered at wavelength 1064 nm. The amplified spontaneous emission during the amplification process is efficiently suppressed by cutting the length of the passive fiber and by using a double-clad ytterbium-doped fiber amplifier. The generated broadband spectrum spans from 960nm to 1700nm with maximum average output 13.6 W and average spectral power density approximately 17. 7 mW/nm.展开更多

Asia Pacific is one of the most important forces in the whole world. Mobile cellular subscriptions in the Asia-Pacific region have increased 22% from 2009 to 2010, much higher than other regions. A compound annual growth rate of data services is almost 100% in the past several years. This paper forecasts the demands of the mobile broadband development and estimates the needs for spectrum resources for next decade in the Asia-Pacific region. In order to make IMT create greater value for the human beings, sufficient spectrum resources are highly necessary.展开更多
