This paper examines the metaphorical part of“The Jade King:History of a Chinese Muslim Family”,Hoda’s novel, under the guidance of Newmark’s theory of metaphor.Newmark proposes six categories of metaphors, namely Dead Metaphor,ClichéMetaphor,Stock or Standard Metaphor,Adapted Metaphor,Recent Metaphor,Original Metaphor;and seven strategies of metaphor translation, including reproducing the same image in the target language, replacing the image in the source language with a standard target language image, translation of metaphor by simile, translation of metaphor(or simile)by simile plus sense, conversion of metaphor to sense, deletion and same metaphor combined with sense. They can provide a strong theoretical support for analyzing the expressions of metaphors in novels and their translation methods.By deeply analyzing the expressions of metaphor and its translation methods in novels,it not only helps to understand the metaphorical meaning and cultural connotation of the original works, but also helps to explore the cultural differences and challenges faced by English and Chinese bilingualism in the process of metaphor translation, thereby significantly improving the translation level and promoting the development of translation research. 展开更多

Respiratory virus infection was the most common viral infection in clinical practice with the greatest impact, including the Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2),posing a huge threat to the world's public health and human life safety.Commonly used antiviral drugs have obvious side effects and a narrow scope of application.Respiratory viruses are susceptible to infection, mutation, and prevalence, which also pose challenges to traditional antiviral drugs and vaccine development.Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)has a long history of treating infectious diseases, with many herbs and compounds. Its multi-component,multi-target and multi-path characteristics have made it have great advantages and potential in the development of new anti-respiratory virus drugs. This review summarized TCM for the prevention and treatment of common respiratory viruses, and provided new strategies for the research and development of new TCM antiviral drugs and for responding to infectious respiratory virus diseases. 展开更多

Novelist has a mission to shape the characters. The reason that Chinese classic novels have amazing artistic charm and immortal literary value ultimately lies in the diverse and distinctive characters that created by the author. From Jingwei and Kua Fu in the early myths to Jia Baoyu and Lin Daiyu in classical novels of mature period, the characters have been talked about for many years. Through the typical image, the author deduces a section of joys and sorrows to the reader, showing the bizarre society. When making interpretation of characters in the ancient novel, we should both root in the social context but also pay attention to authors' appraise attitude. Because contemporary readers can not be out of real background, and also be allowed to make a reasonable re-interpretation, in order to make a more accurate, objective and comprehensive grasp of the characters in classical novels. 展开更多

The dawn of the 21st century saw images of intellectuals in novels change in a drastic way.Intellectuals, and those in the humanities in particular, are no longer portrayed as privileged Enlightenment thinkers or sages with Confucian ideas of salvation. In the novels that take intellectuals as their subject matters, such characters often end up involved in betrayal,self-exile,or spiritual/mortal death. This is not a historical process, nor an inevitable course for intellectuals to be sure, but it remains a legitimate question to ask why these fictional intellectuals are becoming, more often than not,new tragic heroes. Why are they becoming misfits in their society and ending up in exile, abandonment, and even death? The present paper examines different images of intellectuals and the makings of their destinies. 展开更多

Since the mid-1980s Chinese calligraphy art has undergone a radical change and has opened itself to experimentation. A vivid debate on CCC (Contemporary Chinese Calligraphy) (Zhongguo xiandai shufa) is involving art critics in China nowadays. WANG Dongling and the modernists think that, despite many changes and influences, we can still refer to the traditional calligraphic lexicon to describe the calligraphic production of contemporary Chinese art. They still remain deeply rooted in the signified system of Chinese writing, even if they break with the strict rules of Chinese classical aesthetic (contamination of Western elements and focus on the stylistic exploration). WANG Nanming and the Avant-garde think that "contemporary calligraphy is not calligraphy yet": It is "anti-calligraphy", annihilates Chinese tradition, rejects the use of legible characters, experiments with new languages and new media within the idiom of international contemporary art. The result is the creation of works of art that could be assimilated to Abstract art, Abstract expressionism, Conceptual art, Performance art, Contemporary dance, Multimedia art, and even Street art. This paper aims at showing how still valid and extremely productive are both these two theoretical and creative/practical approaches to Chinese calligraphy in China nowadays. They turned the art of calligraphy into a medium for global comprehension and communication. 展开更多

The category of^epidemic diseases^is discussed extensively in the literature of traditional Chinese medicine, however it is often overlooked in modern Chinese medicine education precisely because population-level prevention and treatment do not fit easily into the dogma that individualized herbal formulas“based on patterns identified”is the primary mode of clinical reasoning in Chinese medicine. In the recent COVID-19 epidemic, the contingencies of treating large numbers of patients meant that it was not possible to provide“one prescription for each patient.”In fact, four categories of patients were sometimes given the same formula:mild and moderate confirmed cases, close contacts of confirmed cases, and suspected cases. The lines between prevention and treatment, along with clear demarcations between individual and population-level immunity, were blurred in the mist of the urgent imperative to provide what could reasonably be expected to be effective.Lessons from the large-scale participation of Chinese medicine in the COVID-19 public health crisis are relevant for the global community of Chinese medicine practitioners and may provide insights into how future epidemics could be addressed in the absence of effective vaccines or pharmaceuticals. 展开更多

Background:Shengmai decoction, which has been included in the diagnosis and treatment of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19),is effective in the early treatment of patients with severe COVID-19.Yiqi Fumai lyophilized injection(YQFM)is a modern Chinese medicine preparation of the Shengmai decoction. The mechanism of its intervention at the molecular level in the severe stage of COVID-19 remains unclear. Therefore,it is necessary to investigate the mechanism of YQFM in the treatment of patients with severe COVID-19.Methods:The corresponding target genes of the main active ingredients in YQFM and COVID-19 were obtained by using multiple databases and literature retrieval.A protein-protein interaction network was constructed, and enrichment analysis of the target was performed using Cytoscape 3.8.1.Lastly,the docking of all the identified compounds with angiotensin-converting enzyme II was confirmed by applying molecular docking technology. Results:YQFM has anti-inflammatory effects on RAW267.4 macrophages. The main active compounds of YQFM are all effective anti-inflammatory agents, and these active compounds also show beneficial physiological functions, such as anti-oxidation,anti-bacterial,and anticancer activities.Gene Ontology analysis showed enrichment in the following pathways:lipopolysaccharides,interleukins,NF-kappa B,interleukin-2 and others, revealing that YQFM may play a role in the treatment of patients with severe COVID-19 through these pathways. Conclusion:YQFM has multicomponent and multitarget characteristics, and it could reduce lung injury by inhibiting inflammatory reactions, promoting antiviral activities, and regulating immunity, among other functions,to treat patients with severe COVID-19. 展开更多
