Generally, they are either elevated or depressed at the same time. This study was aimed at evaluating the clinical ability of these markers in the early diagnosis of pulmonary tuberculosis. Materials and Methods: A total of 50 (male 39, female 21) patients who tested positive to Acid Alcohol Fast Bacilli (AAFB) were studied. ESR and CRP values were estimated using standard procedures. Results: The mean ESR value among the AAFB positive patients was 53.16 ± 4.92 mm/hr while the CRP value was 0.273 ± 0.035 mg/L. Gender and age were not found to have any influence on the ESR and CRP values. No relationship was found to exist between ESR and CRP (r = 0.17;p = 0.235) and age (r = 0.125;p = 0.388). Conclusion: A moderately elevated ESR and low CRP values exist at the early diagnosis of tuberculosis. There is no correlation between ESR and CRP at the onset of tuberculosis;hence CRP cannot be used as a screening tool for early diagnosis of tuberculosis.展开更多

Methods 88 patients who needed hip replacement in orthopaedic surgery of our hospital from January 2014 to December 2017 were selected as the research object. According to the prognosis of patients, they were divided into two groups. 42 patients with good prognosis were treated as observation group and 46 patients with poor prognosis were treated as control group. The ESR and CRP of the two groups were recorded and analyzed before and after operation. The expression level of D-D, perioperative changes, and the prognostic value of the area under the curve (AUC) were compared by drawing the patient's working characteristic curve (ROC curve). Results The expression levels of ESR, CRP and D-D in the observation group were significantly higher than those in the control group (P < 0.05). The expression levels of CRP in the observation group were significantly higher than those in the control group (P < 0.05). The expression levels of ESR and CRP in the observation group before discharge were significantly higher than those in the control group (P < 0.05). There was significant difference between the two groups (P < 0.05);the level of ESR expression before and 2 days after operation was significantly lower than that before discharge (P < 0.05);the level of ESR expression before operation was significantly lower than that 2 days after operation (P < 0.05);and the CRP and D-D table before operation were compared between the two groups (P < 0.05). The level of CRP and D-D expression in two groups was significantly higher than that before discharge (P < 0.05). In this study, two groups of patients were infected. The incidence of thrombosis in the observation group was higher than that in the control group, but the difference was not statistically significant (P > 0.05). The Harris score of the observation group was significantly higher than that of the control group (P < 0.05). Conclusion There are abnormal levels of ESR, CRP and D-D expression in elderly patients with hip replacement before operation, and they have certain clinical value in evaluating the prognosis of elderly patients after hip replacement.展开更多

Methods: We enrolled 102 RA patients treated with Tofacitinib in combination with MTX from a multicenter, exploratory, short-term, prospective and observational ultrasound cohort study of patients who received biologic or targeted synthetic disease-modifying antirheumatic drug (DMARD) therapy. We evaluated the patients’ clinical disease activity and musculoskeletal ultrasound (MSUS) scores. The serum concentrations of two venous blood inflammatory indicators were evaluated (c-reactive protein [CRP], erythrocyte sedimentation rate [ESR]) by multiplex bead assays at baseline, 3, and 6?months: the change over 6?months was defined as the P value. Before MSUS score treatment, an associate chief physician tested the wrist joints of each patient at the first treatment, and the attending physician with 3 years of MSUS experience and 7 years of work experience also performed semi-quantitative scores on the same RA patients and tested the consistency of the results. Results: Tofacitinib in combination with MTX significantly improved the clinical disease activity and MSUS score over 6?months. Serum ESR and CRP were significantly elevated at 6?months after the Tofacitinib in combination with MTX introduction (P P P Conclusions: MSUS scores may be useful for predicting RA patients’ therapeutic responses to abatacept.展开更多

Forty-eight adult male Albino Wistar rats weighing 150 - 180 g were randomly divided 8 per group into: group I (control) oral gavaged 3 ml/kg of normal saline;group II received 3 ml/kg of NBLCO;groups III, IV and V received in addition to 3 ml/kg of NBLCO 1 ml/kg vitamin C, vitamin E and 3 ml/kg of honey bee respectively;group VI received 3 ml/kg of honey. After 28 days of treatment, all animals were anaesthetized with chloroform and blood collected by cardiac puncture for analysis. Results showed that NBLCO administration significantly increased erythrocyte sedimentation rate and C-reactive protein while supplementation with antioxidant significantly reversed such effects (p < 0.05). NBLCO significantly reduced platelets and fibrinogen levels compared with the control group (p < 0.05). Interestingly, the vitamin supplementation significantly reduced platelets and fibrinogen levels compared to group II (NBLCO) (p < 0.05). Honey supplementation on the other hand significantly reduced platelets and fibrinogen compared to group II (NBLCO) (p < 0.05). From the results obtained it is concluded that ingestion of NBLCO has the potential to induce development and progression of inflammation but could substantially be mitigated by supplementation with antioxidant vitamins C, E and honey.展开更多

Methods: A total of 44 patients were included in this transverse (cross sectional), observational, analytical, and comparative study. Two groups of patients were created. Results: In patients with chronic renal failure, stages 3, 4, or 5 (scale 1 to 5) were identified and divided into two groups: Group I (Patients with concomitant diabetic retinopathy stabilized with photocoagulation) 22 patients. Group II (Patients with progression of retinopathy, after photocoagulation, in the form of intraocular bleeding) 22 patients. The number of patients with chronic renal failure in stage 3 was: Group I;16. In Group II;12 patients (OR: 1.0). Stage 4: Group I;4 patients. Group II: 3 patients (OR: 1.0, CI 95%;0.3843 - 2.021). Stage 5: Group I;2 patients. Group II;7 patients (OR: 1.8148, CI 95%;1.0448 - 3.1523;Chi-squared (x2) 2.7450, p = 0.097). t-Test found statistical significance in Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR): p < 0.0001 (CI 95%;7.8959 - 23.2515);R = 0.56 p = 0.001;and OR = 1.959 (CI 95%;1.193 - 3.217). By non-parametric tests, C-reactive protein with binomial test showed p < 0.001. ESR showed p < 0.001 with U of Mann Whitney. Conclusions: With this study revealed a possible association of inflammatory markers with Diabetic Renal-Retinal Syndrome.展开更多

In this study, our aim was to find the relationship between laboratory parameters and the maximum standard uptake value (SUVmax) of positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) in patients with lymphoma at the diagnosis and after treatment. Methods: Thirty-tbur lymphoma patients treated at Mustafa Kemal University Internal Medicine Clinic between 2014 and 2017 were included in this retrospective study. Results ofCRP, ESR, LDH, albumin, and white blood cell (WBC) count were recorded betbre each PET scan test, and each parameter was analyzed for correlation with SUV measurements. Results: Spearman's correlation test showed that the after-treatment SUV values were significantly correlated with the alter-treatment LDH, ESR, and CRP values (for LDH, ESR, and CRP, R2: 0.453, 0.426, and 0.351; P = 0.007, 0.012, and 0.042, respectively). On the other hand, albumin and WBC count did not show a significant correlation with the after-treatment SUVmax values (all P 〉 0.05). Conclusions: CRP, ESR, and LDH values may also be good predictors in patients for whom PET/CT imaging cannot be performed.展开更多
