With over 30 years of reform and opening-up, China's economy experienced high-speed growth for a sustained period, but China is still confronted with many obstacles which call for immediate attention, such as shortage of resources, deterioration of the environment, structural imbalance, and intensified social conflict. If these problems persist, an ominous future would not be avoided unless an economic transformation was in effect. As China's economic power and international influence increase, its economic transformation will significantly impact not only its domestic economy, but also the world economy. This article analyzes the transformation of China's economy from an international perspective, particularly focuses on the relationship between China's transformation and the economies of most developed countries (e.g., United States and EU) by comparing data and analyzing impacts caused by each other. At the end, the article will provide some suggestions for further research.展开更多

As the global financial crisis begins to abate, some Western countries have used "global economic rebalancing" as an excuse for trade protectionism and restricting the foreign economic development of developing nations. As the basic theoretical justification for the "global economic imbalance," the theory of international trade equilibrium is wrong both in theory and in practice, because it has never been proven in the 200 years of history since the Industrial Revolution. "Global economic rebalancing" contains serious policy traps and does not generate any winners. The exchange rate is only one of the)actors which affect international trade;furthermore, it is not the fundamental mechanism. With the U.S. dollar retaining its status as the key currency of the international monetary system, it is impossible for the United States to achieve long-term foreign economic and trade equilibrium. The United States' trade deficit is an inevitable result of the dollar's status as an international currency.展开更多

A common challenge across most economies is to revive private-sector credit growth. Compared with the high increases of 80 percent in the period immediately prior to the crisis, credit growth has slowed sharply and even turned negative in real terms in a number of economies. Governments in many countries have taken measures to address banking sector stress. The measures for restoring credit growth and thus a high economic growth will be discussed in a part of our work. In the short run, such measures include aiding banks to repair balance sheets and also providing liquidity. In the medium term, measures should promote de-dollarization and the development of local debt markets.展开更多

This paper argues against establishing such global ETS for the following reasons: (1) a global ETS may assist developed countries in cutting emissions abatement cost, but it may also result in deterioration in the welfare of developing countries; (2) each nation participating in providing global public goods shall be dedicated to forming "Lindahl equilibrium" under the principle of common but differentiated responsibility, rather than the "Walrasian equilibrium ", which is represented in a global ETS," (3) the establishment of a global ETS has its driving forces as it is seen as a preferred regulatory form for industrial special interest groups in developed economies, since its benefits is biased rather than promoting global economic and environmental efficiency; and (4) the developing countries shouM be more cautious when designing tools of climate policies and need to avoid to be locked in emission trading systems.展开更多

It particularly attempts to account for the influence of religion over the work ethic of these entrepreneurs, popularly known as "Anatolian Tigers". To achieve the goals of this research, in-depth interviews were held with 30 Turkish business people from religious and secular backgrounds. The new pious middle class is engaged in forming its own path of modernity by directly addressing the needs that are ignored by the secular republican project and its elites. The case of Turkey indicates that Westernization is not the only possible path to modernity. This new development, if it indeed continues, may prove to be one of the most important transformations determining the future of Turkey. Numerous books and articles have been published on Islamic economics but there is no details works on which provide a qualitative overview of the dynamics for the evolution of Turkish "Islamic capital". There has been little published material which assesses the acceptability of a pro-oriented system of ~conomic life to the values and moral code of the Turkish people. The Turkish situation offers a comprehensive picture of what Islamic capital can encompass, such as Islamic partnerships, holdings, banks, and business associations, and also how it can be effectively integrated within the democratic framework by adapting a "Muslim ethics" compatible with capitalism. The main aims of this study are to evaluate the social, economic, and the cultural factors, which contributed to the development of these "Islamist Calvinists" and their economic organizations in Central Anatolia. The result of this study shows the compatibility of the work ethic of pious entrepreneurs with capitalism in the case of Kayseri. This paper also illustrates the impact of local heritage and Islamic religious values on modern economic activity.展开更多
