A Translator’s Feed-Back About the Practice of Pun-Translation-From the Chinese Version of The Life of Napoleon Bonaparte

It has been acknowledged by Chinese translators that in translating English puns the center should be put on the thorough comprehension of the original expression that more often than not has more than one meanings and the flexible handling of conversion from the native language to the target one. Literal translation will often be impossible, annotation redundant, and the restructuring and remaking of new ways that create and maintain balance or similarity in function and value will be more preferred as a possible way-out for pun-translation. Examples attached are from the writer of this article who is also the translator of a published historical book where punning can be found.

Return to ethics： On translators＇ norms of honor and shame

Translation studies has undergone three different periods： the traditional philological period, the modem linguistic period and the contemporary cultural period. Ever since the cultural turn, especially after the introduction of deconstruction into translation, traditional translation theories have been greatly affected. The traditional principle like faithfulness to the source text and the writer has been attacked and the translator＇s subjectivity and creativity have been greatly advocated. Under such circumstances, this paper, however, holds that translation studies should turn to ethics for the messy situation, and translators should be able to identify norms of honor and shame in translation practice.

On social-oriented translator training in colleges and universities

With the deepening of globalization, the demand of translators is on the rise. The upsurge of translation does not mean that there is no any worry in translation teaching, since the translators trained in colleges and universities do not satisfy the social demands. 汉译本《译者的隐形:翻译史论》(The translator's invisibility:A history of translation)对韦努蒂翻译思想和理念的引进和推广起到了很大的作用。然而,其中部分译文存在着对原文词义、搭配、句法结构、跨文化知识背景的理解错误以及遣词造句等方面的问题,与原文的本义有较大出入,容易引起读者误解,值得商榷。本文列出其中几例存疑译文,条分缕析,指出其失误所在,并提出参考译文,以供对比。

Cultural Identity and Translator's Style: Case Study of Translation of Tea Relevant Acts in Hong Lou Meng

From the methodological perspective, the thesis summarized leisure tea act, judging-time tea act to map translator's style. Through investigations on all these, the thesis succeeded in confirming the translator's styles and pinpointing cultural identity as essential factors influencing their styles. Hopefully, this could help to provide a new angle of view to make research on translator's style. Moreover, the thesis wishes that with analysis of tea culture in Hong Lou Meng the translation of tea relevant acts receive greater priority in the Chinese Classics Translation.

As a cutting-edge trend of translating,Computer-aided translation(CAT) plays a significant role in the field.Among kinds of CAT softwares,Trados and Déjà Vu became the mainstream of the translating market since they were available in the market.By discussing the environments of two CAT softwares in this paper,translators'efficiency would be improved to some degree in the future.

The translator, as the main body of a translation, has been in an invisible and ignored state for a long time. Tense and Aspect Issue of Translator Competence

This essay is a research report, which is based on results of grammatical error analysis and interviews with linguistic teachers. These researches are conducted in four language streams, namely, Chinese, Spanish, Korean and Japanese. It will talk about problems identified in all these four language streams, with Chinese as the focus. Although according to various definitions, translation competence includes several parts, which are all required for a professional translator; this essay covers mainly the linguistic competence with tense and aspect issue as the main point. Meanwhile, some major causes of mistakes will be identified, such as interference of mother tongue, lack of second language proficiency.
