Shift-share Analysis on International Tourism Competitiveness——A Case of Jiangsu Province 被引量:9

Shift-share analysis has been confirmed a useful approach in the study of regional economics and many kinds of extended shift-share models have been advanced and put into practice in economic studies, but few have hitherto been introduced and applied to the tourism research in China. Moreover understanding the spatially competitive relationship is of paramount importance for marketers, developers, and planners involved in tourism strategy development. Based on international tourism receipts from 1995 to 2004, this study aims at probing into the spatial competitiveness of interna- tional tourism in Jiangsu Province in comparison with its neighbors by applying a spatially extended shift-share model and a modified dynamic shift-share model. The empirical results illustrate that exceptional years may exist in the ap- plication of dynamic shift-share models. To solve this issue, modifications to dynamic shift-share model are put forward. The analytical results are not only presented but also explained by the comparison of background conditions of tourism development between Jiangsu and its key competitors. The conclusions can be drawn that the growth of international tourism receipts in Jiangsu mainly attributes to the national component and the competitive component and Zhejiang is the most important rival to Jiangsu during the period of 1995-2004. In order to upgrade the tourism competitiveness, it is indispensable for Jiangsu to take proper positioning, promoting and marketing strategies and to cooperate and integrate with its main rivals. 展开更多

The article establishes the appraisal index system for entire urban agglomeration and its interior cities individually,concretely including five aspects:driving forces for tourism development,the level of tourism development,tourism impacts,tourism economic connection and tourism contributions of different cities to the whole urban agglomeration.As tourism competitiveness has the characteristics of comprehensiveness,systematicness and dynamicness,the article attempts to apply the structural prediction means of system dynamics to evaluating tourism competitiveness,aiming to provide some research methods and analysis ideas for tourism competitiveness measurement and trends analysis in urban agglomeration.Taking Shandong Peninsula urban agglomeration as the study area,the article simulates and analyzes the tourism competitiveness trend of the whole region and its interior cities from 2005 to 2020,and the result reflects that integrated development and regional combination of tourism are important means to upgrade tourism competitiveness in this region. 展开更多

As the importance of tourism economy for a region's economic development is standing out,tourism competitiveness becomes an important indicator to measure a region's economic development.In this paper,based on the related researches of other scholars,with the data from the China Tourism Statistical Yearbook as the basic support,a tourism competitiveness system covering 44 indicators of 6 items including industry scale competitiveness,consumption competitiveness,extraversion competitiveness and industry development competitiveness was constructed,and the competitiveness of 31 provinces and cities in China during 1996 and 2004 was comparatively studied.It was found that there were obvious differences among the tourism competitiveness of different provinces,and generally speaking,the comprehensive competitiveness showed a two-way development trend;from the view of the individual competitiveness,the scale competitiveness of the tourism showed a polarization trend;there were obvious changes in the consumption competitiveness;the extraversion as a whole has been improved;the industry development competitiveness has been steadily promoted;the reception ability of different provinces differed greatly and the advantages of scientific and technological progress was becoming more and more significant. 展开更多

The tourism competitiveness of the cities around the Beibu Gulf was studied using the entropy method from the perspective of the 14 indexes of tourism current competitiveness,tourism support competitiveness and tourism potential competitiveness.The results show that the cities of Sanya,Nanning and Haikou have the stronger competitiveness;the cities of Zhanjiang,Beihai,Chongzuo and Maoming have moderate competitiveness;and the cities of Yulin,Qinzhou,Yangjiang and Fangchenggang have the weak competitiveness.According to the analysis of the index weight and comprehensive ranking,almost each aspect contributes to the city competitiveness.The index weights of the tourism current competitiveness,tourism support competitiveness and tourism potential competitiveness are 0.27222,0.3938 and 0.33398,respectively.Based on the niche theory,the article put forward the strategies:dislocation development,balanced development and regional tourism competition and cooperation development. 展开更多

After analysis of characteristics of Bama rural health-caring tourism,it had highlighted monopolisticness of longevity culture,diversity of tourist resources,and harmony between human and nature.The paper pointed out that,to accelerate new countryside construction of Bama rural health-caring tourism,it should realize nearby employment and increase farmers' income;complete construction of rural basic facilities;ameliorate rural sanitary condition and transform villagers' thought;promote adjustment of rural industrial structure;and establish protection mechanism of longevous people.After survey on development of Bama rural tourism,it concluded bottlenecks restricting Bama rural tourism development,which were that environment at longevity area had suffered pollution;that the development was disordered and lacked of management;and that basic facilities waited for improvement.On this basis,approaches for improvement of competitiveness of Bama health-caring tourism had been proposed.It emphasized that it should enhance protection of longevity tourist resources,build farmhouse inn demonstration base,implement admittance system,establish community health-care system,beneficial to realizing economic,social and ecological benefits,and further manifesting its exuberant vitality. 展开更多

The study of tourism competitiveness has been focused on different factors that can enhance the prosperity of a destination. One of these factors is innovation. Innovation makes destination's enterprises more advanced and efficient, therefore more productive. Innovation is an enhancer of competitiveness and a generator of prosperity because innovation in every aspect (technology, knowledge, organization, and processes) will provide a better quality of life for the inhabitants of the destination. The incidence of innovation on these concepts is validated by a structural equation model. We measure innovation by a range of indicators and through a factor analysis; we get the most relevant indicators of innovation for the model developed in Spain. 展开更多

The theoretical discourse focuses on unscrambling the differences between public management and private management, while new tools and techniques have been provided by recent trends in public management. This paper centers on a critical analysis and what the purpose of the government's management is; which refers to consolidate the Gulf of Morrosquillo (Colombia) as a competitive tourism destination for it to be as relevant as any other tourism destinations. Even though public management never stops, it is imperative for the governance to delineate the appropriate development path of a region to guarantee the correct conditions for it to be promoted properly. Methodologically speaking, this paper was started with the revision of the literature about the macro-environment related to touristic activities and an instrument was used to collect the information, which was designed to gather data about the lodging establishments. It is necessary to raise the awareness of the public management of the different municipalities that form the Gulf of Morrosquillo for them to acknowledge their weaknesses so that they will be able to formulate the appropriate programs to improve the estate of the destination. 展开更多

The scope of the present paper is the research of whether the prefecture of Pieria comprises an attractive destination for religious tourism and pilgrimage.For this reason,the use of questionnaires takes place which aims to realizing if and to what extend this form of tourism comprises a comparative and competitive advantage for the prefecture of Pieria.The research method of this paper is the qualitative research and more specifically the use of questionnaires with 13 questions in total.The scope was to research whether the prefecture of Pieria is a religious-pilgrimage destination.The sample is comprised of 102 participants,being Greek residents originating from other Greek counties,the European Union,and Third World Countries.The requirement was for the participant to have visited the prefecture of Pieria.The independency test(x2)was used for checking the interconnections between the different factors,while at the same time an allocation of frequencies was conducted based on the study and presentation of frequency as much as relevant frequency.Due to the fact that,no other similar former researches have been conducted regarding religious tourism in Pieria,this research will be able to give some useful conclusions.These conclusions will lead us to more specialized knowledge on the tourism of the under study prefecture. 展开更多

This work aims to introduce a conceptual approach to determining the competitive environment for a particular tourist destination by considering popular outbound destinations of its leading segments.This approach we name as a concept of a segment-centered geo-competitive environment of a tourism destination(SGE-TD).The applied methodology includes consideration of the popularity of tourist destinations for each selected segment and the indicators of leading segments of the studied destination.The practical application of the proposed concept is examined in the case of Georgia as a tourist destination by selecting its leading segments and identifying their popular travel destinations.The integrated consideration and application of the mentioned indicators define the competitive position of a destination(in this case Georgia)among the specified tourism destinations,considered as the geo-competitive environment.This research suggests an innovative version of the universal conceptual approach to identify the leading competing destinations for a specific studied one.It fills the gap in similar studies where competing destinations for the analysis are selected based on specific research objectives,missing the universal conceptual approach in this regard. 展开更多

Normative Versus Perceptual Gap Analysis of Hotel Product Quality as a Service to Tourism in Kenya

Kenya's tourism business stagnated from 1991 to 2003 and only registered small but steady grew from 2004. One of the sectors that recorded poor performance as a result of the slow growth of tourism is the hotel business. Despite this slack, stakeholders in Kenya have not tried to assess the extent to which the quality of this sector may impact on destination preference. The ultimate purpose of this research was to establish the quality gap between the expected and the perceived hotel product/service quality from both the perspective of the tourists and the hotel operators in Kenya. It was motivated by the need to create parameters that can elavate the competitiveness of Kenya's tourism using the hotel product/service quality offer. Descriptive quantitative research design was used to establish the secondary objectives and to assess two propositions set for the study. A sample of 211 tourists and 19 hotel operators in two major tourist provinces of Kenya was used to obtain information regarding normative and perceptive hotel product/service quality. Kenya's only destination marketing organisation, Kenya Tourist Board (KTB) marketers were also surveyed to provide insight on Kenya's destination position with regard to the motivation of tourists to visit Kenya. The study established that although the attractions which make tourists come to Kenya are the unique wildlife safari, beach tourism and the natural scenery, hotel product quality and hospitality plays a vital role in motivating tourists to choose Kenya as the destination to visit. However, this study found out that while the tourists and hotel operators agree on the normative hotel product quality level, there is a significant gap between the normative quality and the perceptual quality registered by tourists who used hotel services. The study established that hotel operators only recognize quality regulatory institutions with statutory and legal authority to incriminate facilities that do not comply with laid down operational requirements such as Hotels and Restaurants Authority and the Local Authority Public Health Department. The study has proposed an integrated framework that may be utilized to build a superior national hotel product/service quality so that the economic potential of tourism is maximized in Kenya. 展开更多

大力发展边境旅游能有效助推边境少数民族地区实现兴边富民。从基础条件竞争力、现状发展竞争力、富民竞争力和潜力竞争力四个维度构建边境县域旅游竞争力评价体系。采用因子分析和聚类分析,对云南省9个边境少数民族自治县县域旅游竞争... 大力发展边境旅游能有效助推边境少数民族地区实现兴边富民。从基础条件竞争力、现状发展竞争力、富民竞争力和潜力竞争力四个维度构建边境县域旅游竞争力评价体系。采用因子分析和聚类分析,对云南省9个边境少数民族自治县县域旅游竞争力进行测度和聚类。结果表明:边境旅游强竞争力县域有河口县、耿马县、金平县;边境旅游较强竞争力县域有澜沧县、孟连县和江城县;边境旅游弱竞争力县域有西盟县、沧源县和贡山县,究其原因是各边境少数民族自治县在旅游资源基础和政府扶持政策及县域经济发展水平方面存在差距。云南省边境少数民族地区旅游业仍有较大发展空间和发展潜力,未来发展应注重改善基础设施,创造开放发展条件;依托少数民族特色,开发人文资源;加强县域间合作,形成联动发展。 展开更多
