The purpose of this study is to(a)examine graduate students to see whether the syllabus of a research course is more important to male or female students and(b)determine whether graduate students who prefer educationa...The purpose of this study is to(a)examine graduate students to see whether the syllabus of a research course is more important to male or female students and(b)determine whether graduate students who prefer educational work settings rate the usefulness of a research course higher than those who prefer non-educational work settings.Data were collected from a survey that was distributed to the subjects.These subjects included 57 graduate students enrolled in four classes of the same research course and all of them responded.The findings indicated that female graduate students considered the syllabus of this research course more important than the male graduate students did(p<0.5).The study also found that there was not a significant difference(p>0.05)between graduate students who prefer to work in the educational settings and those who prefer non-educational work settings rating the usefulness of a research course.展开更多

Objective:To explore experiences of Chinese nurses who study for Master of Science in Professional Practice(health care)in the United Kingdom.Methods:A qualitative approach was applied,consisting of semi-structured te...Objective:To explore experiences of Chinese nurses who study for Master of Science in Professional Practice(health care)in the United Kingdom.Methods:A qualitative approach was applied,consisting of semi-structured telephone interviews(n=8).The Colaizzi seven-step framework analysis method was used to extract themes.Results:The themes that emerged are as follows:(1)gains from studying overseas,(2)difficulties during studying,and(3)impacts of learning experience on work.The gains for nurses studying overseas include the improvement of scientific research capabilities,reconstruction of critical thinking,and development of reflection ability.Difficulties while studying mainly include language barrier,strict assessment,and boring life.Conclusions:The education of nursing postgraduate attaches impor tance to the cultivation of thinking.Nurses are very interested in nursing research including qualitative and quantitative methods.Nurses encountered language barriers in their study and life even though they knew a cer tain level of English.展开更多
This paper explores ways to enhance overseas Chinese graduate employability by taking Finnish-educated Chinese students/graduates as an example.In so doing,it understands that graduate employability development is a j...This paper explores ways to enhance overseas Chinese graduate employability by taking Finnish-educated Chinese students/graduates as an example.In so doing,it understands that graduate employability development is a joint effort of multiple stakeholders including students,graduates,academics,program coordinators,employers,and policymakers.Accordingly,it provides arguments and suggestions for how to enhance the employability of these graduates in terms of the labor market context,employers’beliefs and actions,the responsibilities of higher education institutions,and student/graduate commitment.It also points out two major challenges faced by overseas Chinese graduates as well as their educational providers,which are linked respectively to gaps between what graduates acquire in higher education and what is required in the labor market,as well as gaps from the employers’perspective:areas where employers need to understand more about universities and catch up with new ideas generated by them.展开更多
