An improved association-mining research for exploring Chinese herbal property theory: based on data of the Shennong's Classic of Materia Medica

Knowledge Discovery in Databases is gaining attention and raising new hopes for traditional Chinese medicine （TCM） researchers. It is a useful tool in understanding and deciphering TCM theories. Aiming for a better understanding of Chinese herbal property theory （CHPT）, this paper performed an improved association rule learning to analyze semistructured text in the book entitled Shennong＇s Classic of Materia Medica. The text was firstly annotated and transformed to well-structured multidimensional data. Subsequently, an Apriori algorithm was employed for producing association rules after the sensitivity analysis of parameters. From the confirmed 120 resulting rules that described the intrinsic relationships between herbal property （qi, flavor and their combinations） and herbal efficacy, two novel fundamental principles underlying CHPT were acquired and further elucidated： （1） the many-to-one mapping of herbal efficacy to herbal property; （2） the nonrandom overlap between the related efficacy of qi and flavor. This work provided an innovative knowledge about CHPT, which would be helpful for its modern research.

Application of the preventive treatment theory of traditional Chinese medicine in the prevention and treatment of chronic venous insufficiency of lower extremity

Chronic venous insufficiency is characterized by high incidence,difficult treatment and high recurrence rate.Traditional Chinese Medicine Preventive Treatment Theory is one of the important core contents in the theory of TCM.By using the theory of Traditional Chinese Medicine Preventive Treatment,using the theory of“prevention before illness,prevention the disease continues to change and prevention repeated when the disease has been cured”,can reduce the incidence rate effectively,improve the effect of clinical treatment,it is also to enrich and develop the theory of Traditional Chinese Medicine Preventive Treatment.

Gender Relations in Kjell Askildsen’s A Lovely Place From the Perspective of Chinese Yin-Yang Theory

A Lovely Place(2019)is a collection of the Norwegian writer Kjell Askildsen’s short stories that is translated from German into Chinese by Yang Zhizi.It contains 18 short stories,whose male characters are mainly analyzed by researchers.The paper argues that female characters are playing an indispensable role in compensating the males’life stories and enlightening their worldviews according to Chinese Yin-Yang theory.The females can be classified into the following three groups in terms of their important relations to the males.Firstly,the female is the male’s companion in a certain part of the latter’s life.Secondly,the female facilitates the male’s intellectual growth either spontaneously or purposefully.Thirdly,the female struggles for independence to set an example for the male.The female characters in A Lovely Place present such femininity as beauty,energy,nostalgia,sentimentality,motherhood,etc.,stimulate the males to reflect on their own identities and fulfill their muscularity,and function as the genuine protagonists in the collection as far as the gender relations are concerned.

Vigorously Boosting the Development of Chinese Human Rights Theory and Practice

We feel a great honor and heavy responsibil- ity upon the Human Rights Research Center at Shandong University being named one of China＇s national human rights education and training bases. In our view, national human rights education and training bases should keep up with the times, bring into full play their ad- vantages of uniqueness and openness, complement each other, make con- certed efforts to achieve innovation and vigorously boost the development of Chinese human rights theory and practice. The university center will continue to bring into play its tradi- tional strength in theoretical research and graduate education and work hard to fulfill all the tasks of the center. Similarities and Differences of Chinese Translation Theories And Western Translation Theories

Translation theories are based on the different languages and cultures.The difference is not clearly defined,so there is a place of mutual integration that can be used interchangeably.Theyall regard author’s meaning and style as a core to translate a good product.Comparatively,Chinese theories focus on expressing the general meaning of the author,but Western theory emphasizes equivalence of details on translation and response of reader.In the translation practice,according to different theoretical texts and different stages of the translation process,the Chinese and Western translation theories are combined to apply them for making up for each other's deficiencies,which can help our translators to solve the problems in the process of translation improve the construction of Chinese theories.

China’s Minnowbrook Conference: The Review of “Chinese Theories, Chinese Stories and Chinese Solutions” Initiated by China Case Study Journal Alliance

On March 24th,2021,with the initiative of the Chinese government and the promotion of well-known scholars in public administration,the(qualitative)case study seminar of Tsinghua University initiated the case study movement.The Case Study Seminar of Young Scholars was also held on November 16th 2021,and the Case Study Seminar of the Case Center of the Ministry of Education was held on November 17th 2021.If the three Minnowbrook Conferences of the United States were of epoch-making significance to the transformation of the paradigm of public administration theories and practices,then the three conferences also have the epoch-making significance of the paradigm transformation of case studies of public administration in China.Under the background of great changes in the global power contrast and profound reform in China,this review paper tries to use the interpretation and interpretation of critical discourse,especially to explain the Chinese theories which are in-depth,refined and transformed by the case study method of Chinese stories,and the Chinese solutions plausible for Chinese theories.In view of the diversity and complexity of Chinese theories and Chinese solutions,this paper mainly focuses on the realization of Chinese theoretical construction and the formulation of Chinese solutions through the discourse interpretation of Chinese case propositions.

New Solution and Application of the Theory of "Acting According to Time"

From the perspective of theoretical analysis,based on the annotation of ancient doctors on the theory of"acting according to time,"this article puts forward the view of "time";that is,the impact of the social environment on the occurrence and development of diseases.In addition,it points out that the characteristics of modem diseases are of"multiple heat syndromes and multiple repletion pattern."Based on this characteristic,the use of heat-clearing drugs in the clinical stage would have a good eflect.It has been suggested that contemporary doctors should not only inherit the theories from predecessors,but also think diligently and innovate bravely along with the current environment in order to ensure that the theories ofTCM are constantly full of vitality to better serve the clinical aspect.

The New Findings Made in Speech Act Theory

Through carefully studying the theory of speech acts and the literature concerning it,the author made some new findings which reflects in three aspects:the similarities and differences in Chinese and English in expressing the same speech act,the relations between different types of speech acts and the correspondence between sentence sets and sets of speech acts.

Discovery of the relationship between bitter taste and bitter flavor (efficacy) based on hTAS2Rs

Objective:To explore the relationship between bitter taste and bitter flavor(efficacy),their character-istics were analyzed at the target and pharmacodynamic points.Methods:Compounds with bitter receptor activity were obtained by high-throughput screening models of the human bitter taste receptors(hTAS2Rs),which were used to analyze bitter taste.The efficacy of anti-asthma medications was used as an example to research bitter flavor(efficacy).The pharmacological effects of bitter taste and bitter flavor(efficacy)were classified according to the functional modules.The coverage for the same targets or pharmacological effects in the overall protein interaction network(PIN)of bitter taste and bitter flavor(efficacy)was analyzed to reveal their relationship.The effect of the compound polydatin with anti-asthma activation on hTAS2R14 was studied to verify the reliability of the aforementioned idea.Results:A total of 121 Chinese materia medica(CMM)compounds that activate hTAS2R10,hTAS2R14,and hTAS2R49 were obtained.The analysis results indicated that 108 same targets for bitter taste and bitter flavor(efficacy)were obtained,accounting for 13.9%in the PIN of bitter taste and 72.5%in the PIN of bitter flavor(efficacy).The pharmacological effects shared by bitter taste and bitter flavor(efficacy)accounted for 79%of the PIN of bitter taste and 81%of the PIN of bitter flavor(efficacy).The activating effect of the anti-asthma compound polydatin on hTAS2R14 was dose-dependent with EC 50 of 4.3 m M.Conclusion:In this study,the relationship between bitter taste and bitter flavor(efficacy)has been demonstrated from the target and pharmacodynamic points,which are based on hTAS2Rs and anti-asthma effect.Bitter taste and bitter flavor(efficacy)exhibited a high correlation.This study provides a theoretical and scientific basis for the hypothesis that“the property theory of CMM is the clinical pharmacodynamics of CMM.”

Individualized medicine,health medicine,and constitutional theory in Chinese medicine

The patterns of modern science and changes in the medical model can result in the transformation of the current state of individualized and health medicines into being the primary trend in medical development.Chinese and Western medical systems are dissimilar in terms of value orientations,thinking style,and research directions because of their different historical and cultural backgrounds.Individualized treatment in modern medicine is mainly established based on individual genome information and the differences in mononucleotide polymorphisms.However,such treatment method is expensive,creates an uncertain genetic marker,and leads to different result interpretations,among other problems.The Chinese constitutional theory developed in the 1970s expresses the principle behind Chinese health medicine and individual treatment and provides the corresponding methods.The Chinese constitutional theory divides the constitution of the Chinese population into nine categories based on established classification criteria.It promotes the study of the relationship of each constitution to diseases and Chinese medicine preparation toward adjusting the constitution and preventing diseases.The theory also provides methods and tools for individualized treatment.Constitution identification shows the direction and provides the core technology for the evaluation of the health status.By combining the developments in modern biotechnology,new diagnostic techniques and treatment models of constitution-differentiation,disease-differentiation,and syndrome-differentiation can be established for the development of individualized Chinese medicine treatment and health medicine for the international medical community.

Discussion on the Theoretical Basis of Banxia Xiexin Decoction in the Treatment of Insulin Resistance Obesity

Through reading Chinese ancient book Huangdi Nejing,and summarizing and analyzing related literature,the basic pathogenesis of obesity have been found to be the stomach preponderance and spleen weakness,and the imbalance of ascending and descending.Banxia Xiexin Decoction not only has the functions of relieving heat to inhibit stomach intake,supplementing deficiency to assist spleen transport,regulate the ascending and descending,but also has the effects of improving insulin resistance and regulating glucolipid metabolism.Therefore,it is suggested that Banxia Xiexin Decoction can be used in the treatment of insulin resistant obesity,which provides ideas and methods for its treatment.

The Dissemination, Influence, and Reception of the Modern Western Translation Theories in China

Modern Western translation theories have exerted a great influence upon the Chinese translation fields. The author of the present paper believes that science has no boundaries and nationality. It is advisable and necessary to learn and absorb what we do not know and then make the best use of the knowledge. The author tries to analyze what the western translation theories have brought to us, the advantages and disadvantage of them, and finally put forward the possible attitude we may take to the western translation theories.

The Gist of the Marxist view on Human Rights

Marx and engels’ great ideology contains rich thought on human rights. Based on the class structure and social development in their lifetimes, the two founders of Marxism profoundly revealed the essence of human rights. They revealed the historical process, class essence and hypocrisy of the bourgeois human rights, and expounded the important principle that human rights are always subject to economic and social development. The Marxist of human rights theory emphasizes that even in a capitalist society, the proletariat should not abandon its efforts to strive for human rights, and that the proletariat should use human rights well to improve their survival and development conditions as well as the advancement of the society as a whole. In the localization process of Marxism in China, the Marxist view on human rights has been further developed and innovated in China, and the socialist human rights theory with Chinese characteristics has been formed, which is used to guide the development of China’s human rights cause.

Application of Metabolomics Technology in the Research of Chinese Medicine

In recent years, a novel analytical technology, metabolomics is widely used in the modernresearch of Chinese medicine （CM）. Metabolomics adopts a ＂top-down＂ strategy to reflect the function oforganisms from terminal symptoms of metabolic network and understand metabolic changes of a completesystem caused by interventions. As a holistic approach, metabolomics technology, including nuclear magneticresonance, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry, favorableto express the meaning of basic theories of CM, CM syndrome and Chinese herb. Therefore, we believe thatmetabolomics technology will greatly benefit to development for the research of CM in the light of modernsciences.

Tonic Herbs and Herbal Mixtures in Chinese Medicine

This review results from a Pub Med-based data-mining of scientific literature concerning typical tonic herbs and formulas of Chinese herbal medicine and their application principle under the theory of CM. We have focused on two aspects of tonic activity: body tonification against qi气-, blood血-, yin阴-and yang阳-deficiency, respectively, and organ(Zang 脏and Fu腑) tonification against heart-, liver-, spleen/stomach-,lung-, and kidney-deficiency, respectively.Body-tonifying herbs are: Astragalus Membranaceus Radix(Huang-qi黄芪) and Panax Ginseng Radix(Ren-shen人参) for qi-tonification;Angelicae Sinensis Radix(Dang-gui当归) and Rehmannia Glutinosa Radix Preparata(Shu-di熟地) for blood-tonification; Ophiopogon Japonicus Radix(Mai-dong麦冬) and Scrophularia Ningpoensis Radix(Xuan-shen玄参) for yin-deficiency; Myristica Fragrans Semen(Roudou-kou肉豆蔻) and Psoralea Corylifolia Fructus(Bu-gu-zhi补骨脂) for yang-deficiency. The corresponding CM formulas are: Bu-zhong-yi-qi decoction(补中益气汤) for qi-tonification; Si-wu decoction(四物汤) for blood-tonification; Zeng-ye decoction(增液汤) for yin-tonification;Si-shen pill(四神丸) for yang-tonification.Organ-tonifying herbs are: Glycyrrhizae Uralensis Radix Preparata(Zhi-gan-cao炙甘草) and Rehmannia Glutinosa Radix(Di-huang地黄) for heart-tonification; Lycium Barbarum Fructus(Gou-qi-zi枸杞子) and Angelicae Sinensis Radix(Dang-gui当归) for liver-tonification; Panax Ginseng Radix(Ren-shen人参) and Atractylodis Macrocephala Rhizoma(Bai-zhu白术) for spleen/stomach-tonification; Panax Ginseng Radix(Ren-shen人参) and Astragalus Membranaceus Radix(Huang-qi黄芪) for lung-tonification; Cornus Officinalis Fructus(Shan-zhu-yu山茱萸)and Dioscorea Opposite Rhizoma(Shan-yao山药) for kidney-tonification. The corresponding CM formulas are: Zhi-gan-cao decoction(炙甘草汤) for heart-tonification; Yi-guan decoction(一贯煎) for liver-tonification; Shen-ling-bai-zhu powder(参苓白术散) for spleen/stomachtonification; Bu-fei decoction(补肺汤) for lung-tonification; Liu-wei-di-huang pill(六味地黄丸) for kidney tonification.These herbs and formulas were described regarding their efficacy, reasonable use and unreasonable abuse specific to different patients with different symptoms. The scientific investigation on efficacy and safety of Chinese formulas will propel the acceptance and spread of TCM in the western world for the sake of patients worldwide.

Predicting Tie Strength of Chinese Guanxi by Using Big Data of Social Networks

This paper poses a question:How many types of social relations can be categorized in the Chinese context?In social networks,the calculation of tie strength can better represent the degree of intimacy of the relationship between nodes,rather than just indicating whether the link exists or not.Previou research suggests that Granovetter measures tie strength so as to distinguish strong ties from weak ties,and the Dunbar circle theory may offer a plausible approach to calculating 5 types of relations according to interaction frequency via unsupervised learning(e.g.,clustering interactive data between users in Facebook and Twitter).In this paper,we differentiate the layers of an ego-centered network by measuring the different dimensions of user's online interaction data based on the Dunbar circle theory.To label the types of Chinese guanxi,we conduct a survey to collect the ground truth from the real world and link this survey data to big data collected from a widely used social network platform in China.After repeating the Dunbar experiments,we modify our computing methods and indicators computed from big data in order to have a model best fit for the ground truth.At the same time,a comprehensive set of effective predictors are selected to have a dialogue with existing theories of tie strength.Eventually,by combining Guanxi theory with Dunbar circle studies,four types of guanxi are found to represent a four-layer model of a Chinese ego-centered network.

Synchronous Dynamic Research on Respiratory and Intestinal Microflora of Chronic Bronchitis Rat Model

Objective： To investigate the mechanism of the Chinese medicine theory that Fei（Lung） and Dachang（Large Intestine） are exteriorly and interiorly related via synchronous observation on the dynamic changes of the respiratory and intestinal microflora. Methods： Forty specific pathogen free Sprague-Dawley rats were selected and randomly divided into blank（10 rats） and chronic bronchitis model groups（30 rats）. The blank group rats were put into the smoke-free environment and the model group rats were put into the smoke environment in order to establish pulmonary disease（chronic bronchitis） model. Then the corresponding changes of the respiratory and intestinal microflora of the model on 20th, 50th and 70th days were synchronously observed. Results： The respiratory tract microflora showed an increase in the total aerobic and Staphylococcus aureus and reduced anaerobic amount significantly on 20th day in the respiratory tract microflora（P〈0.05 or 0.01）. On 50th day, total aerobic, total anaerobic amount and bifidobacterium significantly increased（P〈0.05）. On 70th day, Staphylococcus aureus reduced and lactobacillus increased significantly（P〈0.01）. The intestinal microflora showed an increase in the total aerobic, Clostridium perfringens, enterobacter and enterococcus significantly increased on 20th day（P〈0.05 or 0.01）. Staphylococcus aureus on 50th day increased significantly（P〈0.05）. Total aerobic and enterococcus increased, total anaerobic and Clostridium perfringens reduced significantly on 70th day（P〈0.05 or 0.01）. Conclusions： The microecosystem of respiratory tract and intestine of rat model during the pathological process showed a dynamic disorder, indicating an interaction between the lung and large intestine which may be one of the connotations as they exteriorly and interiorly related.

Comparative Perspectives on Solutions for the Problem of Other Minds

This paper aims to establish a dialogue between contemporary research on the problem of other minds and classical Chinese philosophical theories.It first explores the idea,inspired by the recent discovery of the mirror neuron mechanism,that a direct exchange of experience may occur between the observer and the observed.Next,it analyzes the ways in which the ancient Chinese philosopher Zhuangzi and Confucian thinkers reflected on the problem of other minds,which are quite similar to the idea inspired by the latest research on mirror neurons.In these thinkers’views,knowledge of other minds is the result of mental activity and what it provides is,to a large extent,something related not to epistemology but rather to a situational understanding of other minds from the perspective of value theory.The author points out that this solution takes two aspects,humans9 innate nature and human experience,into consideration simultaneously.In terms of humans,innate nature,the body of a human being is a body that represents the unity of man and nature,and it has something in common with the natural world,which lays a foundation for the perception of other minds.In terms of human experience,human beings have such actual needs as emotions,pursuits,and desires,and their behaviors need to conform to certain norms.It is in a body of this kind that the mind of human beings can be formed and enjoy the potential to develop.Effective interpersonal communication can thus be achieved.
