Pioneering a New Realm of Human Rights Civilization in the Chinese Path to Modernization——An Overview of the Symposium on“The Chinese Path to Modernization and the Promotion of Free and Comprehensive Human Development”

On October 14,2023,a symposium themed“The Chinese Path to Modernization and the Promotion of Free and Comprehensive Human Development”was held in Changchun,Jilin Province,China.More than fifty experts,scholars,and researchers from national institutions and universities engaged in discussions and exchanges on human rights on the Chinese path to modernization,including the path,practice,knowledge systems,and civilization forms of human rights.This symposium played a significant role in advancing the construction of the disciplinary system,academic system,and discourse system of human rights in China.

New dimensions of values and practical aspects research in the form of eco-civilization under the guidance of Chinese path to modernization

The Chinese path to modernization has created a new form of human civilization,and the construction of a beautiful China’s eco-civilization is an integral part of it,providing a fundamental principle for promoting the construction of an eco-civilization in the new journey of Chinese path to modernization.The introduction of eco-civilization into the new form of human civilization is an essential requirement for upholding and developing socialism with Chinese characteristics,meeting the developmental needs of the Chinese path to modernization path,and fulfilling the intrinsic demands of achieving high-quality development.eco-civilization is a form of civilization in which humans coordinate their existence with nature,society,each other,and their inner selves.It is also a form of civilization where nature,life,humans,and society coexist and mutually thrive.The pursuit of a low-carbon existence requires breaking away from the goal of material happiness and re-establishing the goal of ecological well-being.Restoring the Earth’s carrying capacity,social self-purification,promoting climate habitatization constitute the fundamental tasks in constructing a society of eco-civilization.This article aims to explore the path of habitatized ecological environment,creating a society of eco-civilization,with three macro indicators in its practice:the habitatization of the natural ecological environment,the habitatization of the social ecological environment,and the coordination of these two in climate habitatization.

Molecular mechanism and research progress of traditional Chinese medicine in the treatment of prostate cancer

Prostate cancer(PCa)is one of the most common malignant tumors in the male genitourinary system,ranking second in incidence worldwide.Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM),as an important component of complementary and alternative medicine,shows unique advantages in cancer treatment.Chinese herbal medicine is usually composed of multiple ingredients and involves multiple signaling pathways,which showed function of inducing apoptosis of cancer cells,arresting the cell cycle,inhibiting invasion and metastasis,reducing drug resistance,and regulating immune function.Physical therapy is also an important treatment of TCM.Currently,Physical therapy such as acupuncture or Tai Chi and Qigong are gaining increased recognition in the management of PCa,particularly in addressing issues like urinary incontinence and bone metastasis-related pain.This article reviews the TCM treatment and therapy of PCa,in order to provide new research avenues and treatment options for the treatment of PCa with TCM and improve the quality of life of patients.

探讨Chinese way术式在关节镜下治疗巨大肩袖损伤的应用价值

目的探讨Chinese way术式在关节镜下治疗巨大肩袖损伤的应用价值,为临床治疗提供参考。方法选取2022年3月至2024年3月于扬州市江都中医院接受治疗的70例巨大肩袖损伤患者的临床资料,进行回顾性分析。根据治疗方式不同分为双排锚钉缝线桥组和Chinese way组,每组35例。双排锚钉缝线桥组患者采用关节镜下双排锚钉缝线桥固定术治疗,Chinese way组患者采用关节镜下Chinese way术式治疗。比较两组患者肩关节活动度、并发症发生情况、Fugl-Meyer评定量表(FMA-UE)评分。结果术后3个月,两组患者前屈、后伸、内旋、外旋的肩关节活动度均增加,且Chinese way组均大于双排锚钉缝线桥组(均P<0.05)。Chinese way组患者并发症总发生率低于双排锚钉缝线桥组(均P<0.05)。术后3个月,两组患者运动功能、感觉功能、平衡功能、关节活动度、疼痛的各项FMA-UE评分均升高,且Chinese way组均高于双排锚钉缝线桥组(均P<0.05)。结论Chinese way术式在关节镜下治疗巨大肩袖损伤的效果较好,可有效提升患者肩关节活动度和上肢运动功能,且安全性较高,值得临床应用。

Advances in Research of Preparation and Application of Pure Functional Yaoqu by Adding Traditional Chinese Medicine

This paper introduces the origin and research status of traditional Yaoqu(Chinese medicinal koji)in China,and advances in the research of preparation and development of pure functional Yaoqu.The study results showed that the quality of the products was significantly improved when pure Yaoqu was used as saccharifying agent in the brewing of sake,soy sauce and other products.Based on the high saccharification performance and special functional components,Yaoqu can be applied to the development of fermented food.

Cohort study on the treatment of BRAF V600E mutant metastatic colorectal cancer with integrated Chinese and western medicine

BACKGROUND Patients with BRAF V600E mutant metastatic colorectal cancer(mCRC)have a low incidence rate,poor biological activity,suboptimal response to conventional treatments,and a poor prognosis.In the previous cohort study on mCRC conducted by our team,it was observed that integrated Chinese and Western medicine treatment could significantly prolong the overall survival(OS)of patients with colorectal cancer.Therefore,we further explored the survival benefits in the population with BRAF V600E mutant mCRC.AIM To evaluate the efficacy of integrated Chinese and Western medicine in the treatment of BRAF V600E mutant metastatic colorectal cancer.METHODS A cohort study was conducted on patients with BRAF V600E mutant metastatic colorectal cancer admitted to Xiyuan Hospital of China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences and Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region from January 2016 to December 2022.The patients were divided into two cohorts.RESULTS A total of 34 cases were included,with 23 in Chinese-Western medicine cohort(cohort A)and 11 in Western medicine cohort(cohort B).The median overall survival was 19.9 months in cohort A and 14.2 months in cohort B,with a statistically significant difference(P=0.038,hazard ratio=0.46).The 1-3-year survival rates were 95.65%(22/23),39.13%(9/23),and 26.09%(6/23)in cohort A,and 63.64%(7/11),18.18%(2/11),and 9.09%(1/11)in cohort B,respectively.Subgroup analysis showed statistically significant differences in median OS between the two cohorts in the right colon,liver metastasis,chemotherapy,and first-line treatment subgroups(P<0.05).CONCLUSION Integrated Chinese and Western medicine can prolong the survival and reduce the risk of death in patients with BRAF V600E mutant metastatic colorectal cancer,with more pronounced benefits observed in patients with right colon involvement,liver metastasis,combined chemotherapy,and first-line treatment.

Harnessing multi-omics approaches to elucidate the role of Chinese herbal compounds in chemotherapy-induced gastrointestinal damage

In this editorial,we discuss the findings reported by Wang et al in the latest issue of the World Journal of Gastrointestinal Oncology.Various research methodologies,including microbiome analysis,assert that the Tzu-Chi Cancer-Antagonizing and Life-Protecting II Decoction of Chinese herbal compounds mitigates inflammatory responses by inhibiting the NF-κB signaling pathway.This action helps maintain the dynamic equilibrium of the intestinal microecology and lessens chemotherapy-induced gastrointestinal damage.The efficacy of these compounds is intimately linked to the composition of intestinal microbes.These compounds regulate intestinal microecology by virtue of their specific compatibility and effectiveness,thereby enhancing the overall therapeutic outcomes of cancer chemotherapy.Nonetheless,the exact mechanisms underlying these effects warrant further investigation.Multi-omics technologies offer a systematic approach to elucidate the mechanisms and effectiveness of Chinese herbal compounds in vivo.This manuscript reviews the application of multi-omics technologies to Chinese herbal compounds and explores their potential role in modulating the gastrointestinal microenvironment following cancer chemotherapy,thus providing a theoretical foundation for their continued use in adjunct cancer treatment.

Mitigating ethyl carbamate production in Chinese rice wine:Role of raspberry extract

This study investigated the use of raspberry extract(RBE) for mitigating ethyl carbamate(EC) accumulation in Chinese rice wine(Huangjiu), a traditional fermented beverage. It focused on the addition of RBE to the fermentation mash and its effects on EC levels. The results showed a significant reduction in EC production that could be attributed to RBE's role in altering urea and citrulline catabolism and inhibiting arginine metabolism, thus preventing EC precursors from reacting with ethanol. Additionally, RBE enhanced the rice wine's flavor profile, as shown by volatile component and amino acid analysis. This study also explored RBE's impact on the metabolism of arginine by Saccharomyces cerevisiae in a simulated fermentation environment, and found increased arginine, reduced urea and citrulline levels, altered enzyme activities, and gene expression changes in the arginine metabolism and transport pathways. In conclusion, the results clearly demonstrated RBE's efficacy in reducing the EC content in Chinese rice wine, offering valuable insights for EC reduction strategies.

文明1(civilized)、文明2(civilization)、文明3(civitas)——论“文明”一词的三种不同含义

学术界对于“什么是文明”存有争议的原因,是把文明(civilized)、文明社会(civilization)和国家(civitas)三个不同的概念混为一谈造成的。“文明1”大致相当于英语civilized(文明的)。文化是人群的生活方式,但是不仅彬彬有礼、琴棋书画、轻歌曼舞、美味佳肴是文化,愚昧粗鲁、恶俗陋习、野风蛮舞、吃糠咽菜也是生活方式,所以文明1不完全等同于文化,而只有被认可与受推崇的文化才被称为文明。无论古今中外,作为文化的文明1都是褒义的,文明1即“文明”的本义,也是对文化的价值判断。“文明2”相当于英语civilization(文明社会),摩尔根用以指称继蒙昧社会与野蛮社会之后出现的、高于蒙昧与野蛮状态的社会阶段。作为社会形态的文明2当然比蒙昧与野蛮社会要进步,但是文明社会并非一切都是文明的,其中充斥着种种不文明的蒙昧与野蛮,所以不能说文明2就是“文明的”社会。“文明3”相当于英语civitas(国家),是中国学者根据恩格斯的“国家是文明社会的概括”得出的概念,系指继部落联盟或酋邦之后出现的社会组织形态。因为不同国家的国体与政体各不相同,有了国家之后并非一切都变得比野蛮社会更文明了,所以作为国家的文明3也不都是“文明的”国家。

How does ecological civilization construction affect carbon emission intensity?Evidence from Chinese provinces’panel data

Ecological civilization construction is a new concept and trend in the era of China's high-quality development.It requires the collaborative propulsion of an ecological economic civilization,ecological social civilization,and ecological environment civilization.Reducing carbon emission intensity is an important issue facing the Chinese government in the backdrop of global warming.Thus,studying the influence of ecological civilization construction on carbon emission intensity from different perspectives has important theoretical and practical significance.In this study,the influences of the three subsystems of an ecological civilization on carbon emission intensity are empirically analyzed using Chinese provincial panel data from 2004 to 2016 and a spatial Durbin model based on the STIRPAT model.First,the Moran's I of carbon emission intensity in Chinese provinces was between 0.425 and 0.473.This indicates positive spatial correlation and illustrates that the carbon emission intensity of China's provinces can influence each other.The reasons behind this correlation include close ties between neighboring provinces and similarities in natural,economic,and social characteristics.Second,the correlation coefficients of ecological economic civilization,ecological social civilization,and ecological environment civilization to carbon emission intensity are−4.743139,2.865884,and−0.3246447,respectively.This illustrates that an ecological economic civilization and ecological environment civilization can reduce carbon emission intensity,while an ecological social civilization can increase it.To reduce total carbon emission intensity,the three subsystems of ecological civilization should have a negative relationship with carbon emission intensity,so the effect of ecological social civilization on carbon emission intensity should be changed.Third,the spatial spillover effect of ecological social civilization did not pass the significance test.The correlation coefficients of spatial spillover effect to ecological economic civilization and ecological environment civilization are 2.046531 and−3.238323,respectively.Improving the ecological economic civilization can increase the carbon emission intensity of periphery provinces,while improving the ecological environment civilization can reduce it.Thus,it is necessary to enhance cooperation between periphery provinces and establish a trans-provincial cooperation mechanism for reducing carbon emissions.

Ye Shu-xian＇s proposal of ＂Road of Jade＂ brings forward a new way to study the origin of civilization. Jade replaced bronze as one of the major criterions of the birth of civilizations. Ye explains jade as a mystical witchcraft which has a sacred power for the ancient people. Because the jade is produced in the water, and has the similar color with the sky, both of which have significance for the origin of life, jade is thus considered to be the origin of power. The notion of jade-god gave birth to the civilization in ancient China and triggered competition among the settlements, which in turn, advanced the development of civilization.

On Chinese Civilization Being the Only Continued Civilization in the Viewpoint of the Modern National History Construction

Chinese civilization is the only ancient civilization thriving to this day seems to be a common view in the historical academia and Chinese society as well. The main path of Chinese myths and legends lies in the jade mythology and resulting jade belief. When viewing the origin of jade from a perspective of mythology, we find each major jade (e.g., jade ring, jade arc) form is covertly driven by a mythological concept. The investigation of the era and regional distribution of unearthed jade wares may outline the spreading path map of the jade mythology and belief.
