Low temperature ferromagnetic properties of CdS and CdTe thin films

In this report, CdS and CdTe thin films ar... The magnetic property in a material is induced by the unpaired electrons. This can occur due to defect states which can enhance the magnetic moment and the spin polarization. In this report, CdS and CdTe thin films are grown on FTO glass substrates by chemical bath deposition and close-spaced sublimation, respectively. The magnetic properties, which are introduced from oxygen states, are found in CdS and CdTe thin films. From the hysteresis loop of magnetic moment it is revealed that CdS and CdTe thin films have different kinds of magnetic moments at different temperatures. The M–H curves indicate that from 100 K to 350 K, CdS and CdTe thin films show paramagnetism and diamagnetism, respectively.A superparamagnetic or a weakly ferromagnetic response is found at 5 K. It is also observed from ZFC/FC curves that magnetic moments decrease with temperature increasing. Spin polarized density functional calculation for spin magnetic moment is also carried out. 展开更多

Effects of Sn-doping on morphology and optical properties of CdTe polycrystalline films 被引量:1

Sn-doped CdTe polycrystalline films were successfully deposited on ITO glass substrates by close space sublimation. The effects of Sn-doping on the microstructure, surface morphology, and optical properties of polycrys- talline films were studied using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometry, respectively. The results show that the lower molar ratio of Sn and CdTe conduces to a strongly preferential orientation of (111) in films and a larger grain size, which indicates that the crystallinity of films can be improved by appropriate Sn-doping. As the molar ratio of Sn and CdTe increases, the preferential orientation of (111) in films becomes weaker, the grain size becomes smaller, and the crystal boundary becomes indistinct, which indicates that the crystallization growth of films is incomplete. However, as the Sn content increases, optical absorption becomes stronger in the visible region. In summary, a strongly preferential orientation of (111) in films and a larger grain size can be obtained by appropriate Sn-doping (molar ratio of Sn : CdTe = 0.06 : 1), while the film retains a relatively high optical absorption in the visible region. However, Sn-doping has no obvious influence on the energy gap of CdTe films. 展开更多

The optical and electrical parameters of the oxygenated and OE-free devices are compared after CdC12 treatment and annealing in ambient Ar and/or air. The effects of ambient annealing on the electrical and optical properties of the films are investigated using current-voltage characterization, field emission scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and optical transmission spectroscopy. The 1% oxygen content can slightly increase the grain size while the crystallinity does not change. Annealing in ambient Ar can increase the transmission rate of the oxygenated devices. 展开更多
