This paper intends to fill this vacuum. It seeks to rediscover Epstein's communist experience, with particular focus on his fervent activism in and unapologetic defense of the Cultural Revolution. Through analyzing his experience, this paper exposes the essential allurement of Chinese communism encapsulated in the ideals of revolutionary regeneration and revolutionary virtues. Beyond Epstein's communist experience, this paper calls for a deeper and broader pondering on the analogy between communism and religion. Such an illuminating analogy should inspire more intellectual efforts than critical expositions of formalistic vainglory or personality cult.展开更多

While the hard-line conservatives viewed that the way to reform China was in upholding Confucianism as unifying factor, Ch'en viewed Confucianism as a formless philosophy that kept China back from the process of modernization.展开更多

With a strong leadership in China, it has grown to become the newest and emerging super economic power bloc of the twenty-first century. Government adoption of philosophies such as the Mandate of Heaven, putting the people first, rule by virtue and deep economic reforms has not only bolstered it's authority to rule but has fortified the ruling party position as the only legitimate ruler of the greatest populated country in the world. This article develops a perception that stability of any society can only be achieved when it is deeply rooted in the philosophical ideology of that society and pursuing the core interests of the people. This work sets out to explain and examine the nature of the Chinese Communist Party dynamics in ensuring political stability in China over the decades of its inception into the political stream of the nation state.展开更多

This paper offers an overview of the historical development of CET, and generalizes its managing system, training system, targeted cadres, training contents and institutionalization. The functions of CET are classified as formal including political (re-) engineering and capacity and knowledge building, and informal including collective identity and social connections. The Shanghai Municipal Committee Party School is further studied regarding its educational programs, especially the planned programs, contents of training, trainers, financing, and quality assurance. It is argued that in response to challenges in an era of globalization, CET has worked both to consolidate the political authority of the CCP and enhance governmental officials' awareness and knowledge of governing issues and their problem-solving capacities. As a result CET itself has been undergoing continuous adjustments.展开更多
