The finished Al/CFs composite sheet has CFs and pure Al sheets as sandwich and surface layers. After cross-section observation of the Al/CFs composite sheet, we found that the CFs discretely distributed within the sandwich layer. Besides, the tensile test showed that the contribution of the sandwich CFs layer to tensile strength was less than 11% compared with annealed pure Al sheet. With ex-situ observation of the CFs breakage evolution with-16%,-32%, and-45% rolling reduction during the ARB process, the plastic instability of the Al layer was found to bring shear damages to the CFs. At last, the bridging strengthening mechanism introduced by CFs was sacrificed. We provide new insight into and instruction on Al/CFs composite sheet preparation method and processing parameters.展开更多

Erichsen test was conducted to study the interfacial adhesion of PTFE composites filled with carbon fibers treated with different treatment methods. Tribological properties of the PTFE composites, sliding against GCr15 steel under water-lubricated condition, were investigated on a reciprocating ball-on-disk UMT-2MT tribometer. The worn surfaces of the composites were examined using scanning electron microscopy. Experimental results reveal that RE treatment is superior to air oxidation in promoting tribological properties of CF reinforced PTFE (CF/PTFE) composite. The friction and wear properties of PTFE composite filled with RE treated CF are the best of the PTFE composites. RE treatment is more effective than air oxidation to improve the tribological properties of CF/PTFE composite owing to the effective improvement of interfacial adhesion between carbon fibers and PTFE matrix.展开更多

Experimental results revealed that RE treated CF reinforced PTFE (CF/PTFE) composite had the lowest friction coefficient and wear under various applied loads and sliding speeds compared with untreated and air-oxidated composites. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) study of carbon fiber surface showed that, after RE treatment, oxygen concentration increased obviously, and the amount of oxygen-containing groups on CF surfaces were largely increased. The increase in the amount of oxygen-containing groups enhanced interfacial adhesion between CF and PTFE matrix. With strong interfacial adhesion of the composite, stress could be effectively transmitted to carbon fibers; carbon fibers were strongly bonded with VITE matrix, and large scale rubbing-off of PTFE be prevented, therefore, tribological properties of the composite was improved.展开更多

Ti and Cr were doped to the Cu alloy to improve the wettability between Cu and carbon. The microstrueture was investigated by XRD, SEM and EDS. The arc erosion rate of Cf/Cu composite was investigated in vacuum. The results showed that the Ti and Cr could improve the wettability between Cu and C/C preform and the infiltration ability of Cu into C/ C preform greatly. A TiC interface formed between the fibers and matrix. The good bonding between the fiber and matrix guaranteed that part of the Cu matrix can still be bonded on the fibers even when the material was exposed to the plasma. Consequently, the carbon fibers were protected from the erosion. In comparison, Cu was completely consumed by the arc erosion. Hence, the graphite was eroded and presented a cauliflower-like morphology. Therefore, the prepared C/Cu bad better ability to resist the arc erosion, compared with common Cu-C material.展开更多

Ridge-like coatings were found by scanning electro microscope (SEM) observations, and the Al matrix and carbon fibre reinforcement were both coated with Ce conversion coatings, with some minor cracks. Based on the similarity between Mg2Si and Si phases in crystalline structure and crystallization process, the present study investigated the effects of different concentrations of Bi on the microstructure, tensile properties, and fracture behavior of cast Al-15wt.%Mg2Si in-situ metal matrix composite. The results show that the addition of the proper amount of Bi has a significant modification effect on both primary and eutectic Mg2Si in the Al-15wt.%Mg2Si composite. With an increase in Bi content from 0 to lwt.%, the morphology of the primary Mg2Si is changed from irregular or dendritic to polyhedral shape; and its average particle size is significantly decreased from 70 to 6 μm. Moreover, the morphology of the eutectic Mg2Si phase is altered from flake-like to very short fibrous or dot-like. When the Bi addition exceeds 4.0wt.%, the primary Mg2Si becomes coarse again. However, the eutectic Mg2Si still exhibits the modified morphology. Tensile tests reveal that the Bi addition can improve the tensile strength and ductility of the material. Compared with those of the unmodified composite, the ultimate tensile strength and percentage elongation after fracture with 1.0wt.% Bi increase 51.2% and 100%, respectively. At the same time, the Bi addition changes the fracture behavior from brittle to ductile.展开更多

The technology of aluminum/copper clad composite fabricated by casting-cold extrusion was simulated by DEFORM software using tubes with four arc grooves. The stress and strain in different deformation zones were analyzed. The groove size reduces gradually and the groove shape drives to triangle during the extrusion procedure. The maximum values of equivalent effective stress and radial stress appear in groove zones, and the maximum equivalent effective strain firstly is obtained also in groove zones. The grain size in groove zones is less than that in other zones. The experimental results are consistent with simulation results, which prove that the copper tubes with sketch section are favorable to the metallurgy bond of boundary interface between aluminum and copper.展开更多

The advantage of this technique was that the particle sizes and morphology can be controlled by the melt reaction. Therefore, the technique can be designed to obtain expected properties, such as high strength at high and room temperatures, high damping capacity, high modulus and good fatigue life. Results showed that in the as-cast state of A356 alloy and TiB2/A356 composites, the eutectic Si phase is normally in the needle shape, and TiB2 particles are mostly in the cubic or near spherical shape, with the size ranging from 30 to 500 nm uniformly distributed in the grains. Also, TiB2 particle clusters are observed in composites. With an increase in TiB2 particles, the average grain size of composites decreases both in as-cast and T6 state. It is found that both the yield stength and ultimate tensile strength increase with an increase in the TiB2 volume fraction. On the contrary, the elongation reduces with the addition of TiB2 particles. Based on the experimental results and Clyne's report, a revised model related to particle strengthening mechanism was proposed to fairly predict yield strengths of TiBJA356 composites. The satisfactory agreement between the calculated values and experimental data reported in the literature was obtained.展开更多

To realize the homogeneous distribution of SiC particles in stir-casting Al-SiC composite, semisolid stir casting of Al-4.25 vol.%SiC composite was conducted using a special electromagneticmechanical stirring equipment made by our team, in which there are three uniformly-distributed blades with a horizontal tilt angle of 25 ° to mechanically raise the SiC particles by creating an upward movement of slurry under electromagnetic stirring. The microstructure of the as-cast Al-SiC composites was observed by Scanning Electron Mcroscopy(SEM). The volume fraction of SiC particles was measured by image analysis using the Quantimet 520 Image Processing and Analysis System. The tensile strength of the Al-4.25 vol.%SiC composites was measured by tensile testing. Results show that the Al-4.25 vol.%SiC composites with the homogeneous distrbutin of SiC particles can be obtained by the electromagnetic-mechanical stirring casting with the speed of 300 and 600 r·min-1 at 620 °C. The differences between the volume fraction of Si C particles at the top of ingot and that at the bottom are both ~0.04 vol.% with the stirring speed of 300 and 600 r·min-1, which are so small that the distribution of SiC particles can be seen as the homogeneous. The tensile strength of the Al matrix is enhanced by 51.2% due to the uniformly distributed SiC particles. The porosity of the composite mainly results from the solidification shrinkage of slurry and it is less than 0.04 vol.%.展开更多

文摘Carbon fiber reinforced silicon carbide matrix(Cf/SiC)composites have the most potential application for high-temperature components of aerospace high-end equipment. However, high cutting temperature, rapid tool wear and severe surface damages are the main problems in dry cutting Cf/SiC composites process. The feasibility study on cryogenic milling of Cf/SiC composites using liquid nitrogen as coolant is investigated.Influences of milling parameters and coolant on temperature, cutting force, surface quality and tool wear are investigated, which is compared with dry cutting.Experimental results reveal that the cutting temperature in cryogenic milling of Cf/SiC composites is reduced by about 40%—60%compared with dry cutting. The milling force increases gradually with the increase of spindle speed, feed rate, depth and width of milling in cryogenic milling process. In addition, the machined surface quality in cryogenic milling is superior to that in dry cutting process.Fiber fracture, matrix damage and fiber matrix debonding are main material removal mechanisms.Flank face wear is the main wear form of the polycrystalline diamond(PCD)end mills. The tool life is prolonged in the cryogenic milling process because the reduced temperature inhibits the softening of Co binder and phase transition of diamond in the PCD end mills.
文摘Vacuum brazing experiments of Cf/C composites were carried out using pure Al and Al-5 Ti-B as brazing fillers , and shearing strength of the joints was measured. The microstructures of the brazed joints were studied by means of scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer. The results indicate that the brazing temperature is the important processing parameter affecting the quality of the brazed joints. Vacuum brazing of Cf/C composites can be achieved employing the pure Al and AI-S Ti-B brazing fillers at a brazing temperature of 730 ℃ or 750 ℃ , respectively. Moreover, the joints have excellent microstructures with shear strength reaching the level of practical applications.
文摘Casting-cold extrusion technology was presented to fabricate alttminum/copper clad composite, and copper tubes with different sketch sections were designed. The experimental results are consistent with simulation results, which prove that the copper tubes with sketch section are favorable to the metallurgy bond of boundary interface between aluminum and copper.
文摘The in-situ TiB2/A356 composites were successfully synthesized through the mixed salt reaction method. The satisfactory agreement between the calculated values and experimental data reported in the literature was obtained.

文摘The distribution of SiC particles in Al-SiC composite can greatly influence the mechanical performances of Al-SiC composite. The porosity of the composite mainly results from the solidification shrinkage of slurry and it is less than 0.04 vol.%.
