Distribution of Mandarin Mingled by Cantonese: Survey Based on Pearl River Delta in China

Mandarin Mingled by Cantonese is common in Guangdong dialect area.Its main manifestation is the heterogeneous pronunciation and vocabulary,and its performance degree can measure speakers’Mandarin level.In the summer of 2019,this paper conducted a survey on the Pearl River Delta area and found that:(1)the rank of Mandarin of each city is from high to low:Shenzhen,Dongguan,Guangzhou,Zhuhai,Foshan,Huizhou,Zhongshan,Jiangmen,Zhaoqing;(2)The degree index of Mandarin Mingled by Cantonese in the Pearl River Delta is calculated.It’s wise to strengthen the promotion of Mandarin in Guangdong,to promote the balanced development of regional economic integration.

Characteristic and effect analysis of protein and peptide in Cantonese cured meat processing

The aim of this work was to explore the physicochemical and structural properties,lipid oxidation and antioxidant capacity of the peptides extracted from Cantonese cured meat and as well as to investigate the effect of drying time on the sarcoplasmic and myofibrillar proteins of Cantonese cured meat.The results suggested that salting out,protein oxidation and heat treatment were closely related to surface hydrophobicity and the secondary structure of peptides was changed by processing.And the peroxide value and the value of tributyltin compounds were different in evaluating the degree of lipid oxidation.Glu and His were the major amino acid.The approximate molecular weights of the sarcoplasmic proteins and myofibrillar proteins ranged from 31 kDa to 50 kDa and 66 kDa,respectively.The results indicated that reducing the levels of protein oxidation and improvement of the antioxidant properties should be of great interest to preserve the nutritional quality of meat products and prolong preservation period.

Applying the Frame Theory to Translating Animal Metaphors in Cantonese Nursery Rhymes into English

From the perspective of the frame theory,with the analysis of animal metaphors in Cantonese nursery rhymes,this paper discusses the feasible translation strategies,suggesting that direct translation can be adopted for animal metaphors that can evoke the similar cognitive frame in both Cantonese and English cultural contexts.As for those without identical frame,translation without the original vehicle can be used for the metaphors of physicalification,while translation with annotation can be applied for the metaphors of personification.

A Cognitive Study on the Phenomenon of Metonymy in Cantonese

Different from those in Mandarin Chinese,some references in Cantonese adopt metonymy.From the perspective of cognition,this paper takes the conceptual metonymy as the theoretical framework to analyze the typical metonymic references in Cantonese,so as to illustrate the penetration of metonymic mapping in various languages employed by people.

Mandarin Mingled by Cantonese:A Phenomenon of Language Variation

Mandarin mingled by Cantonese is a phenomenon of Mandarin variation.This paper adopts heterogeneous words to explore its specific performances within the context of Mandarin by investigating 21 cities in Guangdong Province of China,and applies the average ratio of heterogeneous words to measure the variation degree of Mandarin influenced by Cantonese.The statistical results suggest that language variation is mainly reflected in pronunciation,vocabulary and grammar,especially in pronunciation.Variation can be found in all kinds of parts of speech,mostly nouns,verbs and adjectives.Furthermore,there is a certain internal correlation between variation and residents’individual characteristics:the elder,less educated and rural resident,the more serious the variation is;and male is more prone to variation than female.Additionally,the degree of variation varies greatly from city to city.The Mandarin level in Shenzhen and Dongguan is much higher than that in Yunfu and Jieyang,which is closely related to the level of regional economic development.

A Study on the Metaphorical Image of Cantonese Cuisine and Its Translation

Guangdong, as one of the many tourist attractions in China, has gained increasing popularity among travelers around the globe. The image of the place is by and large determined by several respects, among which, the most prominent is no other than the food, Cantonese cuisine, whose dish names are usually rich in metaphors. This paper aims to analyze the metaphors embedded deeply in the dish names, with hope to decipher the mapping from the source domain, or the metaphorical image, to the target do?main, so as to help deliver a viable solution to translate them, and improve the image of Cantonese cuisine.

Motivation and Pragmatic Strategies of Code-switching--A Case Study of the Switching between Cantonese and English on Campus in Guangzhou City

Code-switching is a daily affair in multilingual communities.A set of negotiation system exists in the conversations made by speakers and hearers,which is used to test whether the participants have such kind of linguistic repertoire to handle codeswitching,in order to take different conversation strategies to keep the conversation going on or to end it.With the assistances of several ways of analysis applied,including fieldwork and conversational analysis,this paper focuses on the social motivation and pragmatic model of code-switching between Cantonese and English.

Cantonese porcelain classification and image synthesis by ensemble learning and generative adversarial network

Accurate recognition of modern and traditional porcelain styles is a challenging issue in Cantonese porcelain management due to the large variety and complex elements and patterns. We propose a hybrid system with porcelain style identification and image recreation modules. In the identification module, prediction of an unknown porcelain sample is obtained by logistic regression of ensembled neural networks of top-ranked design signatures, which are obtained by discriminative analysis and transformed features in principal components. The synthesis module is developed based on a conditional generative adversarial network, which enables users to provide a designed mask with porcelain elements to generate synthesized images of Cantonese porcelain. Experimental results of 603 Cantonese porcelain images demonstrate that the proposed model outperforms other methods relative to precision, recall, area under curve of receiver operating characteristic, and confusion matrix. Case studies on image creation indicate that the proposed system has the potential to engage the community in understanding Cantonese porcelain and promote this intangible cultural heritage.

Language Attitude and Language Degeneration:An Empirical Study Based on the Pearl River Delta of China

This paper conducts a tracking investigation of the dialect speakers in Cantonese,and addresses the impact of language attitude on language degeneration by using OLS models.Results reveal that the stronger the language identity,the less obvious the language degeneration.It’s necessary to maintain the harmonious coexistence of dialects and Mandarin.

“Cantonese Cuisine Master”project is an important policy proposed by China to inherit Cantonese Cuisine culture,promote employment,and achieve targeted poverty reduction and rural revitalization.Confronted with the demands of more diverse education,it is an essential opportunity and task for the education system to consider how to construct high-quality online courses and pursue higher-quality“Cantonese Cuisine Master”projects in line with the new era.This paper,based on the theory of instructional media and information processing theory,will further clarify the demand,dilemma,and developing strategy of online course construction for culinary majors,and explore its construction and practice with the example of“A Bite of Teochew Cuisine,”a Guangdong first-class course.

ARTICULATORY-ACOUSTIC RELATIONS IN PALATAL VOWELS

The study^1 evaluates the quantal theory by analyzing the articulatory-acoustic relations in the four Cantonese palatal vowels[i:y:i y]through investigating the sensitivity of vowel formant frequencies to variation of linguo-palatal constriction location and that of constriction size along the vocal tract length during the vowels,using KMA AG5 0 0.The articulatory-acoustic data obtained in this study show non-linear relationship between the up-down and front-back displacements in linguo-palatal constriction during the vowels and the acoustic consequences,which is similar to what the quantal theory claims.Moderate displacements in constriction location and constriction size result in large spectral changes.The level of sensitivity of formant frequencies to variation of tongue displacement is lower for the unrounded[i:i]than the rounded counterparts[y:y],suggesting the quantal nature is more apparent in[i:i]than[y:y].In general,for the Cantonese palatal vowels the levels of sensitivity of F1 to the variation of constriction location and that of constriction size are similar,whereas F2 is more sensitive to the variation of constriction size than to the variation of constriction location.The latter is similar to the articulatory-acoustic relations in the Knglish vowels reported in the previous studies.
