Construction of Chinese Learning Mode for Overseas Students in Higher Vocational Colleges under the Background of the Belt and Road Initiative

With the deepening of exchanges between China and other countries,especially the proposal of the Belt and Road Initiative,more and more foreign students come to China to study,putting forward higher requirements for the education and management of colleges and universities in China.In the process of implementing the strategy of"one belt and one road",language interaction is the basic prerequisite for achieving exchanges and cooperation among different countries.In the face of this situation,by analyzing the existing problems in the training of overseas students in higher vocational colleges in China under the background of"One Belt and One Road"strategy,in this paper,the construction of the Chinese learning mode for overseas students in higher vocational colleges was put forward,hoping to provide help for the training of overseas students and solve the problem of foreign students'language learning.

Learning Strategies, Motivation and Learners' Perspectives on Online Multimodal Chinese Learning

This mixed-method empirical study investigated the role of learning strategies and motivation in predicting L2 Chinese learning outcomes in an online multimodal learning environment.Both quantitative and qualitative approaches also examined the learners'perspectives on online multimodal Chinese learning.The participants in this study were fifteen pre-intermediate adult Chinese learners aged 18-26.They were originally from different countries(Spain,Italy,Argentina,Colombia,and Mexico)and lived in Barcelona.They were multilingual,speaking more than two European languages,without exposure to any other Asian languages apart from Chinese.The study's investigation was composed of Strategy Inventory for Language Learning(SILL),motivation questionnaire,learner perception questionnaire,and focus group interview.The whole trial period lasted three months;after the experiment,the statistics were analyzed via the Spearman correlation coefficient.The statistical analysis results showed that strategy use was highly correlated with online multimodal Chinese learning outcomes;this indicated that strategy use played a vital role in online multimodal Chinese learning.Motivation was also found to have a significant effect.The perception questionnaire uncovered that the students were overall satisfied and favoring the online multimodal learning experience design.The detailed insights from the participants were exhibited in the transcripted analysis of focus group interviews.

An Analysis on Students’Chinese Learning Needs of Confucius Institute at Hasanuddin University,Indonesia

Hasanuddin University in Indonesia through a questionnaire,the key point is to understand the learning needs of students and to make suggestions for optimizing the curriculum and teaching methods of Chinese teachers.Due to the limited time and conditions,there are some deficiencies in this study.As there are many factors affecting the learning needs,the questionnaire may not cover the whole content,it can only reflect the learning needs of learners,and cannot be used as an accurate measure.The study focused on comprehensive learning needs,so it was not compare the learning needs of students from the two teaching sites,nor was it compare the learning needs of male and female learners,these questions also require precise analysis by subsequent researchers.In addition,although the optimization of the proposal has a certain practicality,but still need to practice and improve.

Survey and Analysis of Chinese Learning Needs of International Students-A Case Study of International Students Majoring in MBA and MPA in a College of The Belt and Road

This study investigated the Chinese learning motivation,learning goals and learning strategies of 26 international students majoring in MBA and MPA at a university with The belt and road college,mainly by questionnaire and interview method,supplemented by classroom observation method.The survey found that 20 of the 24 international students were zero-start Chinese learners,and their learning motivation was mainly"instrumental"and"intrinsic",and they had high enthusiasm for Chinese language and Chinese culture.They have a high enthusiasm for Chinese language and culture,and will actively solve the difficulties they encounter in learning Chinese.At the same time,this study conducted a questionnaire survey on the needs of international students in terms of curriculum and content,teaching materials,teaching assessment and extracurricular activities,combined with the results of individual and group interviews and classroom observations,to summarize the real needs of international students in various aspects of Chinese language learning,so as to provide teaching reference for teachers teaching international students,and to provide a reference for colleges and universities to develop Chinese teaching programs.The survey will provide a basis for the colleges and universities to formulate Chinese teaching programs and coordinate teaching activities,so as to help international students learn Chinese better.

Processing Chinese hand-radicals activates the medial frontal gyrus A functional MRI investigation

Embodied semantics theory asserts that the meaning of action-related words is neurally represented through networks that overlap with or are identical to networks involved in sensory-motor processing. While some studies supporting this theory have focused on Chinese characters, less attention has been paid to their semantic radicals. Indeed, there is still disagreement about whether these radicals are processed independently. The present study investigated whether radicals are processed separately and, if so, whether this processing occurs in sensory-motor regions. Materials consisted of 72 high-frequency Chinese characters, with 18 in each of four categories： hand-action verbs with and without hand-radicals, and verbs not related to hand actions, with and without hand-radicals. Twenty-eight participants underwent functional MRI scans while reading the characters. Compared to characters without hand-radicals, reading characters with hand-radicals activated the right medial frontal gyrus. Verbs involving hand-action activated the left inferior parietal lobule, possibly reflecting integration of information in the radical with the semantic meaning of the verb. The findings may be consistent with embodied semantics theory and suggest that neural representation of radicals is indispensable in processing Chinese characters.

Producing Podcasts in a Chinese Classroom: A Digital Humanities Project

This action research which situates itself in the context of Digital Humanities focuses on engaging students of Introductory Chinese course with an assignment to create podcasts in the form of an interview.Requiring students to integrate the aural,oral,and textural information via technology so as to carry a conversation with an interlocutor challenges them to convey their thoughts from the language they think in into meaningful ideas using the target language.In this way,students are“pushed”to convert their listening,speaking,and writing from being isolated components into a more dynamic and cohesive mode of communicating.As they explore expressing their ideas in the language they are learning,they develop the skills and sensibility needed to critically analyze their own work.Although limited in scale,the podcast format urges students to transform what they need to learn into a familiar product.
