Especially in his remarks at the University of Texas at Austin, he portrayed the presence of China and Russia in LAC as a "new imperial power" and called on nations of Latin America and the Caribbean to review and reassess China-LAC relations. By identifying China and Russia as critical reference variables for future U.S.- Latin America relations, he obviously went beyond the bilateral level of U.S.- Latin relations and implied the important changes in U.S. policy toward LAC that pressured by growing influence of extra-regional actors in LAC, the United States might strengthen its diplomatic efforts in LAC to maintain and consolidate its dominance in the region.展开更多

Through content analysis, this study examines general requirements, core public relations courses, requirements of public relations programs and strategic communication programs, and optional public relations courses offered by the colleges. The findings of this study reveal that very few public relations programs offer courses involving new media, crisis communication, and PR ethics. In order to keep in touch with the fast-changing public relations landscape, more PR programs should require and integrate new media, crisis communication and ethics courses.展开更多

In order to achieve this objective, it first reviews the literature on the internationalization of Chinese MNCs, the theoretical frameworks discussed in the literature and the principal features of companies from China. Second, it describes the economic and political relations between the countries, specifically the threats and opportunities for Latin America and the trade and investment trends. The review shows that the majority of the current literature on Chinese MNCs has a focus on their expansion to developed countries, on the conceptual framework needed to understand this expansion, and on the competition for foreign investments from developed countries. As a result, the analysis makes evident that research gaps seem to exist in the following areas: (1) the relative value of Chinese companies' existing advantages, (2) the sustainability of these advantages once the lead, probably given by OEMs or JVs, had been exhausted, (3) research works based on quantitative and comparative data, (4) the motives for FDI, (5) the entry mode, configuration, control and strategy of Chinese companies investing in Latin America, and (6) the potential opportunities presented to European companies operating in Latin America.展开更多
