BACKGROUND Childhood asthma is a common respiratory ailment that significantly affects preschool children.Effective asthma management in this population is particularly challenging due to limited communication skills ...BACKGROUND Childhood asthma is a common respiratory ailment that significantly affects preschool children.Effective asthma management in this population is particularly challenging due to limited communication skills in children and the necessity for consistent involvement of a caregiver.With the rise of digital healthcare and the need for innovative interventions,Internet-based models can potentially offer relatively more efficient and patient-tailored care,especially in children.AIM To explore the impact of an intelligent Internet care model based on the child respiratory and asthma control test(TRACK)on asthma management in preschool children.METHODS The study group comprised preschoolers,aged 5 years or younger,that visited the hospital's pediatric outpatient and emergency departments between January 2021 and January 2022.Total of 200 children were evenly and randomly divided into the observation and control groups.The control group received standard treatment in accordance with the 2016 Guidelines for Pediatric Bronchial Asthma and the Global Initiative on Asthma.In addition to above treatment,the observation group was introduced to an intelligent internet nursing model,emphasizing the TRACK scale.Key measures monitored over a six-month period included the frequency of asthma attack,emergency visits,pulmonary function parameters(FEV1,FEV1/FVC,and PEF),monthly TRACK scores,and the SF-12 quality of life assessment.Post-intervention asthma control rates were assessed at six-month follow-up.RESULTS The observation group had fewer asthma attacks and emergency room visits than the control group(P<0.05).After six months of treatment,the children in both groups had higher FEV1,FEV1/FVC,and PEF(P<0.05).Statistically significant differences were observed between the two groups(P<0.05).For six months,children in the observation group had a higher monthly TRACK score than those in the control group(P<0.05).The PCS and MCSSF-12 quality of life scores were relatively higher than those before the nursing period(P<0.05).Furthermore,the groups showed statistically significant differences(P<0.05).The asthma control rate was higher in the observation group than in the control group(P<0.05).CONCLUSION TRACK based Intelligent Internet nursing model may reduce asthma attacks and emergency visits in asthmatic children,improve lung function,quality of life,and the TRACK score and asthma control rate.The effect of nursing was significant,allowing for development of an asthma management model.展开更多

AIM:To evaluate rational and experiential intelligence in irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) sufferers.METHODS:We recruited 100 subjects with IBS as per Rome criteria(50 consulters and 50 non-consulters) and 100 healthy c...AIM:To evaluate rational and experiential intelligence in irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) sufferers.METHODS:We recruited 100 subjects with IBS as per Rome criteria(50 consulters and 50 non-consulters) and 100 healthy controls,matched by age,sex and educational level.Cases and controls completed a clinical questionnaire(including symptom characteristics and medical consultation)and the following tests:rational-intelligence(Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale,3rd edition);experiential intelligence(Constructive Thinking Inventory);personality(NEO personality inventory); psychopathology(MMPI-2),anxiety(state-trait anxiety inventory)and life events(social readjustment rating scale).Analysis of variance was used to compare the test results of IBS-sufferers and controls,and a logistic regression model was then constructed and adjusted for age,sex and educational level to evaluate any possible association with IBS.RESULTS: No differences were found between IBS cases and controls in terms of IQ (102.0 ±10.8 vs 102.8±12.6), but IBS sufferers scored significantly lower in global constructive thinking (43.7±9.4 vs 49.6±9.7). In the logistic regression model, global constructive thinking score was independently linked to suffering from IBS [OR 0.92 (0.87-0.97)], without significant OR for total IQ.CONCLUSION: IBS subjects do not show lower rational intelligence than controls, but lower experiential intelligence is nevertheless associated with IBS.展开更多
A complex Laboratory Developed Test(LDT)is a clinical test developed within a single laboratory.It is typically configured from many fea-ture constraints from clinical repositories,which are part of the existing Lab-o...A complex Laboratory Developed Test(LDT)is a clinical test developed within a single laboratory.It is typically configured from many fea-ture constraints from clinical repositories,which are part of the existing Lab-oratory Information Management System(LIMS).Although these clinical repositories are automated,support for managing patient information with test results of an LDT is also integrated within the existing LIMS.Still,the support to configure LDTs design needs to be made available even in standard LIMS packages.The manual configuration of LDTs is a complex process and can generate configuration inconsistencies because many constraints between features can remain unsatisfied.It is a risky process and can lead patients to undergo unnecessary treatments.We proposed an optimized solution(opt-LDT)based on Genetic Algorithms to automate the configuration and resolve the inconsistencies in LDTs.Opt-LDT encodes LDT configuration as an optimization problem and generates a consistent configuration that satisfies the constraints of the features.We tested and validated opt-LDT for a local secondary care hospital in a real healthcare environment.Our results,averaged over ten runs,show that opt-LDT resolves 90%of inconsistencies while taking between 6 and 6.5 s for each configuration.Moreover,positive feedback based on a subjective questionnaire from clinicians regarding the performance,acceptability,and efficiency of opt-LDT motivates us to present our results for regulatory approval.展开更多
