Red revolutionary site is a significant carrier for inheriting and spreading red culture,a witness of revolutionary history and stones, and also the best place to show connotations and value of red culture.Taking the regiment headquarter and the division headquarter of the First Division of the First Army in Xiushui County,Jiangxi Province for example, this paper explored cultural value of red site, analyzed the existing problems, tried to figure out scientific approaches of realizing cultural value of red site,so as to promote the sharing and inheritance of cultural value of red revolutionary site. 展开更多

Background:Karoshi,or death due to overwork, has now become a serious social problem in China.Worsening of cardiovascular risks by stress might initiate karoshi. Many studies have examined the relationship between job stress and obesity, hypertension, and type 2 diabetes mellitus, but less evidence exists for dyslipidemia like hypo-high-density lipoproteinemia (hypo-HDL).The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between job stress and hypo-HDL of Chinese workers in Shanghai. Methods:We studied 2219 Chinese workers in Shanghai, who participated in the Japan-China cooperative study for the prevention of karoshi.A questionnaire was administered to examine the lifestyle characteristics, job category, weekly working hours, and job stress.Job demand and job control were quantified using the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health questionnaire.Modified job strain measure was defined by the combination of low job control and high demand.Hypo-HDL was defined as plasma high-density lipoprotein cholesterol concentration of〈1.04 mmol/L (40 mg/dl).Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed for hypo-HDL as a dependent variable. Results:Modified job strain was not related to hypo-HDL either in men or women. In men, multivariate adjusted odds ratio (OR) for having hypo-HDL was significantly higher in the lowest job control tertile compared with the highest job control tertile (OR =1.39,95% confidence interval [CI] 1.03-1.87,P =0.034).In the same model,a similar trend was observed for women, but it did not reach a statistically significant level (OR =1.51,95% CI,0.88-2.56,P =0.132).Conclusion:A low level of job control but not modified job strain was significantly related to higher prevalence ofhypo-HDL of Chinese workers in Shanghai. 展开更多

A total of 35 104 subjects were enrolled in this study. The age-adjusted prevalence of MS, BMI≥25, diabetes, hypertension, and abnormal lipid was 13.9%, 29.5%, 12.8%, 27.5%, and 47.1%, respectively. The prevalence of BMI≥25, hyperglycemia, and hypertension increased with the age of males and females, and was higher in males than in females (37.1% vs 21.5%, 15.9% vs 12.1%, 35.0% vs 24.3%, 54.3% vs 40.4%). 展开更多

Environmental exposure to heavy metals has been linked to a wide range of human health hazards. We detected the levels of 15 metals in urine samples from 500 representative sub-samples in an ongoing occupational cohort study (Jinchang Cohort) to directly evaluate metal exposure levels. Fifteen metals, namely As, Ba, Be, Cd, Cs, Cr, Co, Cu, Pb, Mn, Ni, Se, TI, U, and Zn, were detected by inductively coupled plasma quadruple mass spectrometry. The results showed that median creatinine adjustment and geometric mean urinary metal levels were higher in the heavy metal-exposed group, except Se and Zn, than other reported general or occupational populations. Further studies should address the effects of heavy metals on human health. 展开更多

Protecting the rights and interests of workers and staff members constitutes an important aspect of China's human rights protection. At the time when the country is dealing with impacts of the global financial crisis, the All-China Federation of Trade Unions has been working fruitfully and effectively to accelerate economic and social development and safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of workers, therefore making contributions to the protection of the rights and interests of Chinese workers. The dose-response relationship for asbestos exposure in a chrysotile product factory was studied. The past gravimetric dust concentration values, obtained from different worksites, were converted into fiber concentration values according to conversion factors that were worked out by simultaneous sampling in this study. The conversions were made so that exposure could be expressed in fiber-years (f-yr). Asbestosis was diagnosed on the basis of chest radiographs and occupational histories. Cumulative dust exposure (f-yr) was calculated up to the date of diagnosis for asbestosis patients, and up to September 1982 for the remaining workers. A dose-response relationship expressed as fiber-years exposed vs cumulative prevalence of asbestosis was established by the life table method on the basis of these data. Predicted 3 and 1% prevalence of asbestosis corresponded to 43 and 22 f-yr exposure, respectively. Considering that a worker can work for 35 years, these doses are commensurate with dust concentrations of 1.22 and 0.63 f/ml, respectively. It is recommended that 1 f/ml be taken as the maximum allowable concentration of airborne asbestos dust for the workplace with an anticipated prevalence of about 2% asbestosis after 35 years of exposure. 1990 Academic Press, Inc. 展开更多

International migrants confront many new challenges from the impact of global populism and geopolitics, but we also see the growth of a new identity culture. The Chinese community in Canada constructs its identity through the collective memory of the image of Chinese railway workers, and realizes the cross-cultural communication of a new identity culture in the course of the interaction of symbolic cultural practices.Since the 1980s,the image of Chinese railway workers has changed from"the indispensable evil"to"pioneers in nation-building"and"a tragic group subjected to injustice."This is a product of the collective memory of the Chinese ethnic group's pursuit of identity in Canada's multicultural reconstruction. The Chinese ethnic group has reshaped an image of Chinese railway workers that has been widely disseminated through cross-cultural means. They have aimed at gaining social acceptance and fundamental recognition of a Chinese-Canadian identity with the help of their"native cultural heritage and historical resources"in Canada. The construction of this identity culture through collective memory has consolidated the foundations of multiculturalism. 展开更多

Presenting an Artificial Dilemma for the Working Class: On the Narrative Strategy of The Road as a =National Epic"

A new trend has emerged in Chinese film over the past two decades in which the story of the working class has been narrated aimed at an authentic representation of the nation's socialist past, against the general demonization of the Maoist era. Still, there are a number of problems existed in this cinematic "new wave." This paper analyzes a recent example of this tide, The Road (Fangxiang zhi lii, 2006), and its implications. A careful examination of the film's narrative strategy reveals that it is oftentimes entrenched in the bourgeois ideology of "human nature," which circumscribes its intended agenda of making a genuine reflection on the past and present of Chinese workers. On the surface, this film offers a positive image of the Maoist period by presenting a vivacious revolutionary work ethic in the female protagonist and her master. However, on a deeper level, the film only gives an impression of pity for this wretched workwoman who has completely wasted her life. Her "human nature" has been distorted by her socialist work ethic that had been inscribed with imprints of Maoism. In the mean time, the movie's repetition of political clich6s against revolutionary discourse, and an artificial binarity between socialism and commercial culture, bring out the real effect that rather than departing from stereotypes, it in effect merely perpetuates the popular narrative that has come to stigmatize the Maoist era. By this strategy, the film also evades the responsibility of accounting for the real reason for the gigantic social-political transformation. 展开更多
