Preliminary Palynostratigraphic Data on the Middle Albian-Lower Cenomanian of the Tarfaya Basin, Southwest Morocco

The Tarfaya-Laayoune-Boujdour basin is of great interest to oil exploration;on this aspect, there has been exploration by the Moroccan National Office of Hydrocarbons and Mining, which has shown indices of oil and/or gas recorded in most wells drilled in the Moroccan Atlantic margin. FD-1 well, object of this study, is one of these wells located in the offshore Tarfaya-Laayoune-Boujdour basin. A palynological examination of the processed samples revealed the existence of organic palynomorphs, well conserved and rich in dinoflagellate cysts. The latter are composed of worldwide marker taxa of high stratigraphic resolutions. Thus, the middle upper Albian (3408 - 3408.5 m) is determined by the presence of Cribroperidinium tensiftense, Tehamadinium coummia, Spiniferella cornuta, Chichaouadinium vestitum, Dinopterygium alatum and Litosphaeridium arundum. The upper Albian (3406.5 - 3408 m) is characterized by the FOs of marker taxa: Cyclonephelium chabaca, Cribroperidinium auctificum and Chichaouadinium vestitum. Lastly, the upper Albian-lower Cenomanian transition is defined between 3404 m and 3406.50 m, as suggested by the FOs of Chichaouadinium boydii, Dinopterygium tuberculatum, Sepispinula ancorifera, Litosphaeridium conispinum, Prolixosphaeridium conulum and Xenascus ceratioides. 展开更多

本研究利用大庆油田在松辽盆地中部的岩心样品进行了青山口组有机碳稳定同位素的测试,通过化学地层和生物地层研究提出了青山口阶的顶底标志。在青山口组底部同位素值最低,为- 32 .2‰,与介形虫Cypridea elliptica的消失界面吻合。同位... 本研究利用大庆油田在松辽盆地中部的岩心样品进行了青山口组有机碳稳定同位素的测试,通过化学地层和生物地层研究提出了青山口阶的顶底标志。在青山口组底部同位素值最低,为- 32 .2‰,与介形虫Cypridea elliptica的消失界面吻合。同位素值随后迅速上升,形成底界之上的第一个峰值,为- 2 8.1‰。随后的4个峰值自下而上分别是- 2 8‰、- 2 7.8‰、- 2 7.3‰和- 2 6 .6‰,相间的低峰值一般处于- 30‰~- 2 9‰左右。最为重要的是,有机碳稳定同位素值在青山口组顶部出现一个明显的异常,由- 2 9.5‰急剧升为- 2 3.1‰,随后又迅速降为- 30 .12‰,形成一个明显的正向峰值。这一正向偏移的位置与介形类Cypridea panda和Triangulicyprisfusiformis的消失界面基本吻合,并与全球Cenom anian- Turonian界线稳定同位素事件表现一致。据此,将这一稳定同位素正向偏移确定为青山口阶顶界的化学标志。通过这一标志可以将青山口阶的顶界与海相Cenom anian阶顶界进行对比。研究结果表明,化学地层标志是陆相与海相地层的对比的渠道。青山口阶的有机碳稳定同位素值具有全球一致的意义,与我国西藏南部海相地层,乃至全球重要地区Cenomanian- Turonian阶稳定同位素界线均具有可比性。 展开更多

The stratigraphic division and sequence of the Upper Cretaceous sediments in eastern Heilongjiang Province,China,have been ambiguous and controversial,mainly due to a lack of biostratigraphically useful fossils and related radiometric dating.A new species of angiospermous fossil plant.Platanus heilongjiangensis sp.nov.,from Qitaihe in eastern Heilongjiang has been found in sediments conformably above which zircons from a rhyolitic tuff has been dated by U-Pb radiometric methods as 96.2±1.7 Ma.indicating that the Upper Houshigou Formation is of Cenomanian age.This discovery not only provides new data to improve our stratigraphic understanding of the Houshigou Formation,but also shows that Platanus flourished in the early Late Cretaceous floras of the region.This new study also indicates active volcanism taking place in the eastern Heilongjiang region during the Cenomanian of the Late Cretaceous. 展开更多

Calibration of numerical ages to the geological time scale is a long scientific pursuit that requires the integration of multiple data sets. A case study of the Albian/Cenomanian stage boundary, also the Lower/Upper Cretaceous series boundary, illustrates the calibration process. The numerical age of this boundary has shifted from 96 Ma to 99 Ma over a time span of nearly fifty years. Recalibration resulted first from improvements in radiometric dating, and later from inferences about ammonite phylogeny, and most recently from radiometric dates of newly discovered volcanic beds interbedded with diagnostic guide fossils. However, the calibration process continues with study of cosmopolitan dinoflagellates. 展开更多

Data on Late Cenomanian and Early Turonian foraminiferal assemblages in the northern palaeo biogeographical district of the West Siberian province are summarized in the paper. In addition, the section of borehole 1016 of the Parusovaya area located in the far north of the province is considered. New information on the foraminiferal zones of this stratigraphic level along with the previously known sections of the Tazovskaya, Purpeiskaya, Van-Eganskaya areas provided an opportunity to carry out a correlation of these zones between the West Siberian and the Canadian provinces (Western Canada, Northern Alaska). The West Siberian Late Cenomanian Trochammina wetteri tumida, Verneuilinoides kansasensis and the Early Turonian Gaudryinopsis angustus foraminiferal zones have their analogues as similar zones in the Canadian province. Due to the provided correlation of the micropalaeontological (foraminiferal) zones, their age in the West Siberian province has been clarified. Besides, similarity of the conditions of dwelling within the boundaries of the entire Arctic palaeobiogeographical realm has been observed. 展开更多

An integrated benthic foraminiferal and organic matter analysis of samples obtained from sedimentary sections exposed in the Mangoule-Bonepoupa area, revealed a very shallow marine paleo-depositional environment for the sediments studied, with considerable influx of continental organic matter that were accumulated during the Cenomanian-Turonian age. With reference to the lithostratigraphic profile of the Douala/Kribi-Campo Basin, the age obtained reveals that the sedimentary sections studied belong particularly to the lower section of the Logbadjeck/Mungo River Formation, based on the following benthic foraminifera assemblage: Ammobaculites jessensis, Ammobaculites benuensis, Ammobaculites coprolithiformis, Ammotium cf nkalagum, Ammotium nwalum, Haplophragmoides cf beuchensis, Trochamina taylorana. A particularly very poor palynomorph assemblage was recovered and included no age diagnostic species: Acrostichum aureum, Lycopodiumsporites sp., Fungal spore, Lavigatosporites discordatus, Longapertites sp., Verrucosisporites sp. An organic petrographic analysis performed on these samples revealed Kerogen Type-II and Type-III. The entire data sets obtained from this area is remarkably poor and we suspect poor preservation as the cause viewing the extent of weathering. The paleo-depositional environment of these sediments was suggested both from the foraminifera and palynomorphs present and confirmed from the organic matter types and macrofossil contents. The studied sections are composed generally of dark to dark-gray shale beds. As one of the petroleum producing basins within the Gulf of Guinea in which exploration/exploitation activities are on-going, the current research is aim at providing more data useful in the continuous search for more potential source rocks in this basin. 展开更多

The Cenomanian-Turonian oceanic anoxic event (C/T OAE) is developed in southern Tibet. Organic geochemical study of the Cenomanian-Turonian sediments from the Gamba and Tingri areas shows that the mid-Cretaceous black shales in southern Tibet are enriched in organic carbon. The molecular analyses of organic matter indicate marine organic matter was derived from algae and bacteria. In the Gamba area, the organic matter is characterized by abundant tricyclic terpanes and pregane, which are predominant in 191 and 217 mass chromatograms, respectively. Pristane/phytane (Pr/Ph) ratios in the C/T OAE sediments are less than 1, demonstrating the domination of phytane. The presence of carotane can be regarded as a special biomarker indicating oxygen depletion in the C/T OAE sediments in the Tethyan Himalayas. In anoxic sediments, β-carotane and γ-carotane are very abundant. The β- and γ-carotane ratios relative to nC 17 in the Cenomanian-Turonian anoxic sediments vary from 32.28~ 42.87 and 5.10~ 11.01. 展开更多

Despite their potential for providing important information for paleobiogeography,studies using ostracod assemblages compiled from global datasets have been scarce so far.In this study,the paleogeographic implications of the relationship between different ostracod assemblages are analyzed and discussed for the Albian and Cenomanian.We compiled an ostracod dataset at the genus level,with 168 genera for the Albian and 174 for the Cenomanian,to which different multivariate statistical methods of grouping were applied.The affinity between different ostracod assemblages from different regions allowed for the delineation of 30 operational geographic units(OGUs)for the Albian,and 32 OGUs for the Cenomanian,grouped in three paleobiogeographic units(PBUs;Megatethys,Persia,and Austral)and one sub-unit(PBSU;Maghreb associated to the Megatethys).The Maghreb PBSU showed minor changes between the Albian and Cenomanian.The relationship among the OGUs grouped in each PBU is related to different factors,such as eustatic sea level events,similar climatic zones,and marine current circulation patterns.A relationship was observed between the Gabon and Nigeria OGUs with the Persia PBU,which suggests a direct east—west connection between them during the Cenomanian.The affinity observed in the Austral PBU between the South American,South African,and Australian regions during the Albian can be explained by their relative geographic isolation due to the Walvis Ridge barrier.The eventual flooding of this barrier led to the relationship observed between the SE Brazilian and Bolivian regions with the Austral PBU.Finally,the data also suggested that the separation of the Indian subcontinent from the Austral PBU took place during the Cenomanian. 展开更多

The Mishrif Formation(Cenomanian-E Turonian)is one of the most important geological formations in the Middle East and Iraq because it contains enormous petroleum accumulations.It is considered to be the first reservoir in the region,and is still being studied because of its economic significance.The carbonate of the Mishrif Formation derives from a variety of depositional settings,including mid-ramp,shoal,lagoon,and intertidal.The five main microfacies discussed in this paper are wackestone,packstone,grainstone,floatstone,and bindstone.The most frequent fossilised components found in the Mishrif Formation are rudists,benthic foraminifera,echinoderms,burrows molluscs,and algae.According to the microfacies and analysed wireline log data,the sequence stratigraphy of the studied formation is composed of two regression cycles.Five parasequences of transgressive-regressive cycles make up the depositional sequence of the Mishrif Formation.The standard depositional environments seem to demonstrate a gradual regression,beginning with a short period of the outer ramp,then a steady period of the mid-ramp,and ending in the intertidal environment.Additionally,the study recorded two regional maximum flooding surfaces:K-135 and K-140.The former is present in the lowermost part of the formation,while the other lies in the middle.This study shows a close relationship between facies(environments)and hydrocarbon accumulation.The increased accumulation focuses on the lower part of the studied formation,and seems to be lower in the upper part of the formation as a result of changes in the environment of deposition. 展开更多

在Cenomanian/Turonian界线(ca.93Ma)前后全球性的大洋缺氧背景下,藏南岗巴地区发育一套以深灰绿色-灰黑色钙质页岩、泥页岩为主夹少量灰岩透镜体的富有机碳沉积,有孔虫化石保存较好,含量丰富,其中底栖有孔虫在恢复古水深、底层水溶解... 在Cenomanian/Turonian界线(ca.93Ma)前后全球性的大洋缺氧背景下,藏南岗巴地区发育一套以深灰绿色-灰黑色钙质页岩、泥页岩为主夹少量灰岩透镜体的富有机碳沉积,有孔虫化石保存较好,含量丰富,其中底栖有孔虫在恢复古水深、底层水溶解氧浓度和古海洋生产力等方面具重要意义。C/T界线附近底栖有孔虫纵向上大致可划分为3个演化阶段。主要优势属种包括Dorothia,Anomalinoides,Lenticulina,Conobina等,浮游/底栖比率在50%-80%之间,指示了水深约100-200m的Ⅳ2生境型(外陆棚-陆架边缘斜坡环境)。底栖有孔虫氧指数(BFOI)在-6--25之间,对应的溶解氧含量约为0.7-1.4ml/L,与同时期其它地区相比偏低,属弱氧化环境。内生种百分含量和深内生种/外生种比率均指示了C/T界线附近较高的生产力水平。短期的海洋生产力的勃发很可能是加剧海水缺氧的主要原因,而长期的弱氧化条件的形成很可能是同时期一系列环境事件所导致的氧气供应量不足所致。 展开更多

The Upper Cretaceous(early Cenomanian)Bahariya Formation of Egypt has an outstanding reputation for its wealth of vertebrate remains,including a variety of iconic dinosaurs,like the carnivorous Spinosaurus and Carcharodontosaurus,as well as the herbivorous Aegyptosaurus and Paralititan.Besides these dinosaur fossils,the Bahariya Formation yielded also a wealth of invertebrate and plant remains,but even today many aspects concerning the continental palaeoenvironments reflected in these deposits(including the occurrence of palaeo-wildfires)have not been studied in detail.So far six distinct macro-charcoal bearing levels could be identified within the type section of the Bahariya Formation at Gabal El Dist profile,one of the most prolific outcrops of this formation in terms of fossil occurrence located in the north of the Bahariya Oasis,Western Desert,Egypt.Most of the charcoal investigated by means of SEM originates from ferns,pointing to a considerable proportion of this plant group within the palaeo-ecosystems that experienced fires.Gymnosperms and(putative)angiosperms have less frequently been identified.The collected data present evidence that the landscapes at the northern shores of Gondwana repeatedly experienced palaeo-wildfires,adding extra proof to previous statements that the Late Cretaceous was a fiery world on a global scale. 展开更多

The palynological assemblages from two Albian-Cenomanian boundary sections in North Bulgaria are described.The samples analyzed yielded a diverse palynological content including dinoflagellate cysts and miospores.Based on dinocyst nutrient and productivity indices a phase of enhanced nutrient availability and high primary productivity is inferred for the latest Albian interval.The pronounced predominance of peridinioid dinocysts in this interval,namely O.verrucosum,O.scabrosum and especially P.infusorioides is considered to reflect eutrophic conditions.It coincides with the increased phosphorus mass accumulation occurring at the top part of the Upper Albian Dekov Formation.OAE 1d is indicated in the Tolovitsa karst spring section,based on palynofacies dominated by high amounts of granular amorphous organic matter(AOM)related to anoxic environmental conditions.These sections serve as evidence suggesting a relationship between Cretaceous peridinioid cysts(including Palaeohystichphora infusorioides,Ovoidinium verrucosum,O.scabrosum)and anoxic/suboxic conditions and/or high primary productivity.The pollen spectrum inferred relatively stable vegetation patterns of surrounding continental areas during and after the Albian/Cenomanian boundary interval and the times of OAE 1d formation.The hinterland vegetation integrated mainly pteridophyte spores and gymnosperms.The area was part of the Southern Laurasian floral province which was characterized by warm temperate to subtropical humid climate.Angiosperms were still minor part of this vegetation. 展开更多

利用岩心及薄片分析、核磁共振、微米CT测试、层序格架下的等时追踪及古地貌恢复等方法,对阿联酋西部地区白垩系森诺曼阶高孔渗灰岩的沉积特征、层序及沉积演化特征和成岩作用进行了系统剖析,从构造-沉积-成岩多维度对高孔渗储层的控制... 利用岩心及薄片分析、核磁共振、微米CT测试、层序格架下的等时追踪及古地貌恢复等方法,对阿联酋西部地区白垩系森诺曼阶高孔渗灰岩的沉积特征、层序及沉积演化特征和成岩作用进行了系统剖析,从构造-沉积-成岩多维度对高孔渗储层的控制因素进行了研究。研究结果表明:①阿联酋西部地区森诺曼阶高孔渗灰岩储层主要分布于Mishrif组,岩性主要为亮晶厚壳蛤灰岩、亮晶生屑灰岩和泥晶生屑灰岩,储集空间主要为体腔孔、铸模孔和粒间溶孔;Mishrif组整体为碳酸盐岩缓坡沉积,可识别出内缓坡、中缓坡和外缓坡3类沉积亚相,厚壳蛤礁、高能滩、滩前、滩后、滩间及潟湖等6个微相;高孔渗储层主要发育于厚壳蛤礁微相和高能滩微相,其中,厚壳蛤礁微相优质储层孔隙度为20%~34%,渗透率为150~2000 mD,高能滩微相优质储层孔隙度为25%~33%,渗透率为40~370 mD。②研究区Mishrif组自下而上可分为3个三级层序SQ1—SQ3,可细分为7个体系域,SQ1—SQ2层序主要由高位体系域构成,厚壳蛤礁微相和高能滩微相规模较大;SQ3层序由高位体系域和海侵体系域构成,古地貌高部位发育高能滩微相且物性更好。③研究区Mishrif组高孔渗储层的孔隙发育受多期成岩作用叠合改造,包括以同生期大气淡水溶蚀为主的建设性成岩作用和与烃类充注相关的保持性成岩作用。④研究区Mishrif组高孔渗储层受沉积相、层序格架、古地貌格局以及成岩改造作用等多重因素控制;储层物性具有明显的相控特征,而沉积微相的分布与演化在Mishrif组沉积早—中期(SQ1—SQ2)受控于三级层序内部高位体系域旋回,在沉积晚期(SQ3)则受继承性古地貌影响。 展开更多

色度学方法在揭示未固结或半固结沉积物沉积时的古气候方面有着良好的应用,但成岩或成岩后演化对原岩成分的改造使得其在已成岩岩石中的应用还不多。文中以藏南定日贡扎剖面白垩系晚赛诺曼阶到早土仑阶的98件岩石样品为研究对象,应用色... 色度学方法在揭示未固结或半固结沉积物沉积时的古气候方面有着良好的应用,但成岩或成岩后演化对原岩成分的改造使得其在已成岩岩石中的应用还不多。文中以藏南定日贡扎剖面白垩系晚赛诺曼阶到早土仑阶的98件岩石样品为研究对象,应用色度学方法,并结合镜下观察和主量元素分析,得到以下的主要结论:(1)对样品的CIE1976L*a*b*色度空间分析显示,L*与a*的变化趋势呈镜像对称,通过快速傅里叶变换可识别出半周期分别为9.2m和1.8m的两个主周期;而L*与b*的变化趋势大致相同。(2)色度指标与主量元素的相关性分析表明,L*值与碳酸盐含量正向相关,b*值可能主要与Mn元素含量相关,L*和b*可以对古海洋化学条件做出一些制约;a*受粘土矿物含量制约,反映了古气候的变化。 展开更多
