The method is based on the complexa- tion reaction between cefixime and palladium ion in the presence of acidic buffer solution (pH 3) in ethanol-distilled water medium at room temperature. The complex absorbed maximally at 352 nm. Beer's law is obeyed in the working concentration range of 2.5-35 μg/mL with apparent molar absorptivity of 1.015×104 L/mol cm and Sandell's sensitivity of 0.001 μg/cm2/0.001 absorbance unit. The limits of detection and quantitation for the proposed method are 0.175 and 0.583μg/mL, respectively. The effect of common excipients used as additives has been studied in the determination of cefixime. The proposed method has been successfully applied for the determina- tion of cefixime in pharmaceutical formulations. The results obtained by the proposed method were statistically compared with the reference method using t and F values and found no significant difference between the two methods.展开更多

Intermediate antibacterial activity was exhibited by G.tricornutum and Vi.pseudo negundo against some of the studied strains with 7-20 mm and 7-13 mm of diameters, respectively. Noteworthy, out of 9 studied strains;6 and 2 of them were resistant to the G.tricornutum and Vi. pseudo negundo extracts, respectively. The S.officinalis and Va.pyramidata, however, showed no antibacterial activity against the studied strains. Conclusions:The Q.brantii,P.harmala,Z. spina-christi and O.decumbens extracts were shown to possess strong antibacterial activity against methicillin and cefixime resistant S.aureus strains and can be considered as the promising natural antibiotics for treating the studied strains.展开更多

The degradation process follows the first-order kinetics. A pH-rate profile exhibits the U-shape and shows the maximum stability of cefixime at pH = 6. The stability in different pure solvents is ranked as acetone 〉 ethanol 〉 methanol 〉 water, while the degradation rate of cefixime exists a maximum at the ratio of 0.6 in water + methanol mixtures. In addition, the degradation rate increases with the temperature increasing and the activation energy of degradation was found to be 27.078 kJ. mol- 1 in acetone + water mixed solvents. The addition of different additives was proven to either inhibit or accelerate the degradation. The degradation products were analyzed using HPLC, LC-MS and infrared spectroscopy, and the possible degradation pathways in acid as well as alkaline environment were proposed to help us understand the degradation behavior of cefixime.展开更多

The study was conducted through the weight loss technique at 298 - 318 K and theoretical studies based on quantum chemistry. The studied drug inhibited the corrosion of copper in 1M HNO3 over the cefixime concentration range (0.02 - 2 mM). The inhibition efficiency increased with an increase in the inhibitor concentration to reach 91.07% at 2 mM, but decreased with an increase in temperature. The thermodynamic functions related to the adsorption of cefixime on the copper surface and that of the metal dissolution were computed and analyzed. The results point out spontaneous adsorption, mainly through a physisorption mechanism following Langmuir adsorption isotherm model and an endothermic dissolution process. Quantum chemical calculations were also performed at B3LYP level with 6-31G (d, p) basis set and lead to molecular descriptors such as EHOMO (energy of the highest occupied molecular orbital), ELUMO (energy of the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital), ΔE (energy gap) and μ (dipole moment). The global reactivity descriptors such as χ (electronegativity), χ (global hardness), S (global softness), and ω (electrophilicity index) were derived using Koopman’s theorem and analyzed. The local reactivity parameters, including Fukui functions and dual descriptors were determined and discussed. Experimental and theoretical results were found to be in good agreement.展开更多

Group A received cefaclor anti-infective therapy, group B received cefixime therapy, and both therapies lasted for 1 week. The differences in serum levels of inflammatory mediators, oxidative stress indexes and intestinal mucosal injury markers were compared between the two groups before and after treatment. Results: Before treatment, the differences in serum levels of inflammatory mediators, oxidative stress indexes and intestinal mucosal injury markers were not statistically significant. After 1 week of treatment, serum inflammatory mediators IL-8 and TNF-α levels of group B were lower than those of group A whereas IL-10 level was higher than that of group A;serum oxidative stress indexes ROS and MDA levels were lower than those of group A whereas GSH-Px and CAT levels were higher than those of group A;serum intestinal mucosal injury markers DAO, D-Lactate, FABP and GST levels were lower than those of group A.Conclusion: Cefixime anti-infective therapy can effectively inhibit the inflammatory stress response and reduce the intestinal mucosal barrier injury in children with infective enteritis.展开更多
