This paper introduces the internationalization of traditional Chinese medicine into the western world.Internationalization of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)into the Western world is not a simple or easy task.Its exposure and exportation into the rest of the world should be a task taken on with a special focus and determination on staying strong along the way.Keeping the truth,strength,and integrity in TCM medicine as it is exported is the highest priority and the best way to promote it.Doing this will give it a solid foundation in its new land and for its new patients.Let’s study and analyze what really is required to help TCM avoid all problems and hardships of this exportation process as TCM goes west.

Renaissance of Chinese tradition and local styles

The charm of fashion is the constant changes of styles that lead people to a brand new vision or toa redivivus picture. In spring 2005, new designs that borrowed a lot from Chinese traditional apparel and local styles were the flavor of the fashion week. Styles and details typical of authentic Chinese taste took the lead.

This paper focuses on cultural conflicts,mainly conflicts of God oriented and people oriented world view,different view towards human nature- virtue culture and guilt culture,the theology that all are equal before God and hierarchical order tradition,monotheism and polytheism,conflict between the doctrine and the concept of clan,briefly,that between Chinese traditional culture and Christian doctrine in the process of the religion disseminating in China.It also touches upon the beneficial attributes of Chinese culture for the fusion of the two culture patterns.

Geographical origin discrimination and polysaccharides quantitative analysis of Radia codonopsis with micro near-infrared spectrometer engine

At present,Tradition Chinese Medicine(TCM)industry in China is in the stage from the empirical development to industrial production.Near infrared(NIR)spectroscopy has been widely used in the quality control of TCM's modernization with its characteristics incuding rapidness,nondestruction,simplicity,economy,and so on.In this study,as one type of a portable micro NIR spectrometer,Micro NIR 1700 was used to establish the qualitative models for identification of geographical region and authenticity of Radix codonopsis based on discriminant analysis(DA)method.Both of the DA models had better predictive ability with 100%accuracy.In addition,a method for rapid quantitative analysis of polysaccharide in Radix codonopsis was also developed based on Micro NIR 1700 spectrometer with partial last-squares(PLS)algo-rithm.In the PLS calibration model,the NIR.spectra of samples were pretreated with different preprocessing methods and the spectral region was selected with different variable selection methods as well.The performance of the final PLS model was evaluated according to correlation cofficient of calibration(Rc),correlation coefficient of prediction(Rp),root mean squared error of cross validation(RMSECV),and root mean squared of prediction(RMSEP).The values of Re,Rp,RMSECV,and RMSEP were 0.9775,0.9602,2.496,and 2.734 g/mL,respectively.This work demonstrated that micro infrared spectrometer could be more convenient and rapid for quality control of Radix codonopsis,and the presented models would be a u1seful reference for quality control of other simi lar raw materials of TCM.

Gender and the Chinese Tradition of Translation

In the much-discussed Chinese tradition of translation,prominence was almost always given to men translators and translation thinkers,as though they were the entirety of the Chinese translation landscape.This essay discusses the work performed by Chinese women for centuries in the field of translation and translation discourse.Starting from an examination of the presence of women in the early Chinese translating/interpreting scene and an analysis of why and how that early presence was then discontinued,this essay focuses on modern and contemporary times when Chinese women re-entered,as it were,the translation stage,and such issues as the major characteristics of Chinese women translators,what kind of women’s voice there was in Chinese discourse on translation,and how Chinese women researchers have presented themselves in the contemporary Chinese TS field.Hopefully,insights may be revealed not only on the role of women translators/translation scholars as an integral component of the Chinese translation tradition,but also into how the gender issue may be most meaningfully addressed in TS research at large.

Therapeutic effects of herbal formula Huangqisan on metabolic disorders via SREBF1,SCD1 and AMPK signaling pathway

Objective:Metabolic syndrome is a complex medical condition that has become an alarming epidemic,but an effective therapy for this disease is still lacking.The use of the herbal formula Huangqisan(HQS)to treat diabetes is documented in the Chinese medical literature as early as 1117 A.D.;however,its therapeutic effects and underlying mechanisms remain elusive.Methods:To investigate the beneficial effects of HQS on metabolic disorders,high-fat diet-induced obesity(DIO),leptin receptor dysfunction(db/db)and low-density lipoprotein receptor-knockout(LDLR^(-/-))mice were used.Obese mice were treated with either HQS or vehicle.Blood,liver tissue,white fat tissue and brown adipose tissue were harvested at the end of the treatment.Metabolic disease-related parameters were evaluated to test effects of HQS against diabetes,obesity and hyperlipidemia.Aortic arches from LDLR^(-/-)mice were analyzed to investigate the effects of HQS on atherosclerosis.RNA-sequence,quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction and Western blot were performed to investigate the mechanisms of HQS against metabolic disorder.Results:HQS lowered body weight,fasting blood glucose and serum lipid levels and improved glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity in DIO mice and db/db mice(P<0.05).HQS also blocked atherosclerotic plaque formation in LDLR^(^(-/-)) mice.HQS suppressed de novo lipid synthesis by reducing the expression of messenger RNA for sterol regulatory element-binding factor 1,stearyl coenzyme A desaturase 1 and fatty acid synthase,and enhancing adenosine 5’-monophosphate-activated protein kinase signaling in both in vivo and in vitro experiments,indicating potential mechanisms for HQS’s activity against diabetes.Conclusion:HQS is effective for reversing metabolic disorder and has the potential to be used as therapy for metabolic syndrome.
